Poison-Wielding Fugitive Chapter 39
“But I have heard that they do have a sewer system in place, so please do not worry about it.”
… how can I not?
I doubt their pipes are any good.
And I wished that Arleaf would be a little more embarrassed when talking about stuff like powdering her nose.
‘It appears that this brute wanted to embarrass thee with talk of this coarse subject matter.’
“I’m not sure how to respond…”
Don’t expose me like that, you bastard!
‘There are many advanced technologies from thy world… such as what you would call “washlets”? Thou may possibly be able to recreate it with high enough proficiency in alchemy.’
“Hey… you think we could move on from this topic?”
We just got to a new town; don’t ruin my mood like this. We can talk about toilets later.
I don’t think I can get away from talking about it anyway.
“Alright. Do you think you could refrain from talking about Yukihisa’s private matters as well, Lord Holy Dragon?”
‘I could not help myself. Now I understand that different things are taboo for people of his world.’
Why does it seem like he’s looking down on me?
“Muu?”
Muu tilts his head, not understanding much about our conversation.
You’re still the best for being here for me, Muu.
Arleaf sometimes hurts me with how frank she is.
“This way. Try not to get separated, okay?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Mu!”
We walk through the lively town.
“Come on, take a look!”
“We’ve caught some fresh fish today!”
“How ‘bout some jerky?”
Wow… sure is bustling here.
They even have food stalls nearby. It smells so good.
It feels like we’re walking right through downtown.
We end up right in front of the town hall.
“This is the town hall, or the guild, as some may call it. It’s the largest one around the area, so I think it would be our best bet.”
The town hall in Nisua can’t even compare to this.
It’s quite similar to back home if I had to compare the two worlds. Lots of clerks at lots of reception desks.
This place would be called an adventurers’ guildhall in a tabletop RPG.
Well… the one back in Nisua felt more like a village that would give you lots of quests in a game where you hunt monsters.
Mm, even the bulletin board is correspondingly huge.
Rows and rows of quests are lined up and posted on the board.
A totally different story than the friendly requests in the village.
‘Canst thou not be so condescending to the village of Nisua?’
Hey, don’t let Arleaf hear you.
‘I have adjusted it so that she cannot. Thou wishest not to be vilified, aye?’
Normally, yeah.
Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten our toilet discourse and how you ratted me out.
“It looks like there are all sorts of jobs posted here. Even maps of where monsters are, training halls, taverns, and inns are all listed, so if we ever need something, we can try starting here.”
How convenient.
I look over to find that wanted posters are posted here too.
Needless to say, Veno’s delighted about it.
Lots of monsters are wanted too… oh, it seems like there are really old bounties too.
‘Ah, has he been killed already? Oh, I have already slain that one. Hmm… so that is where this one lives…’
… I don’t think I actually need to respond to any of that.
Thinking back on Elbatoxin though, we should probably avoid any unnecessary use of your mana.
‘Shame. It would have been easy to fill our coffers.’
Oh, and Elbatoxin’s bounty has been stamped over.
“So, what shall we do today?”
“Is there anything right for us?”
“Oh, Yukihisa, look at this one. The location is very close to here.”
I look at the quest Arleaf is pointing to.
Defeat monsters in the sewers
Recently, the number of monsters that live in the sewer system have been increasing.
Exterminate them posthaste.
Paid per monster defeated
Looks like it’s piece work.
The clients are the Merchants’ Guild and the town mayor.
Arleaf carefully studies the information.
“Monsters have been appearing in the sewers lately. It doesn’t seem to be that dangerous, but it has been a spot of bother for the townsfolk.”
‘It looks to be a task for novices.’
“Indeed, and so there must be many people down there fulfilling this quest. But even then, venturing deep in would require precautions against poison.”
Sewer poison? Are the monsters down there pretty venomous?
Well, sewers are filthy, so I get why you wouldn’t want to go.
“Yukihisa, this might be a good chance for us.”
“What do you mean?”
“Because sewage produces toxic gases, exploration may prove to be difficult. Even when equipped with wind magic, one can only do so much about the gases.”
Oh, right. I’ve heard about that in Japan too.
Hollywood movies always portray sewer adventures to be rather dangerous because of the toxic fumes down there.
Sometimes people die in mines too because of toxic gases.
Anyway, I don’t really want to use sewage like I did with swamp water…
Yeah, that’s a no from me. I’m not about to dive head first into sewage.
The mental damage I’d get would be incurable.
No matter how much it might heal me, I won’t be soaking in it either. That’s just messed up!
“Uhh, hmm…”
“The problem would be how difficult the monsters are. If there are powerful monsters there, lots of adventurers would be farming them for the experience…”
Lots of reasons not to go there.
It’s totally a quest for newbies to earn some pocket money.
“Let’s put that aside for now then. There are lots of other good ones to choose from.”
There are all sorts of quests.
For real, though. The magnitude of the number of jobs is totally different in a big town like this.
There are quite a few good ones, even quests that have you harvest like Arleaf does. Simply browsing is lots of fun.
“So, which one shall we do?”
