Chen Mo first spent more than ten minutes raising his Level to 3. He then headed to the east of Aiur Town and accepted the quest “Protect Jadeite Pheasant” from an old man NPC called Brad.
The quest “Protect Jadeite Pheasant” was only available to Players above Level 3. Only a few Players knew there was a quest here since Brad was in quite a remote place outside Aiur Town. There were not many monsters in the area either.
Chen Mo did not learn about the quest because someone had mentioned it on the forum. He had learned about the quest “Protect Jadeite Pheasant” from the information that he had hacked previously.
The quest was not difficult, but it was a little time-consuming. After accepting the quest, he would have to protect the Jadeite Pheasant from being attacked by Vultures for ten minutes in a small dungeon.
The Vultures had low damage. They were far from a threat to the Player. The Player only had to stand in front of the Jadeite Pheasant that the Vultures were attacking.
“HAHA, brave adventurer, I will reward you if you can complete the quest!” Brad laughed and sent Chen Mo into a tiny dungeon.
The sky was already dark, but the dungeon was unaffected by the outside environment. Chen Mo found himself in a backyard. On the field of grass stood a proud Jadeite Pheasant, while a few Vultures were soaring in the blue sky.
Brad did not mention what the reward was. However, Chen Mo saw on the forum that Brad would reward the Player with 10 copper and 100 exp once they completed the quest. It was reasonable for a Level 3 Player, but it was negligible for Players above Level 4.
It was obvious that Chen Mo did not come for the reward.
When the quest began, a Vulture dived from the sky right at the Jadeite Pheasant.
Chen Mo was supposed to stand in front of the Vulture to protect the Jadeite Pheasant. However, he fired a bolt at the Jadeite Pheasant when the Vulture was attacking it instead.
The Jadeite Pheasant had a very low HP. It died instantly to the bolt.
The Vulture was stunned. It gloomily flew into the sky after losing its target.
System Notification: You have brutally killed the target you’re supposed to be protecting. -10 World Reputation!
“As I thought,” Chen Mo was not surprised by the System Notification. It was exactly the same as the information he acquired, even though he had no idea how the person knew it was possible to decrease the character’s World Reputation this way.
The quest did not fail even after the Jadeite Pheasant died. The quest was asking the Player to protect the Jadeite Pheasant from the Vultures. Therefore, the quest would only fail if the Vultures landed a hit on the Jadeite Pheasant.
Ten seconds later, a light flickered in the backyard. A Jadeite Pheasant had spawned.
Chen Mo killed the Jadeite Pheasant with a bolt before the Vultures could react.
System Notification: You have brutally killed the target you’re supposed to be protecting. -10 World Reputation!
Chen Mo’s World Reputation had decreased by 10 again. It was currently sitting at -20.
Chen Mo did not stop there. Ten seconds later, the Jadeite Pheasant spawned again, but it soon died to Chen Mo’s attack.
The Vultures in the sky had no idea what to do. Their job was to attack the Jadeite Pheasant, yet they never had a chance to attack it.
…
System Notification: You have brutally killed the target you’re supposed to be protecting. -10 World Reputation!
System Notification: Your World Reputation has reached -100. All NPCs will no longer provide you with any service. You will now revive in “The Land of Outcast!”
System Notification: You have received the title “The Corrupted”!
Title: The Corrupted
Description: A unique title granted to the Player after reaching -100 World Reputation. Its effects are only valid when equipped.
Attribute:
Strength +10
Constitution +10
Dexterity +10
Intelligence +10
Spirit +10
Movement Speed +2
Additional Effect(s): Player can only unequip the title 3 hours after equipping it. When equipping the title, Player is not allowed to enter human territories, the death penalty is multiplied, certain NPCs have a higher affection to the Player.
“The information is right!” Chen Mo nodded in satisfaction. The time he used to hack the information was not in vain.
The attributes from the title “The Corrupted” were not insane. They were equivalent to the attributes a character would receive after two to three levels. However, the price that a Player had to pay to unlock the title was quite insane too. It was not easy to revert the -100 World Reputation. There were quests that a Player could do in the Land of Outcast to revert their World Reputation, but the quests were not designed for low-level Players. It was the reason why Chen Mo did not come here to do the quest right away.
