Chapter 28 Acting
After all the planning for the demonic
creatures, Lucian immediately felt much more relaxed.
At last, he has an enormous army at his beck and call.
As for six months later, they had one chance to choose to leave.
But Lucian wasn’t worried about that.
Because he believed that in the next six months, they would be completely inseparable from him.
After achieving his goal, Lucian began to consider retreating back to the Demonic Forest.
This was, after all, Human territory.
Reinforcements from the Holy Empire would
arrive sooner or later.
They would only be sitting ducks if they stayed here.
But before he left, he had to maximize the benefits of this war.
The biggest difference between the demonic creatures in the Demonic Forest and Human soldiers was the difference in strength.
In fact, the soldiers of the Demon Forest were actually stronger than Humans in terms of individual strength.
But when they fought head-on, they were often no match for Human soldiers.
This was mainly because the quality of the
weapons the Humans possess is
incomparable.
Humans had excellent blacksmiths who could
forge sharp, solid weapons for them.
However, the demonic creatures in the
Demonic Forest did not have such luxury.
Their weapons were made of wood, stone, or animal bones.
‘It’s more primitive.’
Its lethality and sturdiness were far inferior
to the steel weapons in Human hands.
So before they left, Lucian led the soldiers to empty the armory in Kaidi City.
In order to prevent the subsequent reinforcements from getting supplies,
Before they left, they moved as much of the
official granary as they could.
Those that could not be moved were
destroyed.
Once that was done, Lucian assembled all the
troops and prepared to evacuate.
But he had one more person to arrange before
the evacuation.
That would be the knight, Anthony Davis.
After all, he was a Human. If he followed him
back to the Demonic Forest, he would be
useless.
It was better to let him stay with the Humans.
He would be much more useful here.
But if he simply left Anthony behind, there would be many hidden dangers.
For example, all the nobles in Kaidi City,
including the city lord, were dead. Why was Anthony, the First Knight, able to survive alone?
‘That’s a problem.’
If he wanted Anthony to continue to gain a foothold with the Humans, he had to play
along.
After careful discussion and research, Lucian had an idea.
So that night, Anthony put on his black robe and quietly left the City Lord’s mansion under
the cover of night.
Two days later, Anthony reappeared.
Now he was on his horse again, with a group
of Human soldiers behind him.
These were the remnants of the Kaidi City
army he had gathered after two days.
Those people quickly fled the night the demon soldiers attacked the city and scattered everywhere.
On the other hand, Anthony used his status as the First Knight to gather these people together again and form a considerable force. At this moment, Anthony had already led the
group of soldiers to the courtyard door of the City Lord’s Mansion.
Their stance suggested that they would attack
at any moment.
“Foolish demons! You have defeated our
defending soldiers in a despicable manner and entered Kaidi City!”
“After entering the city, your despicable acts
of cruelty were fully displayed! You burned, killed, and plundered. You committed all kinds of crimes!”
“Do you think you can cover your crimes with
a few words to fool the people? I’m telling
you, it’s impossible!”
“Today, Anthony Davis, First Knight of Kaidi
City, my soldiers will expel all you demons
from the city of Humans! Prepare to meet your maker!”
Anthony was shouting in front of the city lord’s house.
Under Anthony’s passionate speech, the soldiers looked as if they shared a common
enemy.
The commotion quickly attracted the
attention of the citizens in the city. They
stuck their heads out and watched from afar.
When they saw that it was Anthony’s soldiers
who had come to expel the demonic creatures, their faces revealed excitement. “Oh, that’s Anthony, our First Knight! He’s
finally back. He’s coming to defeat the monsters!”
“Oh, my God! Thank God, Anthony’s alive. He’ll banish all these monsters!”
“Long live Anthony! We would love to embrace you as the new City Lord!”
Although the commoners’ shouts were far
away, they still formed quite a commotion when they worked together. Anthony’s face broke into an almost
imperceptible smile at the shouts of the citizens.
Actually, he had discussed these lines with
Lucian.
Lucian, who was a good speaker, worked out the best lines for him.
And after he read from the script, he did achieve the expected results. Anthony couldn’t help but admire Lucian
again. Then Lucian began to play along with
Anthony according to the script they had discussed earlier.
The demon army rushed out of the courtyard
of the City Lord mansion and fought with the remaining Human soldiers.
These Human soldiers that Anthony had forcefully gathered had developed a natural fear of demons after the siege that night.
Furthermore, after two days and two nights of
continuous attacks, they were indeed a little exhausted.
Therefore, in the face of the energetic Demon Stone, it collapsed at once.
However, in order to shape Anthony’s image,
Lucian had ordered in advance that these demonic creatures must hold back. Therefore, their battle was presented to the
citizens as an evenly matched battle.
After fighting for a while, the demonic creatures quickly fell into a disadvantage. They began to retreat toward the city gates.
Anthony’s side had an imposing aura as they chased after the demonic creatures.
The soldiers chasing after the demons looked
confused.
They did not expect to be able to defeat these powerful creatures.
However, this confusion only lasted for a
moment. Soon, their emotions were pulled back into the intense battle. After an hour of pursuit, the demonic creatures were completely driven out of the
city gate.
And as the four gates were retaken by the Humans.
An earth-shattering cheer went up in the city.
People were crying with joy, shouting Anthony’s name.
Anthony was not idle. He had to make some
political achievements before reinforcements arrived.
For example, making the people worship him
even more.
So he quickly organized the soldiers to start the rescue effort.
And recruit civilian volunteers to start organizing disaster relief efforts. It was after three busy days that the Imperial reinforcements finally arrived.
