By then, Cindy would still have to rely on them.
Therefore, the three of them went shopping for gifts.
However, they did not have any experience buying gifts for a grand family like the Zhekova Family, so they felt uncertain about whether the gifts they chose were appropriate.
Of course, Christy Xenos was always stingy, so she really did not have much experience with gift-giving.
Whether in the past when they were poor, or when they later got in touch with the ultra-rich circles in Nork City, Christy never willingly spent a cent.
Even when they needed to grease the wheels, don’t even think about getting her to spend a penny.
Even though Wendy had explained this to Christy many times, when it was time to actually spend money, Christy felt it very heartbreaking.
Although it was Wendy’s money being spent, watching Wendy swipe the card felt painful to Christy.
What hadn’t the elders in the Zhekova Family experienced?
Not just any item could satisfy their eyes, hence no matter what they purchased, they weren’t sure if it was appropriate.
If the gift was too expensive, even Wendy was unwilling to buy it, let alone Christy. However, what was considered costly in their eyes might be trivial to the elders in the Zhekova Family.
So they bought some health supplements such as Bird’s Nest; Wendy was not stingy and chose the highest grade available in the store.
The elders were used to lavish diets; they could naturally tell whether these were of good quality.
They also purchased some fruit gift boxes. With Christy’s repeated statements like, “This should be enough”, “Okay”, “It’s enough”, they went to checkout.
The trio left the mall and hailed another car.
Christy then said, “Wendy, we will stay more often in Belfard from now on. Not to mention that your daily commute to and from the Restaurant would need constant hailing of cabs, we should have our own car.”
Wendy nodded, “It is inconvenient without a car. , I have already placed an order, and I will pick it up in a few days.”
“Why didn’t you tell me when you ordered the car?” Upon hearing this, Christy felt unsatisfied, “What, you only ordered one?”
“Then, how would your father and I get around? We don’t know how to use mobile apps to hail cabs, and it’s not convenient to wait for taxis. Plus, hailing a ride in Belfard is difficult — these drivers refuse passengers too often. Either the route isn’t along their way, or the distance is too short or long, it’s as if they only want to pick up certain types of passengers.”
“Mom, this is exactly when we need money for the Restaurant. Neither you nor dad can drive a car. Even if we get one, it likely wouldn’t get much use.” Wendy responded with furrowed brows.
“Can’t we hire a driver?” Christy retorted, “Belfard is not a small place like Nork City, where cars are available with ease. Here, we’re unfamiliar with the city and its routes, and taking public transportation is really inconvenient. Having our own car and a driver would make life a lot easier. We could go anywhere we wanted and wouldn’t need to bother you.”
“That’s right. Cindy, being the Young Madam, must have access to the Zhekova Family’s drivers for commuting. She can arrange for one of them to help.” Wendy immediately suggested.
“Oh yes!” Christy exclaimed, “We wouldn’t even have to invest in hiring someone else.”
“Moreover, hiring randomly from outside isn’t reliable; their Zhekova Family’s driver would provide us peace of mind. Also, the drivers from the Zhekova Family are experienced and wouldn’t behave like others who haven’t seen the world. They wouldn’t want to snatch a bit of our money, would they?” Wendy added.
Listening to this, Christy found Wendy’s point extremely reasonable. “Right, we should ask Cindy to arrange this. Adrian must have many luxury cars, we wouldn’t even need to buy our own or have Cindy spend her money. We could just directly use one of Adrian’s cars. That’s really convenient.”
Joshua Clarke hesitated and asked, “Wouldn’t the Zhekova Family dislike Cindy for sending everything home?”
“We haven’t asked for the Zhekova Family’s money or made Cindy pay for anything. We are just asking for one of their spare cars and a driver, which should be a small task for them.” Christy quickly responded.
“If the Zhekova Family would fuss over such trivial matters, then they are really stingy.” Christy mumbled.
“I’m worried that it’s not the Zhekova Family who might be unwilling, but rather Cindy herself.” Wendy took a different view.
“Cindy has many considerations to make in the Zhekova Family. She can’t act as she pleases, which is understandable.” Joshua defended Cindy.
“Even if it’s inconvenient, it’s just a trivial matter for a wife of the Zhekova Family. What’s the purpose of her marrying into the family then? Neither can do this nor do that. Everything seems to lack funds according to her. What did she see in Adrian then? Just his face?” Christy spoke sarcastically.
“She even denied her own family for Adrian.”
Wendy said flatly, “Since Cindy can marry into the family, there must be benefits. If she, as the Young Madam of the Zhekova Family, doesn’t even have this little power, then she will become a joke.”
Christy added, “That’s true. This is not just about Cindy losing face, but also about the Zhekova Family’s reputation. If their daughter-in-law can’t handle anything, the Zhekova Family will also become a laughing stock. Joshua, we should just let Cindy keep whatever pocket money Adrian gives her.”
“Having the car and driver from the Zhekova Family is great, isn’t it? Otherwise, what’s the point of marrying into the Zhekova Family? Isn’t it just to enjoy some of their benefits? There’s no advantage to it, so why would people break their heads trying to marry into rich families?”
Joshua then said, “Let’s discuss it with Cindy later. If it really doesn’t work, let’s not force her.”
“Alright.” Although Christy agreed with her mouth, she surely wouldn’t let Cindy off easily.
Unknowingly, while they were talking, the car had arrived at the entrance to the Zhekova Family Mansion.
The driver helped them open the trunk and fetched the gifts.
Joshua and Christy each carried some items, and went towards the mansion gate.
Before reaching the steps, Christy looked up at the mansion’s magnificent red giant door and its towering wall.
There was a huge plaque on the door with vigorous characters stating “Zhekova Residence”.
Christy was quite stunned by the grandeur of the mansion: “Wow! Such a big mansion, I’ve only seen these in TV shows set in royal and noble family residences. I can’t believe these still exist! If not for seeing it in person, I really wouldn’t believe that anyone could actually live in such a large mansion!”
“This place covers such a large area!” Christy looked up and added, “This courtyard is not like a block of flats, it occupies solid ground. I wonder how much this mansion must cost?”
