Chapter 11: Path
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
The so-called Profession Enlightenments are beginner’s books or scrolls that possess various supernatural powers.
Based on Xia Chengfeng’s experience when he played during the closed beta, there were five main paths of professions.
The first was the most common Martial Art Path. It was a path that both enhanced a player’s physical strength and battle techniques.
There were professions such as Swordsman, Knight, Blade Wielder, Archer, and Brawler within the Martial Art Path. A player had to enhance their physical strength if they wanted to go down this path.
Energy crystals were the key to that.
The second path was the Magic Path. It was a path that increased a player’s mental energy and elemental perception ability.
The Magic Path included professions such as Elemental Mage, Battle Mage, Summoner, and Hex Wizard.
Crystals that possess elemental powers and soul rocks were critical in increasing a player’s mental energy and elemental perception ability.
The third path was called Holy Disciple. This path relied on having faith in various deities and obtaining power granted to them by these deities.
And in this path, the professions included Priest, Paladins, Fanatics, and Judges.
Divine statues and holy items were important to players who chose this path, and they could find statues of deities or various holy items in certain caves. These divine and holy items allowed them to communicate with deities and obtain power that way.
The fourth path was Bloodline Successor. Players would inherit a certain bloodline ability and continue to improve that ability.
Players on this path would have to obtain the bloodline of mysterious creatures like those of magic creatures or undead creatures.
The fifth path was called Alchemist. These players strengthened their abilities through the use of alchemy.
Alchemists could be further divided into sub-professions such as Magic Potion Alchemist, Magic Equipment Alchemist, Puppet Alchemist, or Life Alchemist.
Alchemists were typically seen as a side profession. People would often become pharmacists or weapon makers as a side job.
However, Xia Chengfeng knew that Alchemist was a highly underrated path!
Alchemy was the study of the fundamental qualities of all items. Alchemists would use these qualities to strengthen themselves and support their abilities with a variety of items.
In simpler terms, alchemy was the study of the truth behind the Crypt World. Alchemists studied the constitution and rules of this world.
Xia Chengfeng had chosen to become a swordsman during closed beta, and he even became extremely powerful during the later stages of the game.
However, he noticed during a battle with an alchemist in a stage of the game that the upper limit of growth for that profession was even higher! That alchemist had used life alchemy to make his body and soul powerful enough to rival a warrior. His powerful alchemy techniques were not weaker than that of a mage. Furthermore, his variety of elixirs, puppets, and magic equipment allowed him to take on an army alone!
Out of all the buildings in the Crypt World, an alchemist’s alchemy castle was often sturdier and more well-equipped than the buildings of the other professions!
If not for the fact that the alchemist did not have enough time to develop himself back then, Xia Chengfeng might have been the one who lost.
Thus, Xia Chengfeng thought that as long as an alchemist had sufficient resources, their development would not be weaker than that of the other professions!
He had wanted to become an alchemist from the start. An alchemist required large amounts of resources to grow. That was why he chose the Destruction Soul as his magic soul and got the talent of decomposition.
There were a few rare paths aside from the five main paths. For example, Demon Swordsman, Necromancer, Demon Contractor, Dragon Knight, etc.
However, the Profession Enlightenments for these paths were extremely difficult to obtain. Xia Chengfeng did not consider those.
“One Star caves will appear around me in 24 hours. There would undoubtedly be mysterious creatures in One Star caves. They might very likely attack my space bubble. I have to become an alchemist as soon as possible!” Xia Chengfeng had already decided.
He had to increase the pace he was exploring the surrounding caves if he wanted to obtain the Profession Enlightenment for an alchemist.
It would be best if he could purchase it from the trading channel.
However, every survivor required a Profession Enlightenment. Xia Chengfeng thought that it would be hard for him to purchase one. Even if there was one for sale, he would have to trade for it with a Profession Enlightenment of another profession.
“I’ll have to be prepared for battle!” Xia Chengfeng thought to himself.
Before he set off, he started to sort out the resources he obtained from trading his roast meat over the past two days.
Other than the seeds and building material, Xia Chengfeng had obtained 12 [Lv1 energy crystals],11 [Lv1 soul rocks], and 10 earth crystals.
