Chapter 24: We Broke Up

After making a glass of honey water for herself and drinking it, Li Weiyin began to make noodles.
Whenever she ate noodles, she only ate ones that she made with her own hands. The noodles had to be kneaded until they were chewy and the dough had to be left to rise for 40 minutes.
While the dough was rising, she fetched a Chinese perch from the refrigerator and cleaned it thoroughly. She then cut 5-6 diagonal slits on each side and rubbed some sauce into it.
After that, she placed some pork lard in a wok, heated it on high heat until it produced a green smoke, added the Chinese perch, and fried it until both sides were golden. As the aroma spread, she removed it from the oil.
She placed some chopped bean paste in the lard, and as it sizzled in the oil, an alluring fragrance of spice wafted across the air.
The spicy oil was removed from the bean paste and some lean minced meat was added. She then threw in some chopped green onions, ginger and chilli, and finally some sweet rice wine. After everything was stirred through, the scent was already enough to make one salivate.
She scooped out half of the contents, added Shaoxing wine, water sauce, sugar, and salt to the remaining half, and finally added the Chinese perch and simmered it on low heat.
She then boiled 100-150g of noodles, drained it, mixed in some peanut oil, and placed it on a plate.
Over on the stovetop, she turned the heat to high and added the remaining half of the sauce to the Chinese perch. As the sauce reduced, she added some cornstarch to thicken it and drizzled some rice vinegar and the fragrant pork lard oil from earlier. She then scooped it out of the wok and placed it onto the same plate as the noodles.
She only made one dish, but even though the exhaust fans were on, the strong aroma in the house was unforgettable.
Li Weiyin carried her dinner out to the dining room and saw Fang Meixian supporting Li Weixin home after obviously being treated.
Fang Meixian couldn’t help but swallow as she gave up on temptation and looked at Li Weiyin’s plate.
But, Li Weiyin ignored her as she sat down, picked up a noodle with her chopsticks, rolled it in some sauce, and placed it into her mouth.
“Grumble, grumble…”
Fang Meixian was extremely embarrassed by this dissonant sound, so she yelled out, “Auntie Hui, where are you, why haven’t you made food?”
“Mom, you sent Auntie Hui to the hospital to take care of Dad,” Li Weixin reminded quietly.
One was a classy housewife, the other was a wealthy socialite lady; neither Li Weixin nor Fang Meixian had ever done anything for themselves. Even though there was an ample supply of ingredients at home, they could only look at it.
In the end, Li Weixin had no choice but to call a restaurant for takeaway.
By the time their takeaway arrived, Li Weiyin had already finished her meal, washed her dishes, and made another dish of fried rice.
“I’m going to keep Dad company at the hospital tonight.” Li Weiyin left this one sentence and left.
Fang Meixian was too afraid to let Li Jinzong see Li Weixin in her current state. If he got angry and something happened to him, she would have no one to rely on. But, she couldn’t leave Li Weixin alone at home either.
She had only just sent Auntie Hui to watch over Li Jinzong for the night, but Li Weiyin did not have the patience to serve them and she didn’t want to be under the same roof as them. So, she told Auntie Hui to return and handle their three daily meals.
As Li Weiyin arrived at the hospital with a container of food, Li Jinzong just got off the phone, “I know you’ve come to deliver me fried rice. I’ve already received a few calls.”
“Master, Big Miss, I will return first.” Auntie Hui was frightened by the way that Li Weiyin acted in the afternoon so she was too afraid to even look her in the eyes.
“Drive safe,” Li Jinzong reminded.
By this time, Li Weiyin had already taken out the rice and some fish soup.
“I haven’t eaten anything better than Yinyin’s cooking,” Li Jinzong said with satisfaction as he ate.
Li Weiyin smiled, “Dad, I’m going to go see Mrs. Xu tomorrow.”
Li Jinzong froze, “Didn’t you go see Lou Yucheng?”
Li Weiyin felt her heart sting. As she trembled a little, she said indifferently, “Dad, we broke up.”
