Devil’s Music - Chapter 3-1

Gamagin looked down at the sleeping figure of Geon and stroked his chin.
”You’re a nobody. Your face is very plain too… I see lots of talent in art and music, but not much intelligence.”
As he gently patted the boy’s head, the devil called on his subordinates.
“Paymon.”
A bloody circle of light appeared right next to Geon. An ominous black light burst out as someone appeared.
“It’s been a long time, sir.”
The boy riding a sheep and wearing a golden crown bowed his head slightly. His blonde hair reached his knees, and the sheep he was riding looked like a bloodthirsty monster thanks to its ferocious, bloodshot eyes. It was Paymon, the ninth among the 72 devil monarchs.
Also known as Peymon, he was the monarch of the 200 huge corps that ruled the West of hell. He excelled in arts and various other studies. Originally the main angel, Paymon was also the spirit that controlled fire among the four elements.
“It’s been a long time, hasn’t it? Wasn’t it already 300 years ago that Lucifer hosted our first night of slaughter?”
Gamagin smiled warmly and patted the boy on the shoulder. Paymon smiled back faintly.
“I’ve heard you’re still searching for holy power, sir… But this is the human world, how would you be able to stay here? The angels up in heaven know you won’t do harm, but there will certainly be a problem in hell…”
Gamagin hit him on the back lightly with a smile.
“Thank you for your concern. But I won’t stay here long, don’t worry.”
“But… Why are you here? It must have taken you a lot of power to summon me, what is there here that would make it worth it?”
Gamagin nodded and said: “Well, yes. As you know, I’m collecting holy power. You also know that my men used to approach politicians in the human world to collect it. That much information is basic for you to be able to command your 200 troops, isn’t that right?”
“Of course, sir. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mean to surveil you, but even the higher-ups are talking about it, you see…”, Paymon muttered.
“Right. You’re a self-proclaimed gossip machine, after all. So did you get those results or not?”
Paymon hesitated for a moment.
“Uh… Yes, sir… I heard the results weren’t very good…”
“Yeah. Must be a strange feeling for you to talk about it with me. Surely you’ve heard how it works? The right politicians, nurtured by hard study and some special blessings, fall into Marvas’s trap.Of course, only Marvas likes the idea…”
Paymon nodded.
“So that’s why I’m taking it into my own hands this time. I’m making a child that can bring happiness to the world through music. If it makes people happy, that in itself creates holy power, doesn’t it?”, Gamagin said, clasping his hands together.
“Sir, art is a dangerous thing to play with.Don’t you know that many people that grew up listening to that music developed mental illnesses, committed suicide, or killed other people?”
“Well, you’re not wrong. Still, it’s very few people that make wrong choices or develop personality problems because of human music. And for every one of those people, there’s a thousand others that are made happy by it. The holy power generated would be great.”
Paymon looked down at the sleeping child. Gamagin looked at him again and grabbed his hands.
“Paymon. I can give this child academic talents and good looks, but I can’t give him your beautiful voice. Can’t you give the child that blessing? I will compensate you generously, of course.”
Paymon burst into laughter.
“Hah, that’s your loss. Aren’t you happy to hoard all the mana to yourself?”
Gamagin also started laughing.
“And you are the leader of a large army. It would certainly serve you well…”
Paymon shook his head.
“All right. I’ll do it. With one condition.”
“And what would that be?”
“Let me watch him, too.”
“What? The kid?”
“Yes. Let me watch him grow up, witness his future with all the joy and pain.”
“But why?”
“You don’t really care about that, do you…”
He smirked.
“Do you want him to be a good singer and nothing else? All I can bless him with is a voice. You’re the one that will have to give him mana. A child blessed by demons, yet having to pay no price? That will be interesting to see… Very interesting.”
