Xue Ying pulled a long face and replied, “This child Tang Qianmiao, she’s taken leave again. What a headache.”
“Again? Tsk, this child is not doing well in the first place. If she doesn’t put in more effort, how is she going to pass her exams? I heard that she even got into a fight. What happened?”
Having been hit where it hurt the most, Xue Ying fell silent. Then she took her water bottle and left.
After so many years of leading numerous classes, she had never been criticized. And now, over Tang Qianmiao’s matter, she had been called up to the principal’s office and given a good talking to. Just thinking about this upset her greatly!
Lin Wenyu was taking the class assignments to the teacher’s office when she overheard the conversation between the two teachers. She waited till Xue Ying left before she asked her own teacher, “Teacher, did Tang Qianmiao really get into a fight? Was she injured?”
The female teacher took the assignments from her and replied casually, “She was the one who started the fight, what sort of injury could she possibly suffer? Rather, it was Lu Wanyu, the girl beaten up by her, who ended up in the hospital. It was so traumatic for the teacher-in-charge that she cried.
Lin Wenyu rolled her eyes in response. “Really? I didn’t think that she’s such an uncouth girl.”
The teacher sighed and said, “You can’t judge a book by its cover. I’ve heard that even before transferring to our school, she was already a problem child. Sigh… How nice would it be, if only all the students were as well-behaved and love learning as much as you do.”
Lin Wenyu smiled faintly. There was something in her eyes that gave away the emotions she was feeling.
Before heading back to the Tang residence in the afternoon, she dropped by the shops to pick up Tang Yi and her mother’s favorite desserts.
This was a shop with more than a hundred years of history and the queue was always long. It was common for all the items there to be sold in limited quantities.
Tang Yi was home when she got back, and when he saw she had bought the desserts, he gave a rare smile and nodded.
When the three-month pregnant Yun Ruyi saw this, she sat down as she placed a hand on her slightly swollen belly. “Hubby, Wenyu is such a considerate child. To think that she went to queue for these desserts knowing that I like it. Look, she hasn’t even had a drink since she returned home.”
Tang Yi glared at the servant standing by the side and said, “Go and prepare some sugar water for Young Mistress. Go now.”
The servant hurried off.
But Lin Wenyu merely pursed her lips and didn’t look the least bit happy.
When Yun Ruyi saw her reaction, she asked with great concern, “Xiaoyu, what’s wrong? Are you upset over something?”
Lin Wenyu shook her head and sighed.
Tang Yi set his dessert aside and asked, “Speak up if something is troubling you. Don’t keep it all inside. It will do you no good.”
Lin Wenyu looked troubled as she twisted the fabric of her school skirt and whispered, “Cousin… fought with someone in school. I’m just worried about whether she got into trouble with someone.”
“Fought?!” Yun Ruyi was shocked.
Tang Yi immediately looked displeased.
“Dad, shall we send someone to investigate what Cousin has been up to lately? I’m concerned that she might be hanging out with the wrong company.”
Tang Yi pulled a face and after a moment, asked again, “Did the school call?”
Yun Ruyi replied, “No… I think… the school might not have our home contact number.”
Tang Yi looked slightly relieved although he still sounded annoyed, “This useless girl, what else does she know besides fighting?!”
“Dad, what’s happened with Sister?”
A delicate voice of a young boy suddenly came from the doorway. A boy of eight or nine walked in. He was dressed in a military-style camouflage shirt.
Tang Yi’s expression lightened up. “Go and wash your hands now that you’re home, then come and have some dessert that your sister bought.”
Yun Ruyi got onto her feet as well and smiled at the little boy. “Heng’er, you’re back. Was bootcamp fun?”
Tang Qianheng ignored her. He clutched his backpack and walked up to Tang Yi and asked again, “Dad, what’s happened with Sister?”
