Chapter 34
When Daisy gave her permission, Luciana smiled broadly. She was timid at first, but her steps were lighter than ever as she approached Jeffrey.
Whoosh!
Jeffrey made a light sound as he swung her around.
“Where do you want to go?”
“….F-Forward.”
“Huh? Where?”
At Jeffrey’s question, Luciana glanced and looked at Daisy. As soon as Daisy nodded, Luciana exclaimed louder than before.
“I want to go forward!”
“Okay! Whoosh!”
Jeffrey acted like he was lazy, but he was eager to play with Luciana.
“Where should I go this time?”
Again, Luciana expressed herself only after Daisy nodded to her.
‘Am I a vending machine for permission? You’ve been asking me all the time!!’
Daisy immediately vowed to herself.
‘I will forever be your vending machine!!’
Daisy focused more strength into her crossed arms. Soon, she spoke quietly in a voice filled with warning that rang only between her and Carlyx.
“You should follow them. Playing airplanes.”
“I said no.”
“Then learn with your eyes. You’re smart, so you can at least do that much, right?”
“I said I won’t do it.”
“If you learn that, you can become the best daddy ever.”
Lively River and excited Luciana. Daisy wanted to see such a beautiful scene again.
“The best daddy. If you do well, I’ll prepare a trophy for you.”
Carlyx looked away even though he knew he wouldn’t do anything like that. But unlike his gesture, his amethyst eyes carefully observed the actions of Jeffrey and Logan.
And then he spoke dryly.
“Don’t expect a useless thing.”
The dinner preparation was amazing. Daisy looked satisfied because it was exactly as she had imagined after checking the menu in the morning.
There was nothing to complain about if the servants maintained such a great performance until they left the mansion.
“Wow. I still can’t believe that this place is Marquis Jean’s residence.”
Logan muttered as he checked out the appetizing food. The interior did not change that much, but everything looked different in his eyes.
Sitting next to him, Carlyx cut a piece of meat and responded tartly.
“You must have a problem with your judging ability. Go see a doctor!”
“That’s not what I’m saying!”
“Then it’s even more problematic. You probably don’t even realize that there’s something wrong with you.”
“More importantly, is everything going well recently, huh?”
Logan squinted his eyes playfully as he whispered words that only Carlyx could hear.
Carlyx did not even spare a glance at Logan and opened his mouth.
“Don’t waste your time and eat. Quickly finish your meal and get out of here!”
“I get it, you punk! Don’t worry, I’ll give you a present before I leave.”
Logan winked and smiled broadly at Daisy. Soon, he hummed and drew a heart shape with his fingers, directing his gesture to Carlyx.
‘What the hell is he doing?’
It was such an unpleasant sign.
At that time, Jeffrey took a sip of wine and asked.
“I heard you have a fighting match tomorrow. Are you fighting against Sir Logan?”
“With me? No way.”
Logan pointed at himself as if it was ridiculous. The hand slicing the thick meat slowed down.
Smiling whimsically, Logan put down his knife.
“Do you have anyone else to fight with other than me? Who is that gentleman? Let me know, too.”
Now Jeffrey also stared at Carlyx curiously. There was a glint of anticipation in his eyes. Because he had never had a match with Carlyx.
Breaking the silence, Daisy and Carlyx said at the same time.
“It’s a match against Commander Xandarvan.”
“He’s going to fight against Sir Xandarvan.”
“Wha- really? Wow! Hasn’t it been a long time?” Logan exclaimed.
Logan served under the same order as Carlyx before Carlyx became the knight commander.
Jeffrey’s jaw dropped slightly when he heard the familiar name. His face showed expectation rather than regret.
A match between Xandarvan and Carlyx. Watching the match would be a great way to learn.
“Are you saying that such an arrogant person is willing to come? Is that possible?”
“I’m curious about that, too.”
Carlyx, busy slicing meat, turned his gaze toward Daisy. Logan and Jeffrey also turned toward her.
It wasn’t Carlyx who requested a match, but Daisy did? Both of them looked at Daisy in disbelief.
Daisy gently answered.
“I didn’t say much. I’m sure Sir Xandarvan wanted to have a match against an amazing knight like Carlyx. I simply triggered it to happen.”
“So, what exactly did you do?”
“Carlyx often says that he wanted to have a match against Sir Xandarvan. So the two of us placed a bet on the match.”
“…And?”
“I’m betting on Carlyx winning the match and vice versa.”
