Childcare Diaries - Chapter 103
Chapter 103
Siege has had a blank expression on his face lately. Seeing that, Barry was curious about his friend and asked him why though he only nodded as if it was not a big deal.
‘The Count and the Royal Family…’
As he thought so, Siege glanced out of the window and fell into anguish. He didn’t hear the specifics, but the royal must have done something to the County. Although it was a small estate, there were many people living in Keylor’s estate as well. He was obligated to protect them.
‘…If I stand on the Count’s side, I must win.’
That would be the only way to protect the territory, even if he got involved in this battle.
A bird’s nest was built in the tree outside the window. It caught his eye as the mother bird flew and fed the young birds.
‘The reason I have a sword…’
At first, it was a kind of escape, but it was something he kept thinking about as he raised his sword. He did not intend to become a knight for the sake of loyalty to the Royal Family.
‘…It is to protect your loved ones, right?’
Clenching his hands tightly, he made up his resolve. Siege immediately strode towards the door without hesitation.
“Hey, where are you going suddenly…?”
Even though Barry’s voice called him, he didn’t stop. He went ahead with his own decision without an answer.
Kentrail had been busy writing letters lately. When he wrote him a letter, the most trusted officer carried it around with him.
It was mostly for families who were now at war with Caveran.
Gazing at the map spread out on the desk, he picked up every single one to see if there were noble families that he had missed.
At that moment, his eyes went to one place… It was Marie’s family. Although it was now gone, the genealogy of the nobles was still displayed because the latest edition was made to properly reflect several decades.
After sweeping the place with his hand for some reason, he shifted his gaze to look at Derek’s family. By now, he would have arrived there. He felt grateful to Derek, who voluntarily went to places he did not want to go for himself.
The next moment, a knock came.
“Who is it?”
“Siege is here.”
He heard the butler say outside.
“Tell him to come in.”
Straightening his bent body as the door opened, he looked at Siege, who was entering the room.
“What’s going on?”
“I have something to tell you.”
Kentrail, who assumed that the child’s visit was to say that he would return to his estate, nodded his head.
“I want to say here.”
However, Siege, who entered the office, brought out a completely different word.
Kentrail frowned at the words that were different from his own expectations. Perhaps, his explanation was not enough, otherwise, he had no reason to stay here. If it was just for the sake of a friend, the price to be paid in case of failure would be excessive.
“I must’ve already said it clearly who am I going to face?”
“I know. However, I… want to be with the Count, specifically for Barry and the others.”
“Siege, other people you should think about are your estate citizens.”
“Yes, so I kept thinking… Still, my decision has not changed.”
As he heard a sigh escaping from Kentrail’s mouth, Siege continued his words.
“I believe the Count will surely win.”
“…Win?”
The word ‘win’ that came out of the child’s mouth weighed on his shoulders.
“Yes, I should. But, Siege, the Royal Family and Caveran are not easy opponents.”
“I believe in the Count.”
Kentrail smirked, wondering what Siege believed in himself to make him say so resolutely.
“Think a little more. And, if you change your mind, you can always leave.”
“No. I will not change.”
The child’s eyes filled with burning resolve as he uttered that entered his eyes. Kentrail felt he needed to tell Siege a little more of his plans. Still, if he wanted to stay together, he didn’t want to stop him anymore.
“I will overthrow the King who has taken his place at the expense of my family and raise the exiled nephew as king again.”
Siege’s eyes widened slightly, then returned.
“I see.”
“I plan to remove the Caveran family from this map.”
Pointing to the place where the genealogy of the nobles was spread out, Kentrail spoke out each word in anger.
Siege just nodded his head.
“Do you still want to stay here?”
“Yes. I also want to add even a small amount of strength.”
Kentrail shook his head at the word ‘small amount.’ It was because he already knew how great Siege’s skills were from Taylor and Barry.
“Then, please take care of Brielle. There is a high probability that the mansion will be attacked while I am away. At that time, I need someone to protect Brielle.”
“Yes, Count. Don’t worry.”
Siege smiled with a confident look. Even though he was a much younger Kentrail, he was reassured by the expression on the child’s face.
Marie watched Brielle and Ellie study, clutching their heads. Staring at the difficult problems, they then ruffled their hair or stroked their forehead.
After looking at them for some time, she glanced at the papers in front of her. It was about the charity work that Kentrail talked about. The work that had been done so far was clearly written down. She was thinking about what kind of work she would do in the future based on this.
‘I’m overwhelmed with this work alone, but the Count handles so many things…?’
