Chapter 10 – Coincidentally Bumping into Mother-in-Law
Chu Yi felt guilty, so he decided to make Qin Yiheng breakfast the next day.
He didn’t know what time Qin Yiheng usually wakes up in the morning so an alarm for 6:30 shouldn’t be too late, he set it to vibrate only.
Probably because he had it on his mind, Chu Yi woke up immediately in the morning when the time came and the phone vibrated.
He moved very carefully as he turned off the alarm, lifted the quilt, and put on slippers. Lastly, he glanced at Qin Yiheng who was still sleeping before sneaking into the bathroom. After washing, he quietly exited the bedroom.
Qin Yiheng’s refrigerator had barely any food. It was filled with water, wine, and some long-lasting food. After Chu Yi looked around, he decided he had to go out.
This residential area has its own supermarket. Chu Yi followed the navigation and quickly found it. He was afraid that Qin Yiheng would get up early so he moved fast.
Since Qin Yiheng took him to the breakfast shop last time, Chu Yi thinks there should be no problem if he makes Western food.
He bought bread, ham, eggs, and finally the milk powder he often drank.
Afraid there’s not much time, Chu Yi didn’t shop around much and quickly walked home after leaving the supermarket.
There were hardly any people on the road early in the morning. As Chu Yi walked, he ran into the auntie he just met when buying eggs.
Because the two exchanged a few words when they were picking up eggs, now that they met again, they naturally felt closer.
The auntie smiled at Chu Yi: “Young man, I bumped into you again.”
Chu Yi was friendly: “Yeah.”
The auntie asked: “Are you preparing to make breakfast?”
Chu Yi: “Mn.”
The auntie said: “Oh! There are not many young people who go out so early to buy food and make breakfast these days.”
Chu Yi smiled: “Is that so.”
Chu Yi smiled bitterly, he also usually lazed around in bed after waking up.
The auntie continued to chat: “I see that you’re buying quite a lot, eating by yourself, or are there others?”
Chu Yi: “Two people, there will be some left, but I can store it in the refrigerator and use it next time.”
The auntie nodded: “Not bad.”
Chu Yi asked back: “Are you also making breakfast for your family?”
The auntie laughed: “It’s for my son. I’m planning on making him porridge. He just came back yesterday. I asked his assistant and he said that my son hadn’t eaten well during his business trip.” The auntie sighed, criticizing yet dotting: “He has a bad stomach and is very picky about food, so I came over in the morning to make him some porridge that can nourish his stomach.”
Chu Yi nodded: “So you only came over and don’t live here?”
The aunt shook her head: “I don’t live here, my son moved out by himself after graduation. Hey, you young people are all like this. You don’t want to live with your family, lives outside all alone, making us parents unable to know anything.”
Chu Yi shook his head, smiled, then comforted: “No Auntie, your child must love his home. Living outside is just more convenient.”
The aunt was amused: “You’re right, my home is quite far away, it’s a river away. This place is very close to his company.”
Chu Yi nodded and followed up with, “Your child definitely loves you and his family.”
The auntie is even happier: “Young man, you are too good at talking.” She asked casually: “Which building are you going to, our routes are quite similar.”
Because of the auntie’s pace, Chu Yi also walked a lot slower. After being asked this question, he looked in the direction of his home and realized now that he only knows where to go, but not which building it was.
This community has villas and commercial houses, divided into two different areas, Chu Yi had no choice but to point out the direction.
Chu Yi: “Over there.”
The auntie was a little surprised, and said happily: “I’m also going over there.”
Similar pathing again and again. After chatting for a while, Chu Yi didn’t know what to talk about anymore since the two don’t have anything to do with each other.
After another corner, Chu Yi thought about whether to find an excuse to leave first, but the auntie suddenly asked him, “Do you have a partner?”
Chu Yi wanted to habitually blurt out no, but he immediately stopped himself when the words came to his lips and replied: “Yes.”
The auntie sighed, disappointed: “Here I was thinking of introducing you to my son since we’re quite fated.”
Chu Yi laughed: “Thank you Auntie, that won’t be necessary.”
His home is not far ahead, but what’s absurd is that their route is still the same.
Only then did Chu Yi realize that their coincidence is a little too coincidental.
“My son just came back yesterday.”
“Went on a business trip for a few days.”
Chu Yi tilted his head and suddenly had a bold guess.
It-, It can’t be, right?
That… would be way too coincidental…
This bold guess got verified after the auntie stopped at Qin Yiheng’s door.
“This is my son’s house,” The auntie introduced to Chu Yi: “Feel free to come hang out when you have time.”
After speaking, the auntie waved to Chu Yi, so Chu Yi had no choice but to wave back. He then watched the auntie open the iron gate, walk in, and enter the password for the door.
Chu Yi was stunned at the door, not knowing what to do.
The auntie just said that her son is living outside alone.
She also intended to introduce him to Qin Yiheng.
This means Qin Yiheng didn’t tell his family that they got married.
Chu Yi licked his lips, he felt that it wasn’t a good idea for him to follow inside.
It was already a little past 7 o’clock, Chu Yi waited for the auntie to close the door before taking out his phone. He immediately called Qin Yiheng.
Qin Yiheng hadn’t woken up yet, the phone rang for a long time before he answered it.
With a hoarse voice, Qin Yiheng questioned, “Chu Yi?”
Chu Yi: “Mn, it’s me.”
Most likely because he realized that Chu Yi isn’t beside him and is calling him, Qin Yiheng asked: “Where are you?”
Chu Yi: “At the door.”
Chu Yi did not dawdle, he straightforwardly said: “It’s like this, I bumped into your mom when I went outside to buy breakfast. Right now, your mom is inside the house and I’m at the door. Can I still come in?”