“If I remember correctly, I will have to absorb 10 [Lv1 energy crystals] and 10 soul rocks to become an alchemist.”
An ordinary profession only required either the energy crystal or soul rock. However, alchemists required both at the same time. The condition for being an alchemist was harsher.
Xia Chengfeng used the resources on himself. With his current constitution, he could only use one energy crystal and soul rock every hour.
He used one of each resource. Both his physical energy and mental energy became enhanced.
Then, Xia Chengfeng rested for the night. He felt more at ease as he slept in his wooden hut.
Eight hours passed before he woke up the next day.
Xia Chengfeng ate a few berries and started to open a treasure chest.
He had obtained a common runic treasure chest and a common runic key during the trading yesterday.
“Treasure chest, open!”
The sealing runes on the runic key and runic treasure chest disappeared at the same time. Xia Chengfeng opened the runic treasure chest that was made from a mysterious meta.
There was a set of clothes and a pair of boots in the chest.
[Beast Hide Shirt Lv1] (Quality: Common)—A shirt made out of a beast’s hide. It is engraved with a small number of physical defense runes.
[Beast Hide Boots Lv1] (Quality: Common)—Boots made out of a beast’s hide. It is engraved with a small number of speed runes.
[Beast Trap Blueprints]—Used to create [Beast Trap Lv1].
“Not bad. Two pieces of equipment, and each with attributes,” Xia Chengfeng muttered. He now had three pieces of equipment. However, the materials he had forged his longsword from were too ordinary, and therefore, his longsword did not have any attributes.
Levels were already starting to appear in these items.
In Crypt World, supernatural entities and items were ranked from grade one to grade nine.
Each grade was subdivided into ten levels. So, a grade-one supernatural entity would be Lv1 to Lv10, while a grade-two entity would be Lv11-Lv20. Under normal circumstances, the higher the level, the more powerful the entity would be. It was the same for equipment.
He accessed the system interface. There were already levels in his personal attribute interface.
Name: Xia Chengfeng.
Race: Human.
Level: Lv1.
Profession: Temporarily none.
Equipment: [Exquisite Knight Longsword Lv1], [Apprentice Robe Lv1], [Beast Hide Boots Lv1].
Skills: [Beginner Sword Technique Lv1], [Evil Eye of Destruction Lv1].
There was no detailed information on a player’s strength or mental energy on the interface.
This world had left the realm of game design. A player’s physical condition or mental state would change at any time.
During a critical situation, a person might be able to unleash potential strengths that were many times more powerful than their current abilities. A person might also be killed by a weaker opponent when they were negligent. Anything was possible!
System Notification: Decomposed [Common Runic Treasure Box]. Obtained [Sealing Rune Fragment] x5, metal material x5.
Xia Chengfeng spent the rest of his time absorbing energy crystals and soul rocks to enhance both his strength and mental energy.
In the other space bubbles, the survivors were anxious about the future but were fully committed to dealing with the challenges they anticipated.
Wu Rui and the rest of his subordinates were discussing the matter in the Tianxun Company’s group. “This time, the system informed us that energy crystals and soul rocks are extremely valuable. Unfortunately, the stock on the market had been cleared by the player called “Breeze”!”
“The Profession Enlightenments are extremely important. We will be able to kill cryptic monsters and obtain even more resources if we wield mysterious powers!”
“So, when the One Star caves appear later, those of us with weapons must explore the caves and seize the initiative! We have to strive to be the first people who have a profession!”
Yang Yong was also delegating tasks within the Xingyuan Company’s group. “Gather all the energy crystals, soul rocks, elemental crystals, and Profession Enlightenments as best as you can. Get a move on, all of you!”
“If you don’t become powerful now, we will not be able to save you when the monsters enter your space bubble!”
“This is a grave threat but it also presents an opportunity for us! Let our people strive to become the quickest with a profession!”
In the Sector 2222 Mutual Assistance Association, Chairman Yu Pengfei said, “We are weaker than the rest of the organizations. Therefore, we have to gather our resources and allocated them to a few of the stronger players. Get them to explore the One Star caves and help others after they obtain their professions!”
“Trade your energy crystals and other resources to me first! I’ll allocate them!”
The major factions and other survivors were all preparing for the event that would happen in a few hours.
