After waiting until Tang Qianmiao’s figure was out of sight, Lin Wenyu then said helplessly, “My cousin grew up in the mountains and is used to behaving in an unrestrained manner. You can see that in how she is now, not obeying anyone. Over the years she’s also developed some minor problems. At home, these things don’t matter, given my parents and I understand her. But we do worry that she does the same outside of the family. It will only disadvantage her in the end.”
Upon hearing this, Feng Can looked at her and replied, “I’ve always been curious… how did she end up living in the mountains for more than ten years?”
Lin Wenyu looked as though she was about to say something, then she halted and bit her lip again. “I’m not too sure either. By the time I arrived, she was already not living at home. But I’ve heard our older servants say that Cousin has acted strangely ever since she was a child, and she has always had poor health. Dad was superstitious and hence went along with the Master’s suggestion to send her to the temple to be looked after so that she could grow stronger and healthier.”
A look of realization came over Feng Can. He nodded and said, “I see. But she was there for a long time.”
Lin Wenyu sighed as she walked on, “Exactly. After such a long time having grown up this way, it’s going to be impossible to change her.”
For some reason, Feng Can felt something amiss and said, “Is she that bad though?”
Once again, Lin Wenyu sounded rather helpless as she said, “Before she came home, she used to fight and create trouble there. She would even smoke and drink. My Mom had to take time out every week to look after her when she had hangovers. That aside, what I really don’t understand is her habit of stealing. But that’s something she can’t change. I heard from the doctor that it’s a psychological issue. It’s almost like a compulsion, it’s hard to shake off.”
She put on a worried expression as she looked at Feng Can. “Ah Can, I feel that it’s better for you to keep a distance from my cousin in the future. Apart from those things, she likes to get into mischief. Who knows when she’ll decide to make you her target? Whatever it is, perhaps it’s better if you stay away from her, it can’t be a bad thing for you.
“The reason I’m here today is to make sure she’s not creating trouble. Sigh… I was so worried last night that I couldn’t get to sleep. I don’t know why my Aunt insisted that she should stay with the Fengs. If she were staying with the Tangs, I’d do my best to put her back on the right track.”
Feng Can kept silent, feeling rather surprised. He certainly didn’t think that Tang Qianmiao was such a person. Given that his family had taken her in, wouldn’t that just mean they had brought trouble onto themselves?
Lin Wenyu noticed the frown in his expression and secretly smiled to herself.

On the other side.
Just as Tang Qianmiao parked her mountain bike, the final bell rang. She made her way steadily to the third-year teaching block. A look of satisfaction was on her face as she reached up to touch her new noise cancellation earphones.
For some reason, she felt compelled to send a text message…
[Tang: I got it now. They’re quite comfortable and outperform the previous pair by far.]
[Number Three: I will continue to develop better models.]
[Tang: (Pats head) This model is great, there’s no residual noise. It makes things seem normal and I don’t hear any distractions. You’re great, you’ve certainly improved.]
After a few seconds, an “okay” came back in reply.
Tang Qianmiao smiled faintlyーshe could already imagine the introverted and shy man with his slightly-lowered head.
Purring away her cell phone, she walked up the stairs.
There were a total of 23 classes in the third-year cohort. Among them, the first three classes were made up of the top students; the last three classes were made up of the “laggards”, which also meant the ones who didn’t do too well. The rest of the classes were the normal classes.
It was noisiest on the first floor hence the laggards were placed there. The normal classes were found on the second to the fourth floors, and the top-ranked classes were situated on the fifth floor. The teachers’ offices were located on the sixth floor.
Every two months, a rotation of classes would take place. It just meant that those who made it to the top 100 positions would be rotated into one of the top three classes, and those who fell behind among the last 100 would be rotated into the bottom lagging classes, the rest would remain in the normal classes.
Tang Qianmiao was in Class 18, which was located on the third floor. Not wanting to fight for the elevators, she made her way to the third floor very quickly. The front door of the classroom was just around the corner.
She walked in.
The unusual silence made her look up. When she did, she was greeted by more than twenty pairs of eyes staring back at her. Then, her eyes fell on her desk.
It was a mess.
