I Don’t Need A Husband - Chapter 60
Chapter 60
“You can’t.”
Allure looked at Berthas, who spoke resolutely with surprised eyes.
“This child is the rightful Empress of Hillenton. If you want to take this child to Larchen, you’ll have to kill all those soldiers before you go.”
Together with Berthas’ words, the soldiers and knights behind him pulled out their swords. Allure shouted with a puzzled look, as he hadn’t expected it to turn out like this.
“This is the only heir of Larchen!”
“She is also the Empress of Hillenton.”
“What nonsense are you talking about!”
“Don’t you know what it means for me to be the regent?”
Because Berthas was blocking information from going out of Hillenton, neighboring countries of Hillenton still did not know exactly what had happened here.
The news that he took power did not even spread to the people of the empire within the country, and only the people in the capital knew about it, and it was Berthas who blocked the capital until the situation calmed down. So, the situation was slowly coming to an end.
Berthas’ cruelty, who killed all the nobles who rebelled against him, made other nobles kneel before him, and there was no mercy even in the hands of the knights who originally followed him.
Just one offer. If they refuse, they’ll be killed… that was how Berthas Hillenton governed the country. Kill everyone who was not on his side. It was deliberately a reign of terror. It was better to subjugate Hillenton to Larchen.
“Berthas!”
“Call me the Regent. Strictly speaking, I am the one Larchen’s father of the nation.”
“Does Her Majesty know that you are thinking like this? How dare…”
“It’s not that I’m not grateful for calming my daughter’s magic though I don’t mean to let you cross the line. Hector! Serve this man respectfully.”
Following his orders, Hector led Allure. He was going to be locked in a room where magical powers did not work.
“Does Hillenton pay your gratitude this way?”
“You’ll just have to wait a week. Since you have to take me and the child, shouldn’t you have a good rest to restore your magic?”
“What?”
“You will go with me when you use the movement magic.”
Berthas shook his hand, asking for Allure to leave quickly, so Hector took Allure and left.
“What kind of impudent person he is!”
“Consider yourself lucky. Doesn’t His Excellency say he’ll let you live?”
“What nonsense is that!”
Allure burst into anger for treating someone who helped Berthas like this. Hector opened his mouth to him.
“We killed all outsiders who were aware of this situation. As you know, Hillenton’s situation is not good. The Regent is going to restore Hillenton before other empires know about it.”
“What are you doing by building a country that is already tilting!”
“I know, but there are also things that can’t be helped.”
Hector already knew Berthas’ true intentions. Although he knew that he was going to hand over the country to Larchen, there was no way to stop it. Hillenton was already in a difficult situation. He couldn’t help it when Bertas, whom he believed was the only hope, wanted it like that.
“And it would be better for you to stay still. Doesn’t he already say he’s going to Larchen anyway?”
“The Empress of Hillenton, going to Larchen… Ah.”
He smiled bitterly at Allure’s expression, which seemed to have realized something.
“Now that you know, you have to watch your mouth.”
“I see”
“I think we have to leave in a week.”
“Until then, I will definitely recover my magic.”
“I hope so.”
Guiding Allure to the room where he was staying, Hector started walking again. His heart was troubled. At a time like this, if Dahan, his best friend, had been by his side, he would have drunk his heart out.
“When is he coming? That fellow.”
At the same time.
Dahan was being pursued by the people of the Khalifa Empire. The trouble started after he left the bar and went into the back alley while gathering information. They fought sword to sword, but fearing that the guards of Larchen would mobilize, the Khalifa Empire ran away and threw a dagger at him.
The dagger barely passed him by, but it was hot as if it had been burning. Perhaps the dagger was poisoned. There was a vague figure that came into his eyes as he hurriedly ran away.
“Help m—”
And he blacked out.
When Dahan opened his eyes again, there was a woman he had saved the other day. Watching the woman chatting with the man who appeared to be the doctor, he blinked, trying to correct his blurry gaze.
“Poison?”
“Exactly. It seems to be the poison of the desert, but it is strong. It was obtained from a scorpion, but how did such a young man…”
“Then, can you detoxify it?”
“I’ll watch the situation slowly. First of all, he has to drink water boiled with Tasgar grass twice a day, morning and evening. I’ll prescribe you a week’s worth of medicine.”
“Thank you, doctor.”
The woman who saw the doctor who left to make medicine came and sat next to him.