Even if Chen Mo committed suicide here, he could not afford to wear the title “The Corrupted” as he pleased either.
“Asshole, what have you done!”
Brad showed up furiously and snapped at Chen Mo when he killed the Jadeite Pheasant ten times in a row.
Brad was supposed to catch Chen Mo and put him in jail for at least four hours. He would then be driven out of Aiur Town and revived in the Land of Outcast.
Chen Mo had never been to the Land of Outcast, but he knew it was not a place for Players below Level 10.
Chen Mo did not hesitate to input the command to commit suicide the moment Brad caught him.
He returned to the Character Creation Room. He made some slight adjustments and entered the game.
Once again, he found himself back in the Goblin Valley. It seemed like he would find his way back here every time he committed suicide, unless he deleted his character or left the Rookie Village after reaching Level 10.
The same “Old Crossbow”, 100 bolts, and the skill book of “Set Basic Trap” were inside his backpack. The Ordinary Crossbow, Goblin Boots, Wild Woof Leggings, and the mutated potions that he had acquired before were not in the backpack. They had been placed in storage. He could only retrieve them after making his way back to Aiur Town.
However, both the titles “Dying at the Speed of Light” and “The Pioneer of Liberty” were still available in his character panel. Chen Mo could easily switch between them.
The title “The Corrupted” with a lot of extra attributes was on the list too. However, since Chen Mo had only obtained the title at Level 3, he could only equip it when he reached Level 3. Otherwise, Chen Mo could forcibly kill the White Goblins in the cave with the title.
Since Chen Mo had already done it before, it did not take long for him to kill the six White Goblins in the cave and reach Level 2.
He opened the treasure box in the cave. This time, it only contained the skill book for “Dazing Trap”. The Ordinary Crossbow was nowhere to be seen.
However, it did not make much of a difference. Half an hour later, only one Black Goblin remained in the valley.
Chen Mo had purposely spared the Black Goblin’s life so it would turn into the Mutated Black Goblin.
Chen Mo counted the times the Black Goblin’s HP regenerated. Previously, the Black Goblin had mutated after its HP recovered thirteen times, but this time, it took the Black Goblin twenty times to mutate.
In addition to it, the Mutated Black Goblin had significantly less loot compared to before.
The Mutated Black Goblin only dropped 60+ copper, one Low-level Mutated Strength Potion, and one Low-level Mutated Dexterity Potion. There was nothing else.
Chen Mo could not help but exclaim how wise of his decision of not wasting his time on killing the Mutated Black Goblins repetitively was.
Chen Mo took the teleportation portal to Aiur Town. He did not rush out of the town to grind his levels. There were still many Players around. He now had a goal in mind. He had to think about how he could get a set of impressive equipment that he could wear at Level 10.
“Mm, a bunch of Players has already left Aiur Town and went to the three main cities? The equipment that the monsters in the three main cities drop is all Level 11 and above?” Chen Mo browsed the forum. The Players that were leveling up the quickest had already left the Rookie Village and headed to the three main cities in the hour he spent on starting over again.
The three main cities were the East Ocean City close to the Miracle Ocean, the Wind Storm City in the Wind Storm Desert, and the Dark Shadow City in the Dark Serene Forest.
There were other smaller cities apart from the three main cities, but the Players had yet to find them.
Chen Mo initially planned to leave Aiur Town and buy some equipment in the other cities before having a duel of life and death with Inoch, but it was no longer an option.
It seemed like Aiur Town was the only place with equipment below Level 10.
However, Chen Mo was well aware of how low the drop rates were in Aiur Town, let alone finding any impressive equipment.
If Chen Mo was as rich as Da Qingshan, he would consider buying equipment from the Players.
But even so, he doubted if he could find a full set of impressive equipment in Aiur Town even if he had the money. Currently, the best piece of equipment he saw on the forum was a Green Equipment which was one grade higher than a Blue Equipment.
There seemed to be a Purple Equipment too, but only the Level 10 Boss, Slime King outside of Aiur Town would drop it.
