Chapter 6: The Young Lady Selling Herbs
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
After selling the rice grains, Su Yu finally settled the urgent matters. He now had the time to observe this world’s marketplace.
The market here was the same as those in his previous life—people were selling and buying while shouting and haggling. The things sold here were also relatively similar, apart from those rare and strange items. Su Yu was able to tell the functions of most daily use items.
In fact, it was rather normal too. The Five Deltas Continent was a place where the martial dao flourished, and the martial dao’s inheritance was limited. Therefore, there were still plenty of ordinary people, and most people in the market belonged to the ordinary category. As such, the displayed items weren’t extraordinary.
It was already close to noon and not as lively as before. Most of the stall owners were packing up and leaving. Su Yu walked around for one hour and felt it was boring, so he was preparing to leave.
However, at that moment, he gasped gently and fixed his eyes at a corner of the market.
Plenty of stalls had cleared up, and if anyone wanted to continue selling, they would surely shift their stall up front and place it in a prominent place. Yet, this stall remained in the corner—a very secluded one—that no one would really notice.
Looking from afar, Su Yu could see that the stall owner was wearing white clothes and had a petite figure. The person looked more like a young lady. Since he didn’t have anything to do, he walked over.
When walking close, Su Yu first saw her delicate and tender face, which had a pair of pure and large eyes embedded within. Her slender nose was slightly red, and it would expand and shrink slightly with every breath. On the cheeks by the side of the nose, there was some dirt. It was unknown where it was from, but it actually made her look additionally cute.
The young lady was around 15 years old, and she was wearing a tight-fitting white dress. Her dress had plenty of holes, and it seemed like they were pierced through by tree branches. The corner of her dress was also stained with mud, which matched the dirt on her face. It wasn’t hard to guess that she had descended from a mountain.
However, her eyes were filled with vigilance like an injured little rabbit as she was constantly looking around.
“Hello.”
When the young lady saw that a customer was visiting, she was reserved as she immediately stood up and bowed politely.
At that moment, Su Yu finally looked at her stall and noticed there was an old black rug. There were around 20 over types of herbs on it, and some still had morning dew. They were definitely harvested from a mountain.
Su Yu casually picked up one of the herbs from the stall and asked, “How much are these herbs for?”
Ding!
“Detected a Class-2 Herb, Power Gathering Herb. Power Gathering Herb seeds unlocked.”
The system notification shocked Su Yu. He had nearly forgotten about this mission. From the looks of it, unlocking basic seeds wasn’t really that difficult.
“This is the Power Gathering Herb, a class-2 spirit herb. After eating it, you will have double the power within a short period. 20 low-grade spirits each,” explained the young lady.
Su Yu nodded and picked up another herb.
“This is the Purple Spirit Herb, a class-2 spirit herb. It can be used to concoct the Spirit Gathering Elixir. 20 low-grade spirit stones each.” The young lady continued to explain.
“This is the Blood Congealing Flower, a class-2 spirit herb. It is effective in stopping bleeding. 15 low-grade spirit stones each.”
…
Whenever Su Yu picked up a herb, the young lady would explain carefully without any trace of impatience.
Su Yu looked at her with an astonished look. The young lady was actually able to remember all the names and effects of these 20 over herbs, and it was truly praiseworthy.
Thanks to the old Su Yu’s memories, he knew that there were numerous types and kinds of medicinal herbs in the Five Deltas Continent. Not many people would spend the time to memorize all of them. Only Spirit Medicine Masters would possess such knowledge toward herbs. Generally, only the Spirit Medicine Pavilion would be responsible for selling herbs.
Ding!
“Congratulations to the host for unlocking 10x Class-2 Seeds. Constitution +1.”
Su Yu felt his body getting warm and suddenly becoming lighter while he gained strength.
This…
Su Yu’s eyes suddenly widened as he didn’t think the hidden reward would be this. If the reward of unlocking 10x class-2 seeds was Constitution +1, what about class-3 and class-4 seeds?
If it continues to add on endlessly, won’t I become invincible?
It was a pity that the young lady only had ten stalks of class-2 spirit herbs.
Due to all the explanation, the young lady’s lips were already turning pale. Su Yu felt a little embarrassed. If he left like this, he wouldn’t have a clear conscience. In addition, this young lady had allowed him to increase his Constitution during this period. But if he bought these herbs, they wouldn’t be useful to him. He was still poor and couldn’t afford to spend recklessly.
“Sorry, I am no longer selling the herbs today.”
The sudden change caught Su Yu off guard. He was just hesitating over whether he should buy the herbs when the young lady’s expression suddenly changed, and she said she wasn’t selling them anymore.
Su Yu could see the fear in her eyes as she stood up in a panicking manner and quickly packed up the herbs on the ground.
Just as Su Yu was feeling strange, he saw three black-clothed individuals walking over quickly. Their faces were displaying a sneer while they wore tall black hats. The center of the hats was embroidered with a flying eagle crest. Su Yu was familiar with the crest, as they were none other than the Spirit Medicine Pavilion’s people.
Han Dapeng was a 10th Stage Outer Art martial artist and the Spirit Medicine Pavilion’s outer deacon. The Spirit Medicine Pavilion was within this vicinity, so he was responsible for the safety here. After learning that someone was selling herbs in the market, he had quickly rushed there.
“Ha! Caught you!”
The young lady didn’t know any martial arts and couldn’t possibly be faster than the trio. Just as she finished packing up the herbs, she had been surrounded.
“Young lady, are you a Spirit Medicine Master? How dare you sell spirit herbs illegally? You have quite the courage,” Han Dapeng said in a cold voice.
The young lady’s back was against the wall as she bit her lips and timidly shook her head.
Su Yu finally understood why the young lady would choose to set up her stall in the corner and was being so vigilant.
The Spirit Medicine Pavilion had issued a notice that all transactions related to spirit herbs and medicine were prohibited unless Spirit Medicine Masters conducted them. The prohibition was understandable, too. If one wasn’t a Spirit Medicine Master, how would they be able to differentiate the spirit herbs? What if they identified the spirit herbs wrongly and harmed others? It might be reasonable, but it was still extremely overbearing.
“We will be confiscating the spirit herbs this time as a warning! Next time, if we see you doing the same thing again, you shall stay in prison for a few days.” His merciless words made the young lady’s face turn pale.
Su Yu noticed that the young lady’s fingers were turning white as she was grabbing onto the spirit herbs too tightly. Her initially timid eyes now had a trace of unbending will and subtle tears.
The young lady was covered in mud and must have paid quite the price to harvest these herbs. Furthermore, these should be all her wealth, so it would be too ruthless if they were confiscated. The Spirit Medicine Pavilion was truly oppressive.
“Hold on! I have already bought these spirit herbs. You cannot take them!” Su Yu lifted his brows and spoke immediately.
The young lady was startled and looked at Su Yu with gratitude.
“She isn’t a Spirit Medicine Master, so your transaction can be voided. If you wish to purchase spirit herbs, you can buy them from the Spirit Medicine Pavilion.” Han Dapeng gestured with his hand for the two subordinates to get closer to the young lady. They reached out their hands and were able to seize those spirit herbs…
