A distance of two meters was almost within a person’s reach. Most people would be panicking by now.
It was important for Chen Mo to concentrate when setting a trap while moving. If he slightly lost his focus, the skill would fail.
Chen Mo remained calm as usual. As a hacker, it was extremely important to remain calm at all times, especially when he was in a pinch. Otherwise, all his efforts would be in vain. Besides, he was only playing a game. He could easily try again if he failed. The two White Goblins did not give him any pressure.
Chen Mo accurately performed the sequence of actions. He had finished setting the trap when the two White Goblins were trying to move closer to him. He tossed the trap at the goblins.
Boom!
An explosion took place. Two indicators with a value of 20+ floated above the White Goblins!
On top of it, the White Goblins slowed down simultaneously!
The area ahead of Chen Mo lit up the moment the White Goblins slowed down. He successfully made it out of the cave!
Even if the White Goblins caught up in the end, Chen Mo could still make it to the two boulders with the Minor Healing Skill since he had made it out of the cave.
Since the last trap had also triggered the Disabled effect, the two White Goblins would have no chance of catching up to him.
These low-level creatures were not that smart. They had no trouble chasing after a target in a straight line in the cave, but their lack of wisdom was exposed the moment there were obstacles between them and the target they were pursuing.
Chen Mo was planning to slowly wear out the White Goblins after luring them to the boulders. However, he realized how pitiful the intelligence of the two goblins was. Chen Mo kited them around the boulders, but to his surprise, the goblins suddenly stopped chasing. They were hesitating if they should head left or right to intercept Chen Mo.
As such, they had no chance of catching up to Chen Mo.
The five traps previously had taken away more than a hundred HP from the two White Goblins. Chen Mo focused his traps and his bolts on one of them. It did not take him too long to kill one of the White Goblins.
System Notification: You have obtained 30 exp!
“That’s a lot!”
Chen Mo saw the experience bar increasing by 20% when he took out the first White Goblin.
In other words, if he killed all six White Goblins in the cave, it was more than enough for him to reach Level 2.
His attributes would improve significantly after reaching Level 2, thus it would be a lot easier for him to fight the Black Goblins in the valley.
The other White Goblin was still chasing him. However, the White Goblin only had a little more than two hundred HP left. The White Goblins were having trouble chasing Chen Mo down when there were two of them, let alone just one of them left. Chen Mo kept abusing the obstacles and eventually killed the White Goblin with ease.
The experienced bar increased by another 20%. On top of it, the White Goblin also dropped three copper coins after it died.
Three copper was pretty insignificant, but Chen Mo still picked them up without any hesitation since he did not have a single cent on him. A single copper might make a lot of differences, especially in a game.
Things were a lot easier after Chen Mo had done it once.
However, the plan of luring the White Goblins and killing them would only work still if the traps managed to apply the Disabled debuff to the White Goblins. The 10% chance was not particularly high or low. It solely depended on his luck. Chen Mo died two more times before he finally killed the second pair of White Goblins.
There was no punishment for Players that died below Level 10. The experience bar was around 90% after Chen Mo killed the second pair of White Goblins. He just needed to kill one more to level up.
Chen Mo was in luck when he engaged the last pair of White Goblins. He managed to lure them out of the cave with his first attempt.
System Notification: Your level has increased!
System Notification: Your basic attributes have increased!
Strength +3
Constitution +2
Dexterity +2
Intelligence +2
Spirit +1
White light burst out of Chen Mo’s body after he killed the fifth White Goblin with ease. He felt warm energy surging within his body. His HP replenished all of a sudden.
However, Chen Mo was more concerned about the improvement of his basic attributes. It was the key aspect that would determine if he was able to defeat the Black Goblins.
Chen Mo glanced at the attributes and discovered that the increase to the attributes was rather balanced for the class Hunter.
Each level would grant a Player ten attribute points, and the System would auto allocate these attribute points based on the character’s class. Players were unable to alter these attribute points themselves.