Chu Yi said this in one breath, it was organized and clear, Qin Yiheng would definitely understand it.
Qin Yiheng is indeed Qin Yiheng. He heard the anxiety in Chu Yi’s tone so he did not say anything extra.
Like how did you bump into my mom, like what did you guys talk about, like why are you outside, and those other things that could be easily answered.
He directly said: “Yes.”
What was asked is what got answered.
Chu Yi hung up the phone and walked in. However, because he didn’t identify himself and he even had a conversation with the auntie earlier, Chu Yi walked very carefully.
He quietly opened the door, and quietly walked inside.
The auntie had already gone to the kitchen and there were detailed noises coming from over there. Chu Yi peeked his head to take a look and then quickly retracted it.
A few minutes later, a sound came from the second floor. Qin Yiheng finally came out.
Chu Yi stood in the living room holding the grocery bag, not knowing what to do and what to say, and could only wait for orders.
He watched Qin Yiheng slowly walk down the stairs. He was in a didn’t-naturally-wake-up state, and his steps are a bit heavy.
Chu Yi moved to the stairs. When Qin Yiheng had only three stair steps left, he said quietly: “Your mother is in the kitchen.”
Qin Yiheng was not surprised: “Mn.”
Chu Yi said even quieter, “What should I do?”
Qin Yiheng already reached the ground floor, he looked at Chu Yi with some doubts: “What do you mean what should you do?”
Chu Yi asked, “Your mom didn’t know you were married.”
Qin Yiheng nodded, looking indifferent, and stared down at the bag in Chu Yi’s hand.
Chu Yi followed his gaze down, then lifted the bag: “I bought it at the supermarket in the area. And then I ran into your mother, she said she’s coming over to cook porridge for you.”
Chu Yi was anxious at first, but when he saw that Qin Yiheng wasn’t anxious at all, he also turned not anxious.
Whether it was to hide it from his family, or not to show up, or come up with the same story to say, Qin Yiheng did not give those indications and just stood there for a long time.
He, a half-bystander, shouldn’t have anything to be nervous about.
“She would come over to cook for me occasionally.” Qin Yiheng said and then asked him, “What are you doing waking up so early?”
Chu Yi: “Making breakfast.”
Qin Yiheng was curious: “You have the habit of making breakfast?”
Chu Yi shook his head: “No.”
Qin Yiheng was even more curious: “Then today is?”
Chu Yi smiled: “I wanted to make it for you, ham and egg bread, is it okay?”
Qin Yiheng suddenly paused, he glanced at the bag in Chu Yi’s hands again, and said, “Yes, thank you.”
Chu Yi didn’t take the matter of making breakfast seriously nor did he notice the change in Qin Yiheng’s expression, his heart was tied to the kitchen.
Chu Yi shook his head and put down the things in his hands: “I can’t even if it’s okay, your mother is in the kitchen.”
Qin Yiheng was in a good mood: “Next time, there is always time.”
Chu Yi kept looking at the kitchen: “Okay.”
The first time meeting the other’s parent came so unexpectedly. And first of all, Chu Yi is still not sure what identity he should be using.
So now, all he can do is follow behind Qin Yiheng. Whatever Qin Yiheng does, he will follow.
He watched Qin Yiheng water the flowers, feed the fishes, and open the radio broadcast…
When Qin Yiheng returned to the living room, he heard Qin Yiheng ask, “Have you got it?”
Chu Yi froze for a second: “What?”
Qin Yiheng waved his hand: “I’m often on business trips. The plants at home need to be maintained, and the fishes need to be fed. It’s not much, just these two things.” Qin Yiheng thought for a while, “I’ll give you a list later.”
Chu Yi nodded: “Okay.”
Qin Yiheng continued: “There’s a housecleaner Auntie that comes to clean every Sunday afternoon. If I am not at home on Sundays, she will postpone it for a few days. Now that there’s you, when I’m not at home, you can supervise a bit when you have time.”
Chu Yi: “Sure.”
Suddenly chatting about homely customs with such a natural daily tone, Chu Yi suddenly felt comfortable and instantly felt at home.
Chu Yi remembered: “Today is Sunday.”
Qin Yiheng: “Mn, I’m at home today.”
Chu Yi wondered: “You don’t need to go to the company today?”
Qin Yiheng: “Day off today.”
Chu Yi thought for a while, smiled, and said in an intimate tone: “Then I will be at home today too, I’ll also take a day off.”
Qin Yiheng turned to look at Chu Yi when he heard this, and said: “You don’t need to work?”
Chu Yi: “I can let it chill a bit.”
Qin Yiheng wondered: “Why stay? One person in the house is enough.”
Chu Yi: “…”
Ok.
He misunderstood again.
He once again fell into his own constructed sweet family atmosphere. Since Qin Yiheng is at home, he even thought that Qin Yiheng would be happier and would find him caring if he stayed.
He thought too much.
Excuse him!
While chatting, there was suddenly a voice next to them. Qin Yiheng and Chu Yi turned their heads simultaneously and saw Qin Yiheng’s mother coming from the side.
She was a little surprised when she saw two people in the house. Most likely because the extra person was the young man she had just met outside, she was even more surprised.
“You-, You?” Even if the auntie had doubts, she still kept a polite smile: “Why are you here?”
Chu Yi didn’t know what to respond.
Qin Yiheng helped him.
He stood over and was extremely direct: “Mom, I’m married.”
Chu Yi was shocked and he dared not let out his breath.
As if she had a brain fart, Qin Yiheng’s mother didn’t seem to react at all, she asked: “Married? Who did you marry?”
Qin Yiheng pointed at Chu Yi: “Him.”
