The day had just broken, and the first ray of sunlight shone through the dark sky.
“Ah…”
Xia Changyue woke up in a shock and sat up in bed suddenly. She took a quick look at her rental flat and realized that she was dreaming.
She held her face with both her hands and panted.
Why would she dream about Yan Chengchi and he had come to get her at her flat…
Once she remembered yesterday’s messages, she couldn’t go back to sleep anymore.
She washed up quickly and started packing her luggage.
Yan Chengchi didn’t say he would send someone to pick her up. Therefore, it meant she would have to make her own way there.
Xia Changyue bit her lips. She only packed a few pieces of clothes and work-related stuff into a suitcase and left the apartment.
She then hailed a taxi and gave the address on the phone.
The friendly driver tried to chat with her on the way there, but Xia Changyue couldn’t concentrate on the conversation and just laugh along politely. She felt increasingly nervous as the taxi got closer to Yan Chengchi’s villa. She felt like her heart was at her throat.
The thought of meeting Yan Chengchi later made her break out in a cold sweat. She couldn’t help but clench her fists.
“We have arrived, Miss,” the driver turned his head and informed her excitedly. Then, he alighted the car to get the luggage from the car boot and passed it to her.
“Thank you, Sir,” Xia Changyue took over the luggage and looked at the luxurious villa in front of her. Her body stiffened.
She couldn’t even smile when she remembered that she would be meeting Yan Chengchi later.
After watching the taxi drive away, she braced herself and dragged her luggage toward the villa.
She could see the neat rows of holly trees in the garden from the gate. They looked like guards on sentry duty.
The fountain in the middle of the garden was turned on. Sprouts of water were sparkling in mid-air like strings of pearls.
The water sprouts fell into the pool and formed the water curtains. They looked sparklingly beautiful in the morning light.
The gate was tightly shut. There were no security guards or anyone else at the gate.
Xia Changyue stopped and hesitated for a few seconds, then she put down her luggage and rang the bell.
She stood there quietly and waited.
She was all tensed up when she heard footsteps coming from the villa.
She was a little taken aback when she realized that it was an old man about fifty standing in front of her.
“I am the butler of the villa, Miss Xia. Please follow me.” The butler made a short and simple introduction, then he took Xia Changyue’s luggage, turned around, and entered the building.
When she regained her wits, Xia Changyue discovered that the butler had left her in her lonesome as he continued to walk at a far off distance.
Did everyone around Yan Chengchi have an expressionless face similar to his?
His special assistant at the office was like that. Now, even the butler in the villa was like that too…
Xia Changyue nagged secretly in her heart; she then began to run to catch up with the butler.
To her, everybody who worked for Yan Chengchi was in cahoots with him. Maybe it was Yan Chengchi’s idea for the butler to behave so coldly toward her.
She slowed down when she entered the villa’s living room.
The vast living room’s European style renovation was magnificent with expensive, real leather sofa and authentic art masterpieces on the wall.
The opulence that greeted her gave her an unexplainable feeling.
She couldn’t help but clench her fists while standing there.
“Your room is upstairs, Miss Xia.” The butler spoke his second sentence. He looked at the stunned Xia Changyue and just walked straight upstairs with her luggage.
Xia Changyue’s eyes flickered, and she hurried to catch up to him.
The second floor was quiet.
It was that kind of cold silence.
However, it was still as luxurious.
