Chapter 480: 479 Ranran, where are you?
Mo Xiuchen remained silent, merely leading the way. Qin Mu and Luo Haofeng exchanged a glance, trailed after him, and the three of them headed for the elevator together.
Stepping into the elevator, Mo Xiuchen stood like a statue in the confined space. His strikingly handsome features shrouded with frostiness, his eyes churning with unruly emotions.
Luo Haofeng pressed the elevator button and chewed on his lips, trying to say something, but the Qin Mu beside him nudged him with his arm, signaling him not to speak.
He furrowed his eyebrows and obediently closed his mouth.
At this moment, any words were pale and superfluous.
They knew all too well that even though Mo Xiuchen was worried and upset over Wen Ran’s departure, he was not completely irrational. Hence, he knew how to find Wen Ran.
Besides that, what else could they possibly say? Instead of uttering words that might make him even more upset, they might as well let him cool down and give him some time to think.
For a moment, the silence in the elevator was deafening.
**
G City was massive and densely populated. To find someone there was like finding a needle in a haystack.
However, even if it was like finding a needle in a haystack, Mo Xiuchen was determined to find Wen Ran. He had seen Wen Ran get into a taxi from the company’s surveillance footage.
At that moment, his heart leaped into his throat.
His deep gaze held onto Wen Ran’s face—the fair complexion drained of color, her clear eyes devoid of life, all reflected in his dark pupils. Watching her get into the taxi like a soulless body, that look of bewilderment deeply jabbed at his eyes, and his heart.
“Mo Xiuchen, as long as we find this taxi, we will know where Wen Ran went.”
Luo Haofeng explained, but before he finished his sentence, Qin Mu had already pulled out his phone to make a call.
Looking up, Mo Xiuchen glanced at Qin Mu who was dialing a number. He then lowered his gaze, his eyes locked on the taxi in the surveillance footage. From the angle of the camera, he could see the side of her face.
Sitting in the car, she didn’t immediately speak but looked lost and desperate.
His clenched fingers begin to turn white. His tall figure rose abruptly from the chair as the taxi drove away. He rushed out of the security room and hurried to his parking spot.
By the time Qin Mu got in touch with the taxi driver, Mo Xiucheng was already in his car, buckled up, and ready to start the engine.
“Mo Xiuchen, I’ve got him!”
Hearing Qin Mu’s exhilarated voice, Mo Xiuchen immediately rolled down the window and took the phone that was handed to him. His voice was low as he spoke, “Where did the woman who got in your car outside MS Group about half an hour ago go?”
On the other end of the line, amid the honking noises, the person hesitates for a moment before replying, “Half an hour ago? Are you talking about a very beautiful woman…”
“Yes, thank you!”
After listening to the man, Mo Xiuchen calmly thanked him, hung up the phone, and said to Qin Mu outside the window, “Ah Mu, I’m going to the place that the driver mentioned to look for Wen Ran. She got out of the cab there, but she might not be there right now. Please contact Lu Zhiyan and have him check the surveillance cameras on that stretch of road to find out where Wen Ran went.”
“Okay, drive slowly.”
Qin Mu had also heard the taxi driver’s words. Upon hearing Mo Xiuchen’s request, he nodded in agreement.
He drove to the location where her taxi had taken her.
Getting out of the car and standing on familiar streets, a sense of desolation filled his heart. His elongated gaze scanned the surrounding buildings, finally landing on a newsstand nearby.
The image of Wen Ran’s pale face over the phone resurfaced in his mind. At that moment, her eyes were filled with a struggle, doubt, and numerous other emotions. In the end, everything was woven into shadow in her water-like eyes, leaving only a chilling despair and desolation.
His hands hung to his sides, instantly clenching into fists.
The despair in Wen Ran’s eyes, her determination when she left, and the tears she shed… everything felt like a knife stabbing his heart. He felt the searing pain, though there was no visible wound.
**
On the floor of the room, with eyes red and swollen, Wen Ran’s mind was a blank canvas.
…
In just a few minutes, all the months they had spent together since their wedding replayed in her mind like a slideshow. Her tears soaked the newspaper in front of her, blurring the happy image of the two of them intertwined.
She raised her arm and used her sleeve to wipe her swollen and stinging eyes, gently picked up the tear-soaked newspaper. Her delicate fingers traced over the handsome face in the picture. The deep, gentle eyes in the newspaper seemed to be looking at her.
Her hand trembled, and the newspaper suddenly fell back onto the floor.
“Ranran, never leave me!”
A tender whisper sneaked into her ear, filled with a lifetime of affection, making her wish she could exhaust everything just to be good to him.
She thought of something and a pang of pain flashed in her eyes. She took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and shakily pressed down the power button.
She couldn’t just disappear without a trace. Even if she had to leave, she had to make things clear with him.
As soon as her phone powered on, countless alerts poured in—calls and messages, one after another. She didn’t have time to look through them and dialed a set of familiar numbers without needing to recall them.
She stood up from the floor, walked to the French window, and looked outside. Through the blurry window, a familiar figure suddenly appeared.
Her hand shook and the phone almost slipped from her palm.
She immediately took a step back.
She stood behind the curtain, her gaze filled with agony as she looked at the man standing next to the newsstand downstairs.
In such a short amount of time, he had already found his way here.
She could not hear what he was saying to the elderly woman selling newspapers in the newsstand, but her heart ached unbearably.
His phone rang. He immediately reached into his pocket and she could not see his face clearly through the painful tears in her eyes, but she knew he answered the call promptly. His deep voice reached her ears through the signal interference. With it, he brought an array of feelings—joy, worry, anxiety, unrest…
“Ranran, regardless of who you have been talking to or what you have heard, please tell me first where you are. Would you let me see you?”
The tears Wen Ran had been holding back spilled over again at Mo Xiuchen’s words!
She raised her hand to cover her clamped lips so he wouldn’t hear her crying. Her heart was like a raging ocean, the waves coming one after another, threatening to drown her…
Downstairs, Mo Xiuchen’s eyes tightens as he looks around his surroundings, suppressing his unease. His voice becomes softer, more gentle, “Ranran, I know you’re very upset right now. Since you’ve called me, please let me know where you are. I’ll come to you immediately. Okay?”
