Before arriving at River Park, Jiang Sheng reluctantly put on his mask. His plans to show some public display of affection went down the drain—he couldn’t help it since his wife demanded he did so. He muttered, “Why the dress-up if you’re seeing Jack?”
Ning Xue’s noble face tilted to his side. “What did you say?”
“Nothing, my dear—not to worry. I’ll sit by the window later. I won’t be a disturbance.” Though jealousy was almost eating him up, he still had to show his unselfishness. He went around to her right, took her bag, and gently pushed the door open.
Inside the restaurant was a young man crossing his legs, sipping coffee, while his eyes fixed on the computer screen in front of him. He wore a plain suit, but it didn’t look shoddy on his tall physique—it made him look clean-cut and handsome.
Seeing that Ning Xue had arrived, Jack’s eyes lit up. “There you are, sis.” His voice wasn’t low and magnetic like Jiang Sheng’s but clear and pleasant. It matched his charisma—the way he smiled was just warm like the sun.
With her bag, Ning Xue sat down across Jack. It was only then Jack noticed the man behind her. He raised his eyebrows and teased, “Yo, I didn’t think you’d be here.”
It was hard for Jiang Sheng to be inconspicuous. Jack must’ve seen him the minute he walked in, and now he was ridiculing him. Heh. He wasn’t that petty, bickering with a kid—Ning Xue belonged to him anyway. He nodded before marching straight to the window seat.
Jack let out a smug smile.
Ning Xue couldn’t care less about the two childish men. She had a lot on her mind. “What’s happening? They haven’t found anything yet, right?”
“Here.” Jack pushed the laptop and turned the screen to face her.
With only one glance, she started hitting the keys on the laptop.
The hostess came over to serve their food, and unintentionally, she peered at the screen—it was full of numbers and symbols that she couldn’t understand at all.
Jack pulled out a stack of dollar bills from his wallet and passed it to the waiter with a charming smile.
The hostess had wanted to step away once she finished her task, but she remembered—her customer was wealthy, being able to book out the whole venue. When she took away their coffee cups in exchange for Champagne glasses, she feigned leaning close to Jack, revealing the alluring view of her chest.
Ning Xue caught a glimpse of the scene from the corner of her eyes and uttered coldly, “I don’t want to see any of your tricks again.”
The waitress trembled before uttering a few “sorry”s. Seeing that Ning Xue had no intention of pursuing her responsibility, she hurried away.
“Don’t you know how to dodge?”
“Phew, sis. You were so cool back there. I love watching you being overprotective.”
“…”
“I know you did that because you wanted her to stay away from Jiang Sheng, but still.”
“…”
When the room went dead silent, Jack quickly changed the topic. “Let’s get down to business. The Chief is currently on vacation in the Maldives. You know him. He has always hated using electronics during a holiday, so this time, we can only sort this out on our own.”
“I don’t need his help. Let him enjoy his holiday.” Ning Xue grabbed a piece of white paper from her bag. It was custom made—after writing on it, it requires a unique substance to make the ink appear. She wrote a few lines on it, concise. And in less than three seconds, it disappeared. “Give this to K—he’ll know what to do. Now isn’t the right time for me to reach him.”
K was a code name, his gender, name, age, and appearance unknown. Five years ago, he was as notorious as the mysterious international hacker—J. Back then, there was a terrorist attack in California in the United States targeting students. It was a cybercrime—by hacking into the school’s network system and sabotaging surveillance cameras, the terrorists managed to plant bombs underneath the classroom building, causing massive explosions. It caused an uproar in the country, the internet outraged.
While the police were at their wit’s end, a hacker appeared out of thin air, hacking the psycho and getting his IP address. It was then that law enforcement apprehended the culprit.
There was very little information about K, and even when Interpol never stopped their investigation on him, they couldn’t find out his true identity..