“What kind of person are you?”
“Just… a little…”
“Don’t say anything if you’re someone doing dangerous things, because I don’t want to get entangled.”
“Auntie!”
A young child of five or six years old ran over and hugged the woman. The woman holding the child affectionately whispered something to the child, and the child went upstairs. Dahan said while looking at the child’s back.
“You had a child.”
“Right.”
“Then the father…”
“None.”
“Pardon.”
“No, it’s okay.”
As silence passed, the woman who had been staring into Dahan’s face opened her mouth to him.
“This is your belongings, but I took it. There was a letter that seemed important.”
“Did you read it?”
Dahan’s mood changed. Not taken aback by his sharpened expression, the woman whispered.
“I couldn’t read it because it was sealed, but I saw who it was sent to.”
“If you can go somewhere…”
“Were you looking for someone to deliver that letter to? Someone who can enter Larchen’s imperial palace?”
“Yes. That’s right.”
The woman who kept his mouth shut and thought for a moment spoke to him.
“I can take it.”
“What?”
The woman, Meryl, opened her mouth again as if she had made up her mind.
“I can take it.”
A week later, Isilis accepted the letter from Meryl.
“Who was it sent from again?”
“It was Berthas Hillenton, Your Majesty.”
“How did you get this?”
“I ended up rescuing someone who was accidentally injured and found it in his belongings.”
Isilis, who had left the letter on the table without breaking the seal, pondered. It was nearly eleven months since Berthas left. In the meantime, they hadn’t been in touch, so she thought about everything.
However, a letter now arrived.
Meryl opened her mouth again to Isilis, who couldn’t bear to open it after looking at the letter.
“According to the injured man, he was lost in the capital for almost nine months. He couldn’t find anyone to deliver the letter, and he couldn’t even enter the imperial castle to deliver the letter.”
“Why?”
“There were people who were looking for him. That’s why he was hurt by them…”
“Who?”
“I don’t know that either, Your Majesty.”
Isilis looked at the letter again. It would be nice to meet in person.
“Did you say he was hurt?”
“He is.”
“Where is he now?”
“In my house.”
“At your house?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
‘He’s hurt. If Berthas’ contact had arrived on time, it would have been nine months ago. Though in the meantime, who blocked the letter from me? Even if he can’t enter the Palace himself, there must be another way.’
Usman’s face passed for a moment, but Isilis shook her head. Why would he even do that? She thought it over though she couldn’t figure it out. She wanted to open the contents, but she was afraid.
What was he trying to say by contacting her? Not to wait? Or would he be back soon? Did he miss her? Too much time has already passed.
Thinking so, Isilis closed her eyes. Seeing that, Meryl quietly moved away.
Did he get the letter that the child was lost? Could he have received the letter and contacted her? She wondered. For a period of ten months, she was curious and waited for contact from the spies in Hillenton, but there was no word.
That meant at least nothing happened to Hillenton, so why did Berthas go back to Hillenton?
For some reason. He left her here.
Isilis shook her head violently at the deepening thoughts. The crown on top of her head fell with a clank. It was the first time the crown had fallen from her head.
“Your Majesty…”
“It is fine.”
As she magically lifted the crown from the floor and placed it on the desk where she did her business, she could see her face in the light of the golden crown.
‘…How much did I sacrifice for that?’
She lost too much for the throne. Her mother’s love was lost, and the love she had won for herself was gone. She lost her child, and she lost her people.
She had lost everything she wanted to protect, and now she even thought about letting go of the throne.
If it hadn’t been for Usman Khalifa, hadn’t been for him who had been affectionate with her while Berthas was gone, if it hadn’t been for him who’d held her from her fall, she didn’t know how she would have changed herself after she threw down the throne.
That didn’t mean she gave her heart to Usman, but at least she was grateful.
‘It’s a debt that must be repaid someday.’
She straightened her back and looked away. It wasn’t the time to think about it. She gestured to Meryl, and she came closer to her desk.
Isilis said to her as she put her ear closer.
.
“In that case…”
“Your Majesty!”
The door burst open, and an attendant entered. Just as she was about to frown at that rude behavior, the attendant shouted.
“Master Allure has returned!”
“What?”
Isilis jumped up from the spot. Her face lit up at the arrival of the person she had been waiting for.
“Did he find the child?”
“Your Majesty, that is…”