“Winning against Xandarvan? You’ve never won before, right?”
Logan asked leisurely, his finger tapping the table. Then Carlyx nodded calmly.
“Never. Not even once. I fought hundreds of times when we were in the same order, but I’ve never won. But, is that all about the bet?”
“No. If you win, we will have a congratulatory toast with Sir Xandarvan.”
“How reckless.” Carlyx said.
Jeffrey and Logan seemed to agree with him. Daisy only chuckled quietly.
“Well, just like you said before, it’s actually something that is unlikely to happen.”
Inviting Xandarvan meant inviting an important outsider to the mansion. This was an important step to earn the attention of the high society and also a card to dispose of the servants.
“I highly doubt that Xandarvan wants to eat here. Whether I win or not.”
“Which is why I provoked him on purpose. If he loses after receiving such a letter, he will be forced to enter the mansion in order to keep the courtesy as a knight.”
Carlyx’s expression soon returned to its original dour state.
“You really have a lot of ideas.”
Instead, he sighed and shook his head.
“Still, there’s no change in my opinion. I’m sure we won’t have a toast tomorrow.”
“Puhahaha! Did you really say you wanted to have a toast with him? With his personality, Xandarvan surely won’t be able to ignore it.”
Logan laughed cheerfully. He looked at Daisy who was drinking her wine calmly.
The more I see of her, the more amazing she is!
“He has never received such a rude request for a fighting match, and his pride wouldn’t let him stay still. Since the Marquis’ wife, who is not even a knight, declared that Carlyx would win.”
At the end of Logan’s speech, Jeffrey added.
“If I were you, I’d bet on ‘commander will win’.”
“I’m sorry, I love you. But I’ve seen you lose hundreds of times so clearly. So I’ll bet on ‘Carlyx will lose’.”
Logan spoke to Carlyx and lifted his glass high.
“But I still have to cheer for you. Cheers for Carlyx winning the match!”
Daisy did the same thing when everyone was having a toast. When everyone was about to shout ‘cheers’, Luciana lifted her glass with both hands.
“I vote for ‘Daddy will win’.”
“I will vote for Whitey will win, too! Because Whitey is so strong!”
River swallowed what was in his mouth and raised his hand. His tiny fist went up in the air without holding a glass.
Clink-!
Four glasses made a clinking sound. Daisy touched her glass to Luciana’s cup and River’s fist.
“Four people votes for ‘Whitey wins’. Two votes for ‘Whitey loses’!”
“Stop talking about Whitey!”
“Since when did you become Whitey? Then, because I’m your exclusive sparring partner, does that mean I become Blackie?”
Carlyx didn’t reply as if he was exhausted. In an unusually crowded dining room, it seemed like Logan was enjoying this moment the most.
That night, Carlyx received Logan’s gift through Tyler. In the packed box, there was a nightgown that was quite revealing.
Carlyx instructed Tyler to dispose of it without hesitation.
It’s finally here.
The day when Xandarvan visited the marquisate for a fighting match with Carlyx. And Daisy would lay a trap for the servants.
All preparation was complete. Tyler already hired an avaricious journalist, so all she needed to do was act.
‘I can do this.’
Daisy blinked vacantly, staring at the white ceiling as she lay in bed. Her thoughts were about what she must do tomorrow.
‘I should just look at the pictures drawn by the children last time’
At that time, she saved the drawings thinking that she would preserve them as an heirloom and keep them in a drawer.
Daisy rose from the bed, walked to the highboy and opened the drawer. But she was stunned while opening the first and second drawers.
She couldn’t take her eyes off the bandages in the first drawer. Carlyx had not been injured recently, and he never used it for the children either.
But the bandage supply had decreased.
‘…Don’t tell me. When I injured my knee, was it Carlyx who treated me?’
Daisy shook off her thought. He might have been injured and used it for himself.
When she was about to gloss it over, she suddenly remembered what Logan said.
He’s not interested in anything. It doesn’t make sense, but it is what it is.
Daisy lifted the hem of her one-piece loungewear to her knees. For the first time, she examined the bandage closely.
‘It was Carlyx.’
He tied it the same way as he had with her wrist in the past.
‘Why would you treat my wound when we were fighting so fiercely before? Should I say that you did more than necessary?’
He was such a weird person.
She thought their relationship was full of resentment. Now, there was a faint hope that they would get along better.
With a satisfied smile, Daisy closed the first drawer.
