I’m a Villainess, Can I Die? - Chapter 51
Chapter 51
The human mind was very strange.
I was just about to let Aiden go, but I didn’t want to since it was weird when someone else mentioned it first.
For example, when I was about to organize the documents, and my boss said, ‘Are you going to organize those documents?’, it makes you want to do something else.
For example, I was about to organize some documents once when my boss said, ‘Are you going to organize those documents?’, and it made me want to go do something else.
In my previous life, I had to shut up and work because I was in a position where I had to bend over unconditionally… But not now.
“Well… He can’t keep standing here.”
As soon as I finished speaking, I grabbed an empty chair. It was the chair opposite the one Lucas was sitting on.
As I grabbed the chair, Jacob’s eyes, which had been smiling with satisfaction, opened slightly wider.
“Aiden, sit here.”
Aiden blinked. Jacob also blinked, and Lucas, who turned his head, blinked as well.
In line with the trend, I also blinked.
“Lady, are you telling me to sit down in humiliation with a servant, now?”
The relaxed smile disappeared from Jacob’s face. The blue eyes, filled with displeasure, turned to me, and when they met mine, I was surprised and smiled again.
Right, in a world where people believed in status, one may be unwilling to sit down with an employee. I kind of understood that… I strongly thought that those ideals were useless.
It’s not like anyone would die if they sat together.
“Oh my, I have some work for him to do now. It’s urgent, so I think he’ll have to do it right here… If that makes you uncomfortable, I will move.”
As I pulled back the chair to move away, Jacob hastily shook his head.
“No, Lady. My heart for Lady was so great that I was jealous of even a servant. I am ashamed.”
“No, it’s okay.”
Those words had been bothering me since a while ago, but I kept my mouth shut because I didn’t think it would be good for more sudden action now. Aiden, who sat down at my command, had a pale face.
‘What? Hey, what’s happening here?’
That’s what the face looking at me was saying.
“Please recount the things I told you to bring.”
In fact, the number would already be correct. I sat him down, but there was nothing I actually wanted him to do, so I roughly told him to just do anything.
Aiden gave a quiet answer and rolled up the cloth that was covering the basket. Jacob looked at Aiden’s basket displeasedly, glanced at me blankly, covered his mouth and started to laugh.
What was so funny about that basket? I glanced at it, but to my eyes it just looked normal.
I took a sip of tea while watching Aiden counting one by one. The sun was setting outside of the greenhouse.
Somehow, the only things I did at the party today was talk to people whose eyes shook like earthquakes, getting confessed to four times by Jacob, and trying to know who would be the owner of Lucas’s handkerchief, like a Detective Handkerchief… Still, it seemed like time had passed.
Now it was time to end the party. Dinner should’ve been at everyone’s homes.
“Lady Selena!”
At just the right time, Vivian also returned. She went straight to me as soon as she came, as if she didn’t care about the chaotic atmosphere of people standing and talking.
Vivian, who glanced at Lucas standing next to me, carefully looked at Aiden and Jacob who were sitting at my table and sat down without hesitation in the empty seat.
“Was I absent for too long? Was Lady feeling lonely all this time?…I’m worried!”
Vivian grabbed my hand. ‘Wow, she’s energetic.’
“Are the stains gone?”
When I asked about the dress to turn the subject around, Vivian shut her mouth. ‘Again, what’s with this reaction?’
“Oh my gosh! You worried about my dress! Thanks to Lady Selena’s concern, the stain quickly disappeared. I was a little late because I was waiting for the dress to dry…”
While we were talking, Vivian pushed her body back and looked at the other tables.
I thought she was ignoring the chaotic atmosphere, but she seemed to just have noticed. Should I say she was too slow-witted or had too much of a one track mind…?
After watching Vivian for a long time, she turned her head towards me and lowered her voice.
“Why are these people there?”
‘I know, right?’ What’s up with the handkerchiefs and why was everyone like this?
I didn’t know the situation, but I was too lazy to talk about it, so I shrugged my shoulders and focused on my cake. I decided to end the party after eating it.
***
Lucas turned his head to the side of those fighting without dignity. His small movements made noises everywhere.
He stood and watched the situation without drawing any conclusions, but not because he was thinking about those who wouldn’t get the handkerchiefs. He didn’t want them to come to a conclusion on their own.
It was just fun to watch the fight.
Such noble people were fighting so ignorantly.
Where could he find such joy?
Lucas smiled wide till his cheeks lifted, but he was slowly starting to get bored.
He kept worrying about the fact that this man named Jacob kept confessing to Selena. Why was he confessing without paying attention to the people he saw here? ….It would be difficult if a scandal broke out from this.
The man seemed to be aiming for that result. Lucas’s hand gripped the handkerchief and tensed up. When the initially smooth handkerchief was wrinkled, it was only then that he relaxed his hands.
Lucas tapped his foot once.
Now that the sun was setting, the party had to come to an end.
Now, who should he be giving this handkerchief to? To be honest, he didn’t want to give it to anyone. He didn’t even want to give it to Jacob in the first place.
He felt very impulsive today. He also had the urge to ask Selena, ‘Are you having fun?’ while she was talking to Jacob alone. She didn’t seem to understand it.
Lucas glanced at Selena, the center of all his impulsive thoughts, who was listening to Jacob and Vivian with that blank face. The two continued to talk to Selena as if they were unexhausted.
