God-level Closed Beta Player - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: Tower of God, New Players Gather
Sun Yuan calmed down upon laying his eyes on the tower; it looked the same in the mobile game.
With the gamification of the world, towers of god appeared worldwide. Their architectural style changes accordingly to blend in with the environment.
For example, the tower of god in Europe would appear like a church while those in Japan would appear as a shrine.
There were countless students and teachers gathered on the field. They had a look of fear on their faces as they didn’t know what fate had in store for them.
Ding Dong!
His phone rang.
Sun Yuan slowed the scooter to a stop and planted one foot on the ground as he took out his phone.
It was a message from Zhuo Wen.
[Are you here yet? We’re on the east side of the basket court, beneath the second hoop. Hurry up, or you’ll risk death for arriving late.]
…
On the basketball court, the students of the 21st class of 2002 from the foreign language faculty gathered to discuss their plans.
“Have you guys gotten food and water?”
Li Wan asked Zhuo Wen. She asked around, but no one had any food.
“No.”
Zhuo Wen sighed, “Don’t mention the food anymore. If it wasn’t for Sun Yuan’s help, we would have already been implanted by the spore monsters.”
“Wu wu wu, I shouldn’t have gone on a diet. I haven’t eaten anything since last night.”
Wang Shan sobbed.
She had an average face and an average height. But because she was a little chubby, she hadn’t dated in her three years of university life.
“Who would have thought that the low-key Sun Yuan was so powerful!”
Wang Xu added fuel to the fire and reiterated how Chu Yuntao wanted to rob Sun Yuan but was robbed instead. “I feel that he must have trained before and should be a disciple of a martial arts sect.”
“Since he is that strong, he should have gotten some food, right?”
Zhou Ze rubbed his stomach. He usually eats a lot but had already skipped two meals so far; he was starving.
“No idea, but he shouldn’t be lacking food.”
Whenever Wang Xu was worrying about food, he thought of Sun Yuan bringing the beautiful streamer around to fight spore monsters; he felt like a loser.
“Even if he has food, do you have the face to ask him for it?”
Lu Wenjun muttered, “In our current situation, a piece of bread can probably get you a beautiful girl for the night.”
“You guys can go apply to be his girlfriend.”
Zhuo Wen quipped.
In the past, the girls would have sneered and booed.
Their criteria for a boyfriend were either a civil servant or a state-owned enterprise employee. They must also have a local account with a house and a car.
No matter what, the salary must exceed 10,000 yuan, right?
Can Sun Yuan achieve that upon graduation?
Hence, even someone like Lu Wenjun didn’t find him worthy, but now…
Sun Yuan might be the one who found them unworthy.
Realizing his words brought down the atmosphere, Zhou Wen felt awkward. Luckily, he spotted Sun Yuan when he raised his head and instantly waved and called out.
“Sun Yuan, we’re here!”
Swish!
Everyone turned and saw Sun Yuan riding his scooter over with Shen Jingran by his side.
“Why are the two of them together?”
Li Wan muttered unhappily.
“F*ck!”
Zheng Chun, who was smoking and squatted by the side, spat and stood up. Just as he was about to greet them after touching his Rolex, he saw a beautiful girl jumping off from the seat behind Shen Jingran.
She was in a high school uniform and gave off a youthful and vibrant aura.
Even if she were to stand within a crowd, she would be the most eye-catching person.
“Nangong Yu’er?”
Zheng Chun exclaimed and walked over with a smile, “Jingran, I didn’t expect you to know such a big streamer.”
“I don’t!”
She replied coldly.
“What?”
Zheng Chun was stunned. Why did they arrive together then?
Could it be…
He turned towards Sun Yuan.
“Good afternoon to all my seniors. I am senior Sun Yuan’s little sister; please take care of me in the future!”
Zhen Yu took the initiative to greet everyone.
She fully exhibited her social skills developed as a streamer to integrate into the group as soon as possible.
“Little sister?”
Zhou Ze was momentarily stunned but grew joyful, and reached out to hug Sun Yuan by his shoulder, “My good uncle, I’m definitely making you my friend.”
“Don’t listen to her nonsense. We’re not siblings.”
Sun Yuan replied helplessly.
“Then why is she following you?”
Zhou Ze was puzzled.
All the boys were curious too. Anyone who had watched Shark TV would know Zhen Yu; for those who didn’t, they would have at least heard of her nickname. After all, she is a big streamer.
“I’m following senior because he saved me!”
