Dazing Trap: A skill book for the Hunter class. Level requirement: 1. Using it will allow a Hunter to learn the skill “Dazing Trap”.
There were two items in the chest—an “Ordinary Crossbow” with a base damage of 3-4 which was slightly better than the default weapon he had, and a skill book. The description of the skill book was too simple. Chen Mo could not tell what the skill was from the description. He decisively learned the skill.
System Notification: You have learned the skill “Dazing Trap”!
Dazing Trap (Novice Level): A trap laid with a special method. The trap deals damage to enemies and dazes any target caught within its explosion, including allies. It will also knock Players and monsters back two meters. Skill cooldown: 30 seconds. Trap duration: 60 seconds. Maximum traps: 2.
“A supportive trap,” Chen Mo arrived at a conclusion after reading the spell’s description.
A Hunter’s traps were categorized as offensive and supportive. The Dazing Trap was clearly a supportive and defensive trap. The skill description did not specify its damage, thus it would most likely have a low damage. However, the Dazing Trap sounded quite handy for a Hunter.
Hunters were not great at close distance combat. Their skills were pretty much useless when the enemies got close. However, if the Dazing Trap was placed perfectly, it would immediately create a distance of four meters between the Hunter and the enemies.
These were only the effects of the trap at the Novice Level. The trap was surely going to be more effective at higher levels.
It was pretty easy to set up the Dazing Trap. It only had a few extra actions compared to a Basic Trap. The actions were similar to those Chen Mo was doing when setting a Basic Trap. He was familiar with the Basic Trap now. It did not take him too long to set a Dazing Trap after some practice. He was now able to set a Dazing Trap with ease, and the traps all had a completion rate of above 60%.
“As I thought, the hardest part of leaving this valley is dealing with the White Goblins. Taking these Black Goblins is no longer a problem to me now that I have the Dazing Trap,” Chen Mo thought.
He was able to place two Dazing Traps at a time. If he placed them at the right spots, it would seriously hinder the Black Goblins’ chase.
That being said, these Black Goblins were a lot quicker than the White Goblins. Their damage was significantly higher too. Even though Chen Mo now had 120 HP and the Minor Healing Skill could heal him for 50 HP, he could only endure two hits from the Black Goblins. If he was having bad luck, or if the Black Goblins were smarter, it would still be dangerous when he was kiting the Black Goblins at the boulders.
The Dazing Trap had given him a chance, but he still needed a little luck to kill the Black Goblins.
Chen Mo looked at the group of Black Goblins in the valley and shook his head. He would have to kill at least half of the Black Goblins before he could leave the valley. He was surely going to die quite a few times.
-Wait a second!-
Chen Mo suddenly patted himself on the head.
Why did he have to kite the Black Goblins? Now that he had learned how to set traps with the Free Skill Casting system and how to set traps on rocks and use them like grenades, he no longer had to stick to the same plan to take out the Black Goblins!
There was a two-meter-tall boulder in the distance. He could lure the Black Goblins to the boulder and climb up the boulder. He could easily kill the Black Goblins by tossing the traps down!
Such a brilliant plan!
Chen Mo ran over to the boulder and practiced climbing it a few times. Otherwise, he would become a laughing stock if he failed to climb the boulder after luring the monsters to it.
After practicing climbing the boulder, Chen Mo stood on it and tried setting his traps.
As he thought, he was able to set up traps on the boulder. However, Chen Mo surprisingly discovered that if he set the traps the normal way, the actions his character was doing would flicker and fail most of the time. However, it was a lot simpler when he set the traps with the Free Skill Casting system. The traps were no longer restrained by the terrain. He had found himself a great advantage by unlocking the Free Skill Casting system earlier than the other Players.
Many Players would come up with the plan of attacking the monsters from a high ground, but not many Players would be able to do so in a perfectly safe manner.
Chen Mo observed the distribution of the Black Goblins nearby and calculated the distance in his heart before setting the traps.