Selena, who was listening to the chatter, opened her mouth when the two of them stopped talking.
“I really enjoyed our time today.”
The two of them blinked their eyes at the sudden closing words.
“Now I have to end the party.”
Selena muttered a little and stood up from her seat. Selena pushed her chair into the table with a calm motion, and stood next to Lucas, who was the cause of all this commotion.
When Selena stood next to Lucas, who was the focus of everyone’s attention, people’s eyes shifted to Selena. At the same time, the noisy characters became quiet one by one.
Come to think of it, they had been invited to a party, and they were acting like this… It couldn’t have been anything but rude. Especially in front of Selena, who was famous for her bad personality.
As the purpose of this party was to kill rumors, the ones circulating outside about her were not good. She had a bad personality? Those rumors were particularly better.
Those present at this party were not aware of the rumors. By the way…
‘What did I do just now?’
The nobles felt like they were being used for something.
They were just trying to get a handkerchief and didn’t know how they got into such a mess.
Their faces turned red and blue in an instant due to complex reasons such as fear and embarrassment.
Their throats burned and they wanted a cup of tea, but their empty teacups were lying helplessly on the tables.
“I prepared a small present for those who accepted the invitation today.”
Unsure of what to do as the colors of their faces changed, their eyes twitched at the unexpected words that came out of Selena’s mouth. It wasn’t a lie when Selena said that she had prepared a present, as something was in Selena’s hand.
A flat, smooth-looking square object… No, an object folded into a square.
“A handkerchief?”
Someone who noticed the identity of the object muttered it out. The person who spit out the word without realizing it quickly closed their mouth and looked around.
Selena glanced at the noble who had shut their mouth even after telling the right answer, then she looked back and continued her words.
“I think everyone needs a handkerchief.”
It was a really calm voice.
“I prepared it generously, so everyone can receive it.”
To give a handkerchief to everyone who was fighting over one. Besides, it wasn’t only them, but everyone invited to the party had a handkerchief for a present… Everyone looked at Selena with a slightly bewildered look.
It was not only the nobles invited to the party who were surprised.
Lucas, who stood next to Selena and quietly watched what she was doing, was also surprised. In fact, he was so surprised that he was about to burst into laughter.
How could she come up with such a clever idea… Lucas slightly admired it and smiled instead of laughing.
The handkerchief was not a prepared gift. Most of the preparations for this party were done by Lucas, so that he knew for sure. That meant that this handkerchief gift was improvised during the party.
On the other hand, those who participated in Sir Lucas’s handkerchief fight felt a little unjustified for some reason.
Of course, what they did was very disrespectful, and they were lucky enough that Selena didn’t go wild and get angry. Yes, that was a good thing… But it was Sir Lucas’s handkerchief that drove them to do these outrageous things. Dresses, clothes, manners, they ruined all sorts of things, but what they got in return was an ordinary handkerchief.
No one dared to frown, but it was heartbreaking.
“Sir Lucas, could you hand them this? I, uh… My wrists hurt.”
But their opinions were healed cleanly of bitterness after Selena’s words.
‘Oh my God, Princess Selena is an angel.’
It wasn’t just on a better level. They all saw a halo hovering over Selena’s head.
As Selena just said, everyone was given a handkerchief from Lucas. Instead of getting angry at this absurd situation, everyone got what they want equally… Even Lucas appreciated Selena a little and put his own handkerchief back into his pocket.
Lucas received the basket from Selena and slowly moved forward to each of the guests. Whenever he handed over a handkerchief and smiled, the guests’ faces lit up and glowed.
Some held the handkerchief from Sir Lucas, whom they longed for, tightly in their arms, and someone proudly put the handkerchief given to them by Sir Lucas, whom they admired, in their pockets.
Selena secretly shook her head at this situation that was like a Lucas fan signing event.
“Oh, I should have given this to Sir Jacob too… I shouldn’t have given you my handkerchief.”
I handed Jacob a handkerchief just like everyone else. It was because I didn’t want to give him my handkerchief.
But thinking about it, I should have given it to him in the first place.
Opening his mouth with brief regret, Jacob squinted his eyes and opened his mouth.
“No, I think Lady’s handkerchief is much more valuable.”
That’s right. Actually, my handkerchief was much more expensive.
I know that Jacob didn’t mean it by price, but I didn’t want to really understand what he meant. By the way, I was annoyed by how he kept revealing himself in front of others.
Jane, Lucas, Aiden, and now Vivian. The number of people kept increasing.
Vivian opened her eyes and looked at Jacob and me alternately, frowned, then jumped up and stood next to me.
Then, Vivian looked at me with her eyes shining. It was because Vivian was the only one who did not receive a present at this party.
Yes, presents were good. Wasn’t a present the most material and sure way to show off Vivian’s special connection?
Reaching out to Aiden, I placed a small paper box in her hand, as I had promised in advance. It was a pink box that looked exactly like the dress Vivian gave me.
I pushed the pink box tied with a white ribbon into Vivian’s bewildered hand and opened my mouth in a louder voice than usual.
It was a voice so loud that everyone in this greenhouse could hear it.
“Vivian. I’m sorry I couldn’t accept your last invitation. I felt bad, so I prepared a special gift for you. Will you accept it?”