Realizing how amazing Kentrail was, she shook her head once. She then stared at the papers in her hands again.
“Marie.”
How focused she must have been, she heard Brielle’s voice calling out to her.
“Yes, Young Master.”
“We’re done. Can we play now?”
“Yes. How about playing in here today?”
Sadly she hadn’t finished her own work yet.
“Okay. Ellie, what are we playing?”
Brielle obeyed Marie’s wishes with a casual tone. Seeing that, she was sorry.
“Um… Would you like to play chess after a long time?”
“Great.”
Brielle rolled up his sleeves at Ellie’s suggestion. This time, he said with a grim expression that he was going to beat Ellie.
A finger flick to the forehead was at stake.
With Marie beside them, a chess match between Brielle and Ellie began. She shook her head, wondering whomever it would be, they would have a lump on their forehead today. She knew that the subject would mostly be Brielle.
The knight commander was talking with Kentrail in the commander’s room with a firm face.
“Do you understand what I mean?”
“Yes, Master.”
The commander’s sense of duty burned with the task Kentrail entrusted to him.
“You have to be careful. No one should know that you went there and the fact that you brought him here.”
“Do not worry. I’ve been told that the security has been neglected recently.”
Kentrail raised his hand and tapped the commander’s shoulder. In a way, it was the most important thing, and it was also the most dangerous job.
Taking the King’s nephew from exile and bringing him back to his mansion would not only result in the immediate death of the knight commander if caught midway though it would be possible that Charant would have to face the royal army without any defense.
It would soon be known to the Caveran side that Brielle’s aunt had come here. Derek said none of the assassins were spared alive, but they would find out who took the carriage after a little investigation.
“Although the guards are negligent, it’s not that the King has left his nephew unattended. So, you have to be careful.”
The knight commander bowed his head once with a determined look. Then, he turned around and walked to the front of the commander’s room.
“Have a safe trip, commander.”
In front of the door, Taylor saw off the commander, who was leaving for a long way.
“Yes, while I am away, you have to take good care of the knights and guard the mansion thoroughly.”
“Yes.”
After shaking hands with the vice commander, Taylor, the commander finally left the office.
Looking at the commander’s back, Kentrail hoped that he would return safely.
“Master.”
As Taylor came and closed the door, he walked over to Kentrail. He looked at Taylor, who had called him, asking with his eyes what was going on.
“If the knights of the nobles gather in the Capital, wouldn’t it be considered suspicious by the Royal Family?”
He was referring to Kentrail gathering the nobles’ troops.
“Yes. I suppose so. So, I’m going to set a date with the least suspicious time.”
Taylor’s expression darkened when Kentrail said that he would set a date. That day would be the day that decides everyone’s fate.
“What do you plan to do with Caveran?”
“Before heading to the Royal Palace that day, we must first capture Caveran. Are you worried?”
“No. Just…”
Taylor hesitated and spoke up.
“I am afraid that the common people will get caught up in this and get hurt or even die.”
At those words, Kentrail looked into his face. He liked Taylor for this reason.
“Caveran will be captured in his mansion, and the change of King will also happen in the Palace. So the general public will not be involved.”
At that moment, his expression lightened a little at Kentrail’s confident voice.
“That’s a relief.”
The Young Master should do things on his own, but Taylor, who smiled brightly as if he had said something wrong, brought up the story again.
“I heard that the nanny was in charge of the donation business.”
“Yes. I believe she will do better than me.”
Kentrail’s two eyes turned warm when the nanny was mentioned.
Feeling the difference, Taylor rubbed his arms. Somehow, peeping into someone else’s love affair still gave him goosebumps. He then opened his mouth again.
“I went under the bridge before, and there were a lot of people still living there.”
What he had seen the other day stuck in his mind.
“There are still many people who need a helping hand.”
Kentrail nodded his head with a heavy face. The nobility was busy with their parties, but on one side of the Capital, there were still many commoners living in vulnerable places.
“When this is done…”
After hesitating a moment, Taylor continued.
“I also want to help the nanny’s business.”
After finishing their conversation, Kentrail’s brow frowned slightly and then returned. He was sorry that he didn’t know his knight’s feelings and worries until Taylor brought it up so seriously.
“Do that.”
With his approval, Taylor’s expression brightened.
“Yes.”
Even though he had been given the position of vice-commander, Taylor was a young knight who had not yet started a family. Kentrail felt a sense of responsibility, hoping he could make this young knight’s dream come true.
