Chapter 584: Chapter 587: Whipping
Ye Xingbei: “…Go away!”
Not only did Gu Junzhu not leave, but he instead leaned in to kiss her.
Just as his lips were about to touch Ye Xingbei’s, her phone rang.
Her face flushed, Ye Xingbei pushed him away and checked her phone: “Brother Li.”
Gu Junzhu snorted, “The one who eats flies.”
Ye Xingbei ignored him, turned her back to him, and answered the phone: “Hello, Brother Li?”
“Beibei, you’re awake?” Ye Xingli sounded both shocked and delighted.
“Mmm,” Ye Xingbei said, “I’m pretty alright now, Gu Junzhu’s medicine is particularly effective.”
Gu Junzhu nibbled at her ear: “Calling my name that way is impolite? Call me husband… or, you can call me Fifth Brother.”
With one hand free, Ye Xingbei swatted at him, “Scram.”
On the other end of the phone, Ye Xingli: “…Beibei, is Fifth Brother with you?”
“Mmm,” Ye Xingbei said, “he’s here, do you want to talk to him?”
“No, I was looking for you, Beibei, I wanted to tell you…”
Before he could finish, Gu Junzhu’s voice came from the phone: “Beibei’s asleep.”
Then the phone hung up, transmitting a series of busy tones.
Ye Xingli: “…”
Ye Xinglan walked into the living room to find Ye Xingli holding his phone in a daze.
He walked over, placed a hand on Ye Xingli’s shoulder, and asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
“Beibei’s awake,” Ye Xingli said in distress, “but Fifth Brother won’t let her take my calls. I was wondering if it’s too late to go to his house now. I need to bring her back.”
Ye Xingbei is awake, but their parents aren’t.
Their mom’s condition was slightly better, just suffering from a relentless fever, fitfully sleeping and waking. The doctors said her life wasn’t in danger.
But their dad couldn’t delay any longer.
Their father had been unconscious, teetering on the brink of death.
No matter what, he had to bring Ye Xingbei to see their father one last time.
It’d be great if they could save their father’s life.
But even if they couldn’t, they couldn’t afford to let their father depart with guilt and regret towards Beibei, unable to find peace even in death.
“Your going doesn’t make sense,” Ye Xinglan, after some silence, patted his shoulder, “I’ll go.”
Ye Xingli said, “Let’s go together then; I have to see Beibei to feel assured. I won’t be at peace unless I see her.”
“Alright, we’ll go together,” Ye Xinglan said, “I have some things to do, you wait for me awhile.”
Ye Xingli nodded, “Okay.”
Ye Xinglan returned to his bedroom.
Upon closing the door to his room, he called his personal bodyguard, Zhen Yuan, to come over.
Shortly after, Zhen Yuan knocked and entered: “Young Master.”
Ye Xinglan handed the whip in his hand to Zhen Yuan, before taking off his shirt and bracing himself against a wall, “Do it.”
Zhen Yuan: “…Young Master?”
Ye Xinglan took a deep breath: “I’m going to apologize to the Gu family. You know the drill; don’t make me explain. If I ask you to do it, you do it.”
He was different from Ye Xingli.
He was the heir of the Ye family; his dignity represented the Ye family’s dignity.
He couldn’t possibly kneel at Gu Junzhu’s feet and slap himself like Ye Xingli had done.
But for a mistake made, there was always a price to pay.
Just like what Ye Xingli said, if he had disclosed Ye Xingbei’s identity to their parents earlier, they wouldn’t have made such a terrible mistake.
The true culprit was him.
The person who deserved to be punished the most should be him.
Zhen Yuan clenched the whip in his hand and gritted his teeth: “Yes, Young Master!”
He raised the whip and brought it down heavily on Ye Xinglan’s back.
