Chapter 25 Mike Tells Melanda’s Mom His Feelings
Mike’s POV
I had a good sleep. When I woke up, I felt that my mind had cleared up a lot. I remembered what my mother had said. “Baby, you have to be brave. You must not lose Melanda again.”
Yes, I definitely couldn’t lose her again. I had already wasted so much time.
Around seven, I arrived at Aunt Annie’s house. I promised Millie I would come to see her. As soon as I entered the house, Millie ran toward me. “Daddy, you’re here!” The way she called me Daddy was so pleasant. I hugged my little angel.
“Baby, where’s your mother? Why don’t I see her?”
“Mom went on a date.”
“What?” My head thumped and I was stunned. “She went on a date. She went on a date,” I muttered.
“Yeah, Mom went on a date with Leo.” Millie didn’t sense my abnormality and was still reporting to me.
Aunt Annie came over and took Millie from me. “Baby, didn’t you want to watch a cartoon for a while?” Millie was distracted and left me to watch television.
Aunt Annie saw my distraught look and walked over to say, “Mike, are you okay? Come sit down.”
I sat on the sofa and covered my face with my hand.
I heard Aunt Annie asking me, “Mike, what’s wrong?”
“Melanda went on a date with someone else.”
“Yes, what’s wrong with that? Why do you have such a strong reaction? Melanda should have a life of her own, right? She’s only 24.”
“But I can make her happy, and she’s happy with me. She can’t date anyone else,” I couldn’t help but say.
“Baby, do you know what you’re saying?” Aunt Annie continued to ask.
“Aunt Annie, I’m sorry. I should have told you sooner.” I planned to be honest with Aunt Annie. “Actually, I’ve always liked Melanda. I’ve liked her since a long time ago. I love her a lot,” I said as I observed Aunt Annie’s reaction.
Aunt Annie looked shocked. Her mouth dropped open. The expression on her face was strange. It looked like a smile, but there were tears in her eyes. This reaction was familiar. It was like my mother’s reaction. I stood up and walked to her, then I squatted down.
“Auntie, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
“I’m fine, baby. I’m good. I’m just so happy. You finally realized your feelings. I’m so happy. You really love her, right?” she said with a smile as she cried.
“Yes, Auntie. I love her more than I think. I can’t live without her. But what should I do? She’s already gone on a date with someone else.” The thought of Melanda dating someone else right now was torturous to me.
“I’m really happy for you, Mike. It’s okay. You have to be patient with her. She’s been through a lot and suffered a lot. The burden she’s carrying is too heavy. Give her some time and let her tell you the truth herself.” The truth? What truth? Aunt Annie’s words confused me.
But I didn’t have time to think so much. It was enough as long as Auntie didn’t stop me from pursuing Melanda. I stood up, found my phone, and sent Melanda a message. I wanted her to know I was waiting for her at home. Jealousy was making me impatient.
I knew it was childish of me to interrupt Melanda’s date, but I couldn’t control myself. At first, Melanda even replied to me. Fortunately, she was still worried about Millie. Later, she saw me flirting with her and ignored me.
When they finally returned and Leo left, I asked eagerly,
“I was right, wasn’t I? Leo is into you. So did you agree to him?”
Melanda looked at me intently. “Mike, don’t you think you’re acting strange tonight? What position are you in to be jealous? My brother? I’ve grown up. I’m not a little girl anymore. I have my own sense of judgment.”
“No, I’m not your brother. I like you. I’m dying of jealousy!” I shouted in my heart, but I controlled myself. I couldn’t scare her. I couldn’t lose her again.
“Baby, I’m a man. I know how men think. Leo is too young. So many young girls in the office like him. I’m afraid you’ll be hurt by him.” I was telling the truth. Leo was very popular with young girls in the office.
“Okay, I don’t want to discuss this with you anymore. I’m tired. Thank you for watching Millie for me. Now that I’m back, you can go home and rest.” Melanda didn’t seem to want to continue the topic.
“Baby, I just want you to know that I’ll always be with you.” Before I left, I hugged her. This beautiful little angel was too charming tonight. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Even so, I had to say goodbye.
