Chapter 617: 616 Never leave me
“Chapter 616
Wen Ran had a dream.
This was the first time she had a nightmare while being held in Mo Xiuchen’s arms.
In the past, her nightmares always occurred when Mo Xiuchen was not by her side. In her dreams, she was always confronted with images she couldn’t understand, scenes from her forgotten childhood.
But tonight, she dreamt of neither her childhood nor the torment inflicted on her by Fu Jingyi. She dreamt of her wedding with Mo Xiuchen.
She was dressed in a white wedding gown, a fairytale princess guided by Gu Yan down the aisle towards Mo Xiuchen at the end of the red carpet. The wedding march rang in her ears, and around them were friends and family wishing them well.
At the end of the red carpet, Mo Xiuchen looked heroic and handsome, his gentle smile and doting eyes focused on her.
Just as she approached him and Gu Yan handed her hand to Mo Xiuchen, a gust of wind, carrying a chill, swept past her. The next second, the man in front of her froze.
A gush of blood erupted from Mo Xiuchen’s chest and splashed onto Wen Ran’s white wedding gown, blooming like a brilliant flower in an instant.
Mo Xiuchen’s hand was just inches from Wen Ran’s when he paused because of the sudden incident. A hint of pain flashed across his face as his smile froze.
“Ranran!”
He called her name with all his strength. But before he could say anything else, his hand fell, and his tall body collapsed onto the ground.
Wen Ran stared in shock as Mo Xiuchen fell in front of her. Her mind went blank. All she could see was the bright red blood, and all she could hear was his affectionate murmur in her ear as he used up the last of his strength to call out to her: “Ranran!”
“Xiuchen!”
A cry tore through her ears, like a sharp knife stabbing her heart. As she realized the sound was her own voice, she had already fallen to the ground. She tightly grasped Mo Xiuchen’s hand, and her tears fell onto his silent face.
“Xiuchen, Xiuchen, don’t scare me, Xiuchen!”
“Ranran, wake up, Ranran, wake up.”
A hand gently tapped her face. Wen Ran opened her eyes to see a handsome face right in front of her. She was taken aback for a moment before immediately turning and pressing herself tightly against him.
“Ranran!”
Mo Xiuchen tightened his embrace as his other hand tenderly stroked her back, whispering her name in comfort.
Something scalding and cold rolled down his chest. His heart clenched as Bo Yi pressed his thin lips together. The girl in his arms trembled slightly, her emotions still running high.
He didn’t know what she had dreamt about, but it must have been something terribly heartbreaking.
With this thought, another pang of heartache hit him. After a moment’s hesitation, he gently pulled her from his embrace to look into her eyes glistening with tears, softly asking, “Ranran, what did you dream about?”
Wen Ran bit her lip, seemingly trying hard to calm herself.
But hearing his question, tears uncontrollably rolled down her cheeks. Seeing this, Mo Xiuchen’s eyes instantly sharpened, and his hand quickly reached out to wipe away her tears.
“Xiuchen, never leave me!”
After Wen Ran choked out her words, before Mo Xiuchen could react, she wrapped her arms around his neck, lifted her face, and kissed him.
“Ranran, can you tell me what dream you had?”
Earlier, she had said, never leave her.
Mo Xiuchen should have been happy, at least happier than when Ranran wanted to leave him a while ago. But seeing her distress, he couldn’t bring himself to feel joy. Instead, he felt an immense heartache.
Wen Ran pursed her lips, still tasting his breath. She didn’t answer, but merely extended her hand towards him.
“Ranran!”
As her warm fingertips touched his waist, Mo Xiuchen shivered, instinctively reaching out to hold her hand.
Being as astute as he was, he naturally understood what Wen Ran’s move meant. But in her teary eyes, past the haziness, he saw an emotion he couldn’t decipher.
Wen Ran froze, not anticipating his resistance.
“Ranran!”
Mo Xiuchen dared not reject her any more. If making love could banish her fear and disquieting dream, why not use this means to comfort her? But Wen Ran didn’t continue.
She snuggled in his arms, with her arms tightly around him, looking up at him.
Mo Xiuchen smiled faintly, his gaze tender and soothing as he looked at her – patient and waiting for her to share when she wanted to.
After a few minutes of quiet cuddling, Wen Ran softly spoke, “Xiuchen, let’s have a baby when I get my health back.”
Her eyes were now devoid of tears, replaced by anticipation.
“Okay!”
Mo Xiuchen’s eyes lit up, and he smiled in response. His grip around her tightened slightly. “Ranran, when you’re healthy, we’ll have many, many children.”
Wen Ran laughed, her smile bright and beautiful, “You must keep your promise!”
“Yes, I promise!”
Mo Xiuchen agreed, his tone filled with tender affection.
“Let’s do a pinky promise. No one can break it,” Wen Ran was quick to add, possibly due to the lingering effect of the nightmare, or because she was genuinely anxious for his promise.
Indeed, the feeling of security can’t always be guaranteed through vocal promises. What really comforted her was his constant presence, every single second and every single minute.
She suddenly thought that perhaps Mo Xiuchen felt the same way as she did too in the past few days – constantly on edge, fearing he might not see her the next second.
This thought made her eyes moist again. She grabbed Mo Xiuchen’s hand and forced him to make a pinky promise with her. Just like a child, she intoned, “Pinky swear, or you’ll hang. A vow that stays for a hundred years.”
Mo Xiuchen shook his head with a slight laugh, softly saying, “Ranran, go to sleep.”
Wen Ran nodded, then shook her head. She looked at him pitifully, and in a low voice, she said, “Xiuchen, I dreamt of our wedding just now.”
“Oh? Why were you crying, then?”
Mo Xiuchen’s lips quirked into a small smile. In his eyes, there was a faint touch of happiness. She actually dreamt of their wedding. It seemed that his Ranran was really looking forward to their wedding.
