“What’s wrong with you?”
Duke Kyar furrowed his brow and cut the ice rope off with a sword in his hand.
However, Descartes, the Demon King, made the ice rope again and tied Isabella and Ifrit together.
Duke Kyar glanced at the ice rope in irritation before scowling at Descartes, who looked just like him.
He should have been surprised that they had the same face, but Duke Kyar’s response seemed calmer than she thought.
Even the Demon King, Descartes, had the same reaction.
They stood there, glaring at each other as if they had done it before.
“Have you sifted tens of thousand magical beasts and crossed the boundary?”
Descartes broke the silence first and flashed him an evil grin.
Duke Kyar slightly raised one eyebrow.
“I killed all of them. It’s annoying that it took me long to cross the boundary because of those magical beasts. Were you the one who released them?” Archduke Kyar asked.
Descartes narrowed his eyes at him. “You killed them all?”
The Demon King started releasing cold air from his body.
“Why? Were they important to you?”
Even Duke Kyar’s body had shivered from Descartes’ power.
“You look pretty good as my clone, but that wouldn’t change that you are fake,” Descartes said derisively as he shot jagged pieces of hard ice toward the Archduke.
An ice shield appeared in front of Duke Kyar in an instant.
Descartes’ ice arrows flew towards Duke Kyar and collided with his ice shields.
Their ice weapons shattered in the air and fell to the ground.
The fight was too intense because both forces were equally strong.
It was hard to tell the winner and loser apart.
“You appeared in my dream, talking about such nonsense. I guess you never changed.” Duke Kyar murmured in frustration.
Descartes smirked.
You shouldn’t have come this far.”
This time, ice blades fell from the ceiling.
Isabella saw them first and shouted, “Look out—”
In an instant, a solid ice barrier formed around Duke Kyar and protected him from danger.
Yet, as the thick surface collided with the ice blades, the entire ice barrier was crushed into powder and disappeared.
Isabella sighed with relief.
Descartes and Duke Kyar’s ice abilities seemed somewhat similar.
Who will overpower the other?
“This is fun.”
Descartes threw his head back and laughed as if he had divined her thoughts.
Something ominous was about to happen.
“I am the ruler in this world. A clone will never, ever beat the real one.”
A thick haze of dark energy came out of Descartes’ body and stretched out to Duke Kyar.
It almost covered the entire space in pitch black.
” I’m not the only one who had the power of ice.”
Duke Kyar increased the distance between him and Descartes to avoid the dark energy, but it moved faster instead.
Now, the dark energy had wrapped Duke Kyar’s entire body, making him drop his sword.
It dragged him toward Descartes.
Isabella couldn’t bear to see Duke Kyar suffer like this.
“Ifrit, please melt this ice rope. You can draw my energy as much as you want.” Isabella whispered low enough that only Ifrit could hear.
She nodded.
A terrible pain came over her.
Her shoulder felt like it was on fire, and Isabella endured it with clenched teeth.
She didn’t want to make a sound.
Isabella suddenly recalled an explanation of Descartes’s ability in the novel her friend had written.
Controlling other people’s minds weakens his concentration, and so does his dark energy.
The previous Demon King gathered the young men and trained them in extreme cruelty so that they could use that specific power.
Many young lads died during the training.
Descartes was the only member of the Demon tribe who had that ability.
He used it to kill the previous Demon King and ascended his throne.
However, Descartes did not like the ability.
Perhaps, it was because it reminded him of death.
Yet, he enjoyed using another ability.
The power of ice.
“I told you not to come here, didn’t I? Now that you’re here, I will make sure you are dead.” Descartes whispered when his dark energy had successfully brought Duke Kyar in front of him.
Descartes flashed Duke Kyar a twisted smile as if he found the situation funny.
Sharp pieces of ice came out of Duke Kyar’s body, but they failed to disperse the black energy surrounding him.
His physical attack failed to break it, too.
However, the ice rope snaking around Ifrit and Isabella’s bodies had melted.
After pondering Descartes’s dark energy, Isabella aimed to snatch Duke Kyar’s sword from the floor.
She wasn’t sure if her strategy would work, but she couldn’t allow Descartes to kill Duke Kyar without doing anything.
Isabella picked up the sword at once and slashed Descartes with her eyes closed.
Descartes failed to avoid Isabella’s surprise attack since he was too focused on the Archduke.
“Argh!”
Isabella had stabbed Descartes in his left leg with the sword.
An agonized shriek burst out of his mouth.
At the same time, the dark energy around Duke Kyar dissipated.
Her plan was a success.
