Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Fusion of Healing Skills! Ants Kill Rats Too!
Translator: Simple MTL Editor: Simple MTL
The [ strengthened fangs ] skill allowed Bates to crush rocks, therefore he could easily dig a cave and make it his home. If he continued to stay in the nest, he would have nowhere to go when he evolved again. The only thing stopping him was the attachment he had developed to the nest. Since his rebirth, it had always protected him.
Inside the nest, there was still that strange worker ant. ‘I wonder if that worker ant will still be able to recognize me with my current appearance?’
Bates sighed and crawled out of the nest. The most important thing now was to continue hunting!
His four attributes and two powerful passive skills made Bates become a top life form among tiny creatures. It also made it easier for him to hunt other beings.
After ten more fights and ten evolution points, Bates would be able to undergo a second evolution!
He knew that as long as he underwent another evolution, his four attributes would increase by one point. Only then would he become a level 1 monster that could live freely in this world!
Continue hunting! Continue eating!
The notification sound in his head rang out, as Bates swallowed the last piece of earthworm meat.
He had finally obtained the last skill fragment! He had finally collected all ten of them!
Excited, Bates opened his second panel.
[ gene points ] : frog gene 7, mantis gene 17, cricket gene 9, grasshopper gene 12, earthworm gene 10, bee gene 2
[ evolution points ] : 5
[ skill fragment ] : heal 10/10
In two days, Bates had managed to walk over 100 meters around the nest, and had killed over a hundred insects and other creatures.
However, other than a mantis that gave him one evolution point, he had not obtained any more evolution points from killing other insects.
He didn’t even gain any skill fragments either.
It was not until Bates encountered a dying frog and used all his strength to kill it, that he received 4 evolution points.
Currently, Bates was powerful enough to succeed in the lowest levels, yet the benefits from killing weak insects were already close to zero. Even the experience gained from devouring corpses was pitifully small. Only by killing creatures that were almost as strong as him, or even stronger, would give him the chance to continue evolving.
After realizing this, Bates did not continue to waste time hunting weak insects. Instead, he turned his target to earthworms.
Only by completing the [ heal ] skill could he start hunting stronger creatures.
“Ding! You have obtained ten skill fragments. Do you want to fuse them together into a full skill?”
When that notification sounded in his mind, Bates didn’t wait for a second, “Fuse!”
Suddenly, all the skill fragments disappeared, and in its place, a new skill appeared on his attributes panel.
[ heal : passive skill. With this skill, both the bleeding and serious injury effects will be reduced, and the healing speed of your wounds will be slightly increased. When there’s enough food, you could slowly heal your wounds by eating. ]
This was another powerful passive skill!
If someone was to ignore Bates’ attributes, and only look at his talents and skills, it would appear a lot more advanced than many official monsters. There was a chance that if he fought one, he might not lose.
‘Next, it’s time to hunt more powerful creatures.’ he thought. He looked at the attributes panel for a while, nodded in satisfaction, and climbed toward the target he had already chosen.
The sky was dark.
The moonlight shone on the earth, and created dappled light across the dense jungle.
Bates lay quietly behind a pile of rocks, a few meters away from the nest. He looked like an exquisite artifact, completely unlike any living creature.
Beside the rock was a small hole.
This hole was the battlefield that Bates had chosen.
In this hole was a rat that had just entered its youth stage!
An ant killing a rat sounded like a joke, but as an Overlord Ant, Bates’ four attributes, along with his three skills, were not inferior to the rat.
As long as he was careful, an ant killing a rat was easily achievable!
Bates thought that if he could successfully kill this rat, he would get at least four evolution points, which would give him the ten points he needed for his second evolution.
Therefore, this fight was totally worth it!
Time passed, and the night became even darker.
The temperature dropped during the night, and tiny droplets of water condensed on Bates’ dark armor. However, Bates didn’t feel anything, and continued to lie on the ground motionless.
After a long time, a quiet sound came from the cave entrance.
Immediately after, a head popped out, and two red eyes the size of kidney beans looked around. If it sensed anything out of the ordinary, the rat would scurry back into the cave.
The rat waited for a few minutes until it was sure that the surroundings were safe, then it carefully crept out of the cave.
This rat was more than ten centimeters long. To humans, it could easily be trampled to death with one foot, but to an ant, it was a giant!
It was impossible not to be afraid, but Bates was confident enough to kill it!
After leaving the cave, the rat paused again before finally letting down its guard. It was ready to begin its daily journey in search of food.
After waiting for hours, Bates seized that moment to pounce out from behind the rock and grab onto the rat’s back! The two-centimeter-long tusk pierced into the rat’s neck. It was torn apart by the strong tusk, and blood flowed out from the wound rapidly.
“Eeeek! Eeeeek!” the rat screamed in horror and struggled desperately. Angry, it opened its mouth and used its sharp teeth to bite at Bates’ armor.
This caused his armor to crack, sending intense pain throughout his body.
But this was the rat’s final struggle.
After biting the rat’s blood vessels, Bates’ fangs continued to attack, gnawing through the rat’s spine!
This killed the rat in a matter of seconds, with the only cost being his cracked shell!
He won!