However, apart from the ten attribute points allocated by the System, Players also had five attribute points that they could allocate freely.
Even so, when Chen Mo took a closer look, he discovered that he could only assign four of the attribute points freely. The last point could only be assigned to the attributes other than the character’s main attributes.
Constitution was the main attribute for every class. Apart from it, the main attributes of a Hunter were Strength and Intelligence. In other words, he had to assign a point to Dexterity or Spirit every five attribute points he received.
The other four attribute points were completely free. Players could allocate to any attribute as they wished.
Even though Dexterity and Spirit were not the main attributes of a Hunter, Players could not afford to ignore them completely, since Dexterity would determine the speed of setting up straps and firing bolts, while Spirit would affect the loyalty of Hunter’s pets. It was important not to overlook the loyalty of pets since it would determine if the pets were willing to obey the Player’s instructions. Regardless of how strong a pet was, if the loyalty of the pet was too low, it was unlikely to be of any use to the Player.
As for the three main attributes of a Hunter, Strength would determine the physical damage of traps and bolts. Constitution would affect the character’s HP, and Intelligence would affect the damage of Hunter’s pets.
Among them, the attributes that a Hunter would struggle with the most when deciding on which attribute to allocate the points to were Strength and Intelligence. The two attributes would determine the path that a Hunter was taking. If more points were allocated to Strength, the Hunter would specialize in using crossbows. If more points were allocated to Intelligence, the Hunter would specialize in fighting with pets.
Chen Mo had yet to decide which path he was going to take, whether it was using crossbows or pets. However, he believed traps were the most important for the time being. Therefore, he allocated one point to Dexterity and the remaining four to Strength without any hesitation.
In the beginning, when Chen Mo first equipped the crossbow, the range of his physical damage was 4-5. It then became 5-6 after he obtained the title “Dying at the Speed of Light”. After reaching Level 2 and allocating the attribute points, his strength was now 11, and the range of his damage was 12-13.
It seemed like every point in Strength would only increase his physical damage by one.
However, Chen Mo realized that was not necessarily the case when he discovered that his attack had instantly dropped to 0 when he unequipped the crossbow. It was obvious that his damage was tightly related to the basic damage of the weapon he was equipping.
The fact that his weapon had the attribute “Basic Physical Damage” instead of just “Damage” proved his speculation too.
However, he was unsure what the exact formula for calculating damage was.
Either way, his damage had basically doubled after he leveled up. His HP had increased by forty too. He could almost endure an extra hit from a White Goblin.
Chen Mo immediately used the last White Goblin to test his damage.
He quickly set up a trap and lured the White Goblin to step on it. The trap exploded.
-43!
The damage indicator floated above the White Goblin. The damage of his trap had almost doubled!
The damage was slightly lower than what Chen Mo had imagined. After all, his damage had risen more than double, but after thinking it through, Chen Mo believed there must be a different formula for the damage inflicted on the monsters in the game. Otherwise, it was unlikely that his trap would deal 20+ damage to the White Goblins when his damage was only in the range of 5-6.
Chen Mo was able to kill the last White Goblin easily since his damage had increased significantly.
System Notification: You have obtained 30 exp!
Killing a White Goblin still gave him 30 exp, yet the experience bar had only increased by 7% this time. It turned out that the experience needed to reach the next level every time he leveled up would increase by a lot too.
There were around forty to fifty Black Goblins in the valley. The Black Goblins were a Level 4 monster. Chen Mo roughly estimated that he would be able to reach Level 4 after killing them all.
He picked up the copper that the White Goblin had dropped and ran to the end of the cave.
The bronze chest was located at the end of the cave. It was no longer guarded by the White Goblins. Chen Mo went to the chest and opened it.
System Notification: You have obtained the skill book “Dazing Trap”!
System Notification: You have obtained the equipment “Ordinary Crossbow”!
“Pretty good!” Chen Mo exclaimed.
The loot inside the treasure chest was better than he thought. Not only did it have a skill book, but it also had a weapon too!
