Chapter 2: New Strange Knowledge

Ke Meng felt his neck go stiff. He turned his head slowly to the left.
On the floor was the black cat basin that he saw in the dream on the floor. There was a strange, white, plump cat in the basin.
Its eyes were round, and it was covered in white fur. Its feline ears were standing straight while it meowed without even opening its mouth. It had a strange voice that echoed in his head.
Indeed, it was the cat that he had seen in the dream. The fanatics had placed it in the basin, and they sent it to Ke Meng through the ceremony.
The cat had no idea what happened at all. It stared blankly at him as if it was terrified by an evil god.
Meanwhile, Ke Meng was shocked by what he had experienced earlier as he realized that his dream was real.
‘So, what should I do now?’ Ke Meng felt his head go blank. He was a little worried that this cat would go insane and kill him.
Fortunately, the cat seemed dumb. Its eyes were empty, and it did not look aggressive.
It sat in the basin with its body straightened a little. Its tubby cat paws were placed on both sides of its waist while it stared at Ke Meng blankly.
As Ke Meng was taking a good look at the cat, his expression became rather strange.
This cat looked like the MUR cat meme on the internet.
Among those memes, the lines that he remembered were:
“Strange knowledge increased!1”
“I’ve stopped thinking!”
“Thought transcendence!”
Besides pondering if it was an illusion, Ke Meng did have some strange knowledge that he did not know previously popping into his mind as he stared at the strange cat.
For instance, out of the blue, he knew how to rear this strange cat as well as its background.
It was the treasure of the Cat-faced People Mountain Village, and it was named the Strange Knowledge Cat. It could help some creatures learn strange knowledge.
If one were to stare into the cat’s big eyes for 15 seconds, strange knowledge would be added to the person’s mind.
However, before the knowledge was added, there must first be something strange about that person. Otherwise, there would not be any strange knowledge added to one’s head out of nowhere.
Apart from that, this cat had stopped thinking. It remained still. Also, it had a rare function which was thought transcendence. However, the chance of transcendence was very, very low.
Throughout history, only the first village head of the Cat-faced People Mountain Village experienced thought transcendence. The village head then left the village, claiming he was going to develop himself in the world out there. He had never returned, and nobody knew where his body was now.
That was the background of the Strange Knowledge Cat.
Meanwhile, the background knowledge suddenly swam into Ke Meng’s mind. It was the Strange Knowledge Cat’s main function, which was to provide a person with strange knowledge.
Ke Meng’s mind was in a mess as he looked at the big-faced cat’s silly face.
Forget that he dreamed of himself becoming the Great Old One. Most importantly, the thing that the fanatics had offered as a sacrifice was transmigrated to reality!
It was simply magical!
Ke Meng got off the bed but did not approach the cat yet. Instead, he moved to the big-faced cat’s back to observe it.
The cat was as still as a mountain.
Ke Meng thought to himself as he walked out of the room. He closed the door softly, leaving a tiny gap from which he secretly watched the cat outside the door.
Its strange expression remained. It seemed to be eternally stuck with that expression on its face forever.
The more he stared at the cat, the stranger it looked.
‘Should I keep it? If I don’t, accidents might happen to it easily out there. After all, this cat seems to have a fixed expression. It doesn’t blink and it keeps its eyes open.’
Ke Meng returned to his room to test the cat when he thought about its blinking. He then snapped a picture of the strange cat with his camera.
He picked up a piece of paper and rolled it up into a cylinder. When he patted the big-faced cat’s head softly, it did not dodge him and remained staring at him with its eyes wide open.
“Meow!” The cat’s meowing came into his head again.
It did not bit or snuggle up to him. It just sat quietly over there with its eyes wide open, appearing pretty scary.
Soon, Ke Meng transferred the five-minute video that he had taken onto his computer. He checked it frame after frame.
As expected, the cat’s eyes remained open. There was not even a second when its eyes were shut while its expression remained still.
Although Ke Meng was a little scared of the creature that came from another world, he was not that timid. After all, it was the sacrifice offered by the fanatics.
Moreover, this cat was special. It provided one with strange knowledge out of nowhere. There was no cat like it in the world.
He walked to the big-faced cat’s side and patted its head with the paper roll again.
“Meow.”
The meowing echoed in his head again, but the big-faced cat did not open its mouth. While it stared at him with its eyes wide open, its expression remained the same.
Ke Meng thought to himself. If he placed the beckoning cat next to him, they could become the best dazing partners that were meant to be.
“Now that I think about it, what character does this cat play in the game?” Ke Meng patted the big-faced cat’s head with the paper roll and mumbled.
The cat said nothing. It just stared at him and meowed in his head.
Ke Meng stared at the big-faced cat and recalled what he had seen earlier.
In the surreal dream, he could still remember the boring, deep ocean city.
He had stood in the middle of the massive city at the bottom of the ocean blankly where he had watched those insane marine creatures fighting for a couple of hours.
There was no light deep in the ocean, but darkness had no impact on his sight since he was the boss. He could still observe what happened in the deep ocean without any light.
Those couple of hours had been as boring as a nightmare.
He returned to his computer and browsed the keywords “Cthulhu” and “MUR cat”.
He browsed the internet aimlessly. No matter whether he looked at mobile games, computer games, or console games, none of those matched MUR cat and Cthulhu.
He laid back against the computer chair and gave up thinking.
Meanwhile, the big-faced cat sat in the basin and stared at the wall. It had stopped thinking since it was born.
…
Ke Meng suddenly recalled the video that he had edited last night after staring into space for a while.
Because he had been too sleepy last night, he had fallen asleep instantly, so he did not upload the draft.
After logging into B Site’s account dashboard, he uploaded the video from his computer.
It was a video of him unboxing the camera that had just arrived yesterday.
He had nothing much to do on the daily. Apart from collecting rent, he would scroll on B Site and read some novels.
Since the camera he had was broken, he had gotten a new one. He took the opportunity to make an unboxing video. After posting the video, he waited for it to be reviewed.
As Ke Meng stretched, he turned his head to look at the big-faced cat. That thing was still staring at the wall.
A thought popped into his mind. Was this thing really not going to move?
To test if the big-faced cat was pretending, he shifted the basin to another direction, whereby it was facing the computer desk.
He pointed the camera at the cat’s face and downloaded the online surveillance software on his computer. Then, he used the camera to monitor the cat in real life.
After doing all that, Ke Meng heard a strange commotion downstairs.
Psst, psst!
The sound was rather odd.
He walked to the window and looked downstairs while leaning on the edge of the window.
