“Disaster creatures had never existed in the death realm before. As far as we know, the origin of Disaster comes from the Nether River. One theory suggests that the Hani Clan, in their efforts to overthrow Empress Persephone, summoned the Disaster and allowed it to descend upon the death realm.”
“Actually, our understanding of Disaster is still limited. All we know is that these blood-like, tumor-shaped life forms are one manifestation of Disaster. Destroying them can slow the spread of Disaster.”
“Currently, Disaster is spreading across the death realm, and we are working to block its advance from the north. We hope that the situation can be stabilized in the other four directions.”
The Disaster nests, which were attached to the corrupt land, lacked offensive capabilities of their own. They could only summon Disaster creatures, so under the attack of the Bone Dragons, they exploded one after another.
The undead forces slowly continued to advance.
Fang Heng controlled the Bone Dragons from the rear of the group, listening to Tal’s explanation. His brows furrowed as he looked ahead into the dense black fog.
The deeper they went, the more densely clustered the Disaster nests became.
…
The Nether River.
One of the most dangerous areas of the death realm.
Legend had it that the river’s waters could absorb souls and willpower, exuding a terrifying aura of death. It was also believed to be the birthplace of the entire death realm.
Originally, the banks of the Nether River were a desolate, rotting land.
But now, the corrupt land was covered by countless Nests of Disaster.
Thick black mist spilled out from the Swamp of Perdition and was consumed by the densely clustered Nests of Disaster along the riverbank.
Hundreds of flesh cocoons, each two to three meters tall, pulsed rhythmically near the swamp, seemingly nurturing new life.
Splash… splash… splash…
The water of the Nether River stirred, sending waves crashing across its surface.
A young man with long hair emerged from the water, slowly walking up from the murky depths of the Nether River. As he walked, he spread his arms wide, as if savoring the full strength coursing through his body.
“Proust.”
Not far from the riverbank, a young woman with an attractive appearance stood there, gazing directly at the young man emerging from the mire. A seductive smile played at the corner of her lips. “How does it feel?”
“Very good.” Proust nodded lightly, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. “The strength of the Nether River… it’s wasted on the death realm. Merging it with Disaster will be the perfect use for it.”
He paused for a moment, glancing toward the woman, “Mu Qingxin, does this mean my evolution is complete?”
“Do you think so?”
Mu Qingxin looked at Proust and said lightly, “Completing evolution means you’ve unlocked over 90% of your potential and have fully conquered the native creatures of this world. Do you think you’ve reached that level?”
“I still need some time.”
Proust clenched his fist again, feeling his own strength, and said, “The fusion of the Disaster and the power of the death realm isn’t perfect yet. I need more battles to draw more experience, constantly optimize, and attempt to fuse other modules during combat.”
“Indeed, a single death-based module isn’t enough, especially when dealing with death realm creatures…”
Mu Qingxin agreed, her gaze drifting to the large flesh cocoons twitching at the edge of the Swamp of Perdition.
“Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!!!”
Under Mu Qingxin’s watchful gaze, the flesh cocoons exploded one by one.
Strange, otherworldly creatures emerged from the broken cocoons, their bizarre forms revealing themselves to the open air.
“After all this time fighting, you understand the fusion of Disaster with the power of death better than I do,” Mu Qingxin continued. “These are the modules I’ve gathered; you can make your choice.”
She paused for a moment before adding, “I still want to remind you, though: the higher-tier the ability, the fewer modules can coexist with it. If you’re not careful, the fusion of Disaster might collapse at any moment.”
“I know,” Proust nodded, “I’ll weaken the power appropriately before attempting the fusion of the modules.”
With that, he walked up to a mutant worm standing nearby.
The mutant worm was brown all over, its body covered with a layer of shifting metallic substance.
“Transformed body, SSS-level modification.”
Mu Qingxin walked up beside Proust and continued her introduction, “The body surface is covered with a special metametal. This metal absorbs energy during normal conditions and stores it. In combat, it provides additional defensive boosts and a special division effect. After death, it will continue to divide until all the energy is depleted. The downside is that it cannot coexist with many other abilities.”
“Did you get that from our old foe? It’s a pretty impressive ability.”
Proust sized up the mutant worm and shook his head, “The fusion of Disaster with the power of the death realm has one major characteristic: it can inflict damage and corrosion on souls, along with physical attacks. Oh, and it also has an extremely strong reproductive ability—almost cost-free reproduction…”
“Compared to that, Disaster’s other attributes are quite ordinary. But fusing it with the metametal body will give it a significant boost in defense, making them harder to deal with, and it also increases their reproductive capabilities.”
As he spoke, Proust slowly extended his hand, from which small black flowing tendrils began to spread. The tendrils formed thin strands in the air, reaching out toward the worm emerging from the flesh cocoon.
Hmm?
Proust furrowed his brow slightly, pausing with his hand suspended in the air.
Mu Qingxin glanced at Proust and asked, “What’s wrong? Changed your mind?”
“It’s nothing. Disaster encountered some trouble in the North District,” Proust said, furrowing his brow as he focused on sensing the situation. “It’s the Bone Dragon.”
“Oh?”
“Bone Dragons have the ability to fly. Right now, Disaster can’t counter them. Even with the metametal fusion, it doesn’t help. It’s quite troublesome.”
“If devouring the natives is the goal of evolution, then the metametal fusion is not the right path…” Proust said slowly, his gaze moving toward a cocoon on the right side.
Mu Qingxin lightly snapped her fingers.
“Bang!!”
The cocoon exploded.
A bizarre, hideous creature emerged from the ruptured cocoon.
It was much smaller than the other mutated creatures, measuring only about 0.5 meters long, with multiple wings sprouting from its back.
“SS-level modification. Multi-winged fear worm. It possesses the ability to fly, self-destruct, infect, spawn spores, produce toxins, and parasitize. Its advantage is that the spore infection mode, through mutation, can spread inside enemy bodies, breeding within them, causing a massive blow to enemy morale and having an extremely low cost of reproduction.”
Mu Qingxin’s eyes shifted to the winged creature, continuing her explanation, “Additionally, the multi-winged fear worm is small and fast, capable of rapidly changing its flight mode in midair. Its most common attack method is to get close to the enemy and self-destruct, causing significant damage.”
“After the self-detonation, spores from the explosion will quickly parasitize the enemy’s body. They consume the enemy’s blood and flesh, reproducing within one minute and bursting out from the enemy’s body.”
“The downside is that this parasitic reproduction attack doesn’t work as well on certain creatures, such as mechanical beings and undead.”
