“What?” Zhou Yue turned around and looked at Cheng Zhiyan with a mischievous expression on her face as she explained to him, “Xiaotu’s mother won’t be coming to pick her up tonight, because she has the evening shift.”
“So?” Seeing that his mother seemed to have no intention of carrying Xiaotu to her own bedroom, Cheng Zhiyan asked, “What does that mean?”
“That means she’ll sleep with you.” Zhou Yue gazed at him nonchalantly, as if this wasn’t presumptuous at all. Then she smirked devilishly, “Son, did you know that there are more than 6 billion people on Earth? If a person wanted to encounter his significant other, year after year he would have to search among this sea of people. Some unlucky people never find their significant others during their entire lives. Yet you…, can’t you see how lucky you are? You didn’t even have to search for your significant other. She was dropped from the sky like a gift for you.”
Cheng Zhiyan’s clear eyes twinkled like bright stars. After watching his mother give him this passionate lecture, he fell silent for about two seconds and then said indifferently, “Mom, could you please have a central idea when you make a speech?”
“What do you mean by central idea? You’ve been studying literature a little too much, haven’t you??” Zhou Yue rolled her eyes at Cheng Zhiyan in an exasperated manner. “You really aren’t romantic at all. To summarize what I’ve just said, you will sleep with Xiaotu tonight.”
“Why?” Cheng Zhiyan’s eyebrows lifted, and he glanced down at Xiaotu, who was fast asleep in his arms. “This little rascal is only endearing when she’s asleep. During the daytime, she’s a complete and totally annoying brat.”
“He’d already had to eat with her and play with her. Now, his mother is saying he has to sleep with her as well. Didn’t that basically make him an escort?”
“Because…” Zhou Yue shot Cheng Zhiyan a faint smile, walked to his side, and picked up Xiaotu. Yet, just as she was about to carry her away from Cheng Zhiyan, Xiaotu started wailing, “No…hug…”
……
Cheng Zhiyan had nothing to say as he glared at the little figure in front of him. When he’d lifted his head and seen the smug expression on his mother’s face, it had suddenly dawned on him how pitiful his life was.
“You see, besides her mother, this child only wants you. Mom wants to help you lessen the burden as well, but unfortunately my hands are tied…” Zhou Yue held on to Xiaotu, who was crying nonstop with her eyes closed, and shot Cheng Zhiyan a helpless look as she said this.
After she’d finished speaking, she shoved Xiaotu back into Cheng Zhiyan’s arms.
Within the span of a mere second, Xiaotu instantly ceased crying.
Cheng Zhiyan stared at Xiaotu, who was lying in his arms with a blissful expression on her face, with an exasperated expression and felt that he was about to lose it.
“All right, all right, since you’ve already taken a bath anyway, you might as well just go to bed early. Ah, be a good boy.” After uttering these consolatory words to her son, Zhou Yue turned around and promptly left the room.
Inside the quiet bedroom, only Cheng Zhiyan and Xiaotu remained.
“You spoiled baby!”
Cheng Zhiyan looked down at Xiaotu, who appeared to be sleeping soundly, and he simply couldn’t resist the urge to forcefully pinch her cheeks yet again.
“Sleep!”
He turned off the lamp and, with Xiaotu’s soft body in his arms, he lay down.
During the night, Cheng Zhiyan kept feeling a small hand touching his face. The small hand first felt his eyes, then his nose, and after feeling his nose the hand started touching his mouth.
He opened his eyes, and with the light of the moon, he glanced toward Xiaotu, who was fast asleep by his side.