Zhen Yu plainly explained.
“…”
Zheng Chun was very annoyed; why did Sun Yuan chance upon all the good stuff?
And why was Shen Jingran together with him?
Did they arrange to meet?
Or was it purely coincidental?
Goddamn it!
I’m dying to know what happened!
Even though Shen Jingran wasn’t his girlfriend, Zheng Chun felt as if he was cucked. He was NTRed like in Korean webtoons.1
“We’ll soon be challenging the tower; who is ready to fight?”
Shen Jingran wanted to take a headcount.
Everyone maintained silence as they glanced around and fixed their gazes on Sun Yuan.
“Sun Yuan, are you challenging the tower?”
Fear could be heard in Li Wan’s voice.
“Yes.”
He didn’t hide anything, “In the early stages of the game, the tower of god shouldn’t be too difficult; the games within should be the easiest it could be. If you don’t go now and earn some rewards, it will be much harder on you in the future.”
“Is there a possibility of death?”
Wang Shan interjected.
“Yes!”
Even without his confirmation, everyone had already guessed that was the case.
“Why don’t we form a party together? That way, we can look out for one another?”
Zhou Ze suggested, “Sun Yuan, how about you be our leader?”
Zheng Chun was infuriated to the point of puking blood.
Whenever there were any class activities, the responsibilities usually fell upon him and Shen Jingran. When did anyone care about Sun Yuan?
They were clearly trying to hug Sun Yuan’s thigh.
“I agree!”
Wang Xu agreed but noted that many people chose to maintain silence.
Although they were classmates, they weren’t close with everyone; they mostly stuck to their own cliques. Their relationship was at a level where they could lend 100 yuan if asked, but that was the limit.
If you asked for 1,000 yuan, you would probably be rejected.
Now that their life and death were tied to the tower of god, who dares to be sloppy in their decision?
They would definitely group up with those they trust.
Vroom! Vroom!
The roar of an engine could be heard coming from the distance.
Turning their heads, everyone spotted a young man in Nike sportswear with a blue helmet speeding on a green motorbike.
Hugging his waist from behind was a female student in a black leather skirt and a tight-fitting top that showed off her figure.
What caught everyone’s eyes was the AK assault rifle slung on her back. It seems to have dropped from a spore monster.
What a gun.
“It’s the Tang Yan siblings!”
Lu Wenjun stared excitedly at the guy in sportswear.
He was one of the four princes of Gu Cheng university. His charms and attractiveness qualified him to debut in a boy group should he choose to. Hence, he had a lot of female fans.
On the flip side, the boys were captivated by Tang Tang.
But no one dared to pursue her.
Disregarding her temper, her family background was enough to crush their hopes and dreams.
The green motorbike Tang Yan rode was the Kawasaki H2R; it was priced above 700,000 yuan. It was rumored to be a modified model meant for races and didn’t qualify for a license plate.
Strictly speaking, it was the type of bike where one would be stopped by the police, but that doesn’t seem to apply to Tang Yan.
The Tang Yan twins held the most fame in Gu Cheng university.
Sun Yuan had heard of them and even seen them twice from a distance; they were very attractive. But they had never interacted due to the difference in status.
…
As everyone was guarded against the tower of god, there was nobody within 50 meters radius.
However, the Tang Yan siblings were brave enough to stop the motorbike at the foot of the tower.
“It doesn’t seem to be open yet.”
Many girls had their eyes lit up when he took off his helmet to reveal his handsome face.
“When can we challenge the tower? I can’t wait anymore!”
Tang Tang was fired up and ready to go.
“You want the first kill?”
Tang Yan took out his iPhone and looked through WeChat, “Zhao Jike asked if we wanted to team up.”
“No, I’m afraid of getting stabbed in the back by that scheming dog.”
Keeping the helmet on, she looked up at the tower; she hated being watched, “I want the glory of the first kill!”
“I’m more interested in the rewards for achieving the first kill.”
Tang Yan swept his gaze across the field before looking back to his phone, “Chu Yuntao was floored by a kid called Sun Yuan. He even lost two pieces of equipment. He’s a strong competitor that we need to be wary of.”
“Serve him right!”
Tang Tang sneered as she didn’t have any good impression of Chu Yuntao.
“Should we go greet this Sun Yuan and get a feel of him?”
Tang Yan suggested.
“No need. We’ll naturally meet Sun Yuan if he is part of the first wave to challenge the tower. Otherwise, there is no worth in meeting a coward!”