The Black Goblins closest to Chen Mo were less than forty meters away. The range of his crossbow was eleven meters. Therefore, he only had to place five traps in a straight line over thirty meters, and set up two Basic Traps and one Dazing Trap while he was moving later.
There were eight traps available. Even if the Black Goblins were quicker than the White Goblins, they had no chance of catching up to Chen Mo. The three Dazing Traps alone were enough to stop the Black Goblins from coming close to him. He would be perfectly safe if one of the five Basic Traps had the Disabled effect.
After Chen Mo was done setting the traps, he approached the two Black Goblins that were the closest to him and fired a bolt at them when they were standing side by side.
The two Black Goblins charged at Chen Mo furiously. They soon stepped on a Basic Trap. The trap exploded, but it had failed to trigger the Disabled effect. However, after taking a few more steps, the two Black Goblins went back two meters. They had stepped on a Dazing Trap.
The Dazing Trap was more effective than Chen Mo had expected. Even though it was only able to knock monsters two meters back, it also forced the monsters to come to a stop while the Player continued running. As such, it ended up creating a distance of more than two meters.
Chen Mo easily lured the two Black Goblins to the huge boulder with the help of the Dazing Traps. Chen Mo was already sitting on the huge boulder when the two Black Goblins arrived. He took his time setting a trap on a rock and tossed it down at the goblins that were circling the boulder in vain.
Chen Mo did not use his crossbow. Using the crossbow would consume the bolts. He only had a hundred bolts that the System had given him. He would not be able to use the crossbow after using all the bolts. Besides, the bolts would not deal much damage without a proper skill.
The traps exploded continuously. Even though each trap could only deal less than forty damage to the Black Goblins with 500 HP, Chen Mo was able to toss each trap precisely. The trap would land in the middle of the two goblins so the trap would deal damage to both goblins.
The skill was available every nine seconds. The two Black Goblins barely had any HP left after a minute and a half.
The Black Goblins glared at Chen Mo as they were approaching their death. They gradually became more irascible. Chen Mo could even feel their defense had improved by a little.
However, Chen Mo was unable to learn anything useful. The two Black Goblins soon fell to the ground as their HP bars were empty.
Each goblin dropped around four copper. Chen Mo gladly took them all.
“It takes me two minutes to kill a pair of them. I’ll need roughly half an hour to clear a path.”
Chen Mo quickly calculated the time he needed and was relieved. Half an hour was not that long.
However, he was assuming that the Black Goblins in the valley would not respawn. Otherwise, it would be quite tricky for him to leave the place.
Half an hour was gone soon. As Chen Mo expected, the Black Goblins did not respawn. However, Chen Mo was not in a rush to leave the valley. The Black Goblins that were alive were constantly moving around. It was impossible for Chen Mo to sneak past.
Chen Mo had reached Level 3 in the past half hour. Ten attribute points were allocated by the System. The remaining five were allocated to the same attributes as before. His Strength was now 18, and together with the Ordinary Crossbow’s damage, his total damage was now in the range of 21-22. A Basic Trap could now deal around 70 damage to the Black Goblins.
The time he needed to kill a Black Goblin had reduced by half. Chen Mo decided to spend more time in the valley to kill all the Black Goblins. The exp they were giving was high, and it was very easy to kill them by utilizing the boulder.
Chen Mo’s HP had increased by 40 too, making his total HP 160. He no longer had to worry dying to the Black Goblins even when they were further away.
The remaining Black Goblins rapidly died in pairs. Chen Mo’s experience bar continued to rise too.
Soon, there was only one last pair of Black Goblins in the valley.
Chen Mo looked at the experience bar. It turned out that the experience needed for each level up was higher than he had predicted. Even after killing the last two Black Goblins, the experience bar would mostly stay at 70%. He did not reach Level 4 as he first expected.
Chen Mo’s damage had risen significantly. He was sitting on the boulder. He only needed to toss one more trap to kill the two Black Goblins.
However, Chen Mo suddenly recalled a piece of information about the game that he had stolen previously.
It mentioned that when a Player was fighting against certain monsters that could not respawn, there was a way to let the monster mutate when there was only one of them left!