Tang Tang took out and handed an energy bar to her elder brother, “Keep your energy up. We’re claiming the first kill.”
…
“Tang Tang actually got an AK!”
Shen Jingran was envious.
“So what if she has an AK? I can finish her off with three bird projectiles!”
Zhen Yu muttered as she rubbed her Angry slingshot.
“Jingran, which one is Sun Yuan?”
A guy in square-framed glasses asked as he walked up to Shen Jingran.
“Chairman Zhou, what business do you have with him?”
She revealed a smile as she replied.
Zhou Kai was the chairman of the student union of the foreign language faculty. He was someone who was passionate about student rights and emphasized bureaucracy.
“It’s vice department head Cui who is looking for him.”
Zhou Kai was satisfied with how she addressed him, “Who’s Sun Yuan? Follow me?”
“Don’t go.”
Zhou Wen, by Sun Yuan’s side, quietly whispered to him.
“Why not?”
He frowned and had a sense of foreboding.
“We were forced to donate 300 points to him just now.”
Zhuo Wen didn’t want to give away his points, but Cui Xueren was the vice department head of the youth league committee. How would the students dare refuse his orders?
“Sun Yuan, didn’t you hear chairman Zhou calling for you?”
Zheng Chun deliberately spoke out to drag Sun Yuan into the spotlight.
“You’re Sun Yuan?”
Following Zheng Chun’s line of sight, chairman Zhou found Sun Yuan, “Come with me. Don’t keep vice department head Cui waiting.”
His arrogant tone displeased Sun Yuan and he simply ignored the call.
“Hey…”
Zhou Kai was unhappy and reached out to push him.
Pah!
Sun Yuan slapped the hand away. “Don’t touch me.”
“Let me repeat myself; vice department head Cui is looking for you.”
Zhou Kai shouted.
“And?”
Sun Yuan calmly replied, “I don’t feel like going.”
“Do you want to have your points deducted?”
Zhou Kai threatened.
Raising his foot, Sun Yuan kicked Zhou Kai in the stomach, and he fell on his butt, “I hate being threatened the most, and the points deduction is too light for a punishment. You should just expel me.”
“You just wait and see…”
Zhou Kai was furious and wanted to retaliate but stopped himself and hurriedly left when he determined that it was an unwinnable battle.
“Bah, you son of a b*tch!”
Zhou Ze cursed.
Zhou Kai was handed his seat as chairman only because he was good at currying favors with others.
“All of you had 300 points taken by Cui Xueren?”
Sun Yuan was flabbergasted when everyone nodded at his question, “Points are the greatest power in this world. 100 points can get you enough food to last a week.”
“It’s that valuable?”
The starving Li Wan and Wang Shan were livid when they heard how valuable points were.
“F*ck, how did Cui Xueren know our class had a lot of points?”
Lu Wenjun cursed.
“You’ll have to ask Zheng Chun.”
Sun Yuan turned towards him.
“W-Why would you ask me?”
Zheng Chun was feeling guilty.
“Zhou Kai came as soon as I arrived. If there wasn’t someone informing him, how was his timing so impeccable?”
Sun Yuan sneered, “Since you’re the one who hates me the most, who else could it be but you?”
“You’re slandering me!”
Zheng Chun cussed, but he was the one who leaked the information.
As a silver spoon, he could afford to give Cui Xueren a generous gift in exchange for a spot on the student union; that was how their relationship started.
Noticing that Cui Xueren was forcing students to donate points in the name of challenging the tower, Zheng Chun decided to sell his class out.
He received 1,000 points in return.
Only a fool would reject such a good deal.
“It must be you who betrayed the class!”
Zheng Chun retorted.
“Why did he come to find me then?”
Sun Yuan asked in return.
“I can testify that I have been with senior the whole time, and he didn’t meet or call Cui Xueren.”
Zhen Yu raised her hand and spoke.
“How can you testify for him when you’re on his side?”
Zheng Chun emphasized.
Without evidence, it was difficult to discern the truth.
The class atmosphere turned awkward because they didn’t know the traitor’s identity.
Fortunately, it was time to gather.
A black cube suddenly teleported above the turf field, crackling with electricity.
It was much bigger than before. It was as though a hill was hanging in the sky; it was visually oppressive.
“Let me welcome all of you onto my stage. With your blood and life, let’s put on a grand performance!”
Silver Trojan’s voice reverberated throughout the campus.
