Chapter 68
The Emperor stared back at the Princess with a cold face. There was a twisted ridicule over his neat face.
“I didn’t even call you, how dare you come to me first?”
“….”
“Are you really out of your mind?”
At his sarcasm, the Princess swallowed her breath. She would normally not have asked questions because she was afraid of being beaten. However, if the Emperor really brought in the Wester’s Knight. If so…
‘This is wrong.’
The Emperor was a being who had to take care of everyone. At least, even for his own needs, he shouldn’t have caused dangerous accidents in a jousting contest where everyone was watching.
Eventually, the Princess opened her mouth to him.
“…Did Your Majesty bring in Baron Wester’s knight?”
“What if I brought him in, and what if I didn’t?”
The Emperor was always aggressive. Seeing his sharp attitude, the Princess realized that he indeed arbitrarily inserted that knight in order to disturb Zachary.
She felt deeply exhausted.
‘Really a person like that… Do I have to trust and follow him as the Emperor?’
She had such a question. Stepping back from the Emperor’s office, the Princess recalled the thoughts she had long held.
‘If it were me, I could do better.’
If only she had been given a chance as much as her brother. At least, if only the chances were equal. She… The Princess thought so and shook her head. It was a vain imagination that couldn’t happen.
With that thought, she looked dejected.
Iellie returned to the townhouse, holding Asha’s flower branch dearly, and looked for a vase first. As she filled it with cold water and added a spoonful of sugar, she carefully placed the flower branch in the vase.
“What are you doing, Len?”
Zachary poked his head in.
As she looked at the flower branches, she burst into a smile and replied, “I was just thinking that this flower is really pretty.”
“It’s pretty because it resembles you.”
“Well, you’re just saying that… You seemed like someone who really treated women a lot.”
She glanced up at him as she tapped the flower with her finger. Zachary shrugged his shoulders as he answered back.
“But, I mean it.”
“Yes, thank you for saying that.”
Iellie answered with a smile, trying to hide the sound of her pounding heart. Even though he was nice, sometimes, he excited people too much.
Then, Zachary gently hugged her from behind.
“Za, Zachary…?”
Iellie stuttered unknowingly. Her heart was beating like crazy, and her shoulders got stiff.
“Though I didn’t know you could put it in a vase like this.”
Zachary slowly opened his mouth. Like made from sugar, his voice crumbled and melted in her ear.
“That’s because it’s a pity if the flowers would wither…”
“Then, I can give you a new flower.”
“No, it is meaningless if not this flower.”
As her heart raced, she shook her head slowly. Iellie leaned her head on his shoulder, and she whispered.
“You kept your promise to make me the owner of the Asha flower branch.”
“Len.”
“So, with this flower… your heart is there.”
Zachary gazed down at her as if possessed. The whispering voice was so lovely it felt like he could die.
“I was so happy that you called me your lady.”
“Len.”
Light green eyes staring at him curved beautifully. Her red lips are like flower buds just before they bloom. He lowered her head unknowingly.
Kiss.
A short kiss passed over her soft lips.
“….”
At the sudden kiss, Iellie widened her eyes. Rather startled, Zachary stepped back from her.
“Le, Len!”
“Just now, what…?”
“That, I-I…”
He managed to hold onto his disappearing reason until now, but… what did he just do? He asked himself though no answer was found as his brain was totally blank.
Zachary continued stuttering.
“I’m, I’m sorry. It wasn’t on purpose, no, it was…”
Iellie wasn’t upset. She turned around to face Zachary before reaching out and caressing his cravat. As she rested her hand on his cravat, she raised her head.
“Zachary.”
“Something, something like this will never happen again!”
Zachary’s face turned red and he looked at Iellie. However, she shook her head at his words.
“No, what do you mean this must never happen again?”
“What?”
“We are a married couple.”
When she answered firmly, Zachary blinked blankly. He didn’t understand what she meant.
“It will happen more often in the future, and it should be.”
“…Huh?”
“What if you get frozen like that?”
For a moment, Iellie grabbed his neck, pulled him towards her and whispered in a sweet voice, “And, this is how you kiss.”
“…Le, Len?”
Zachary couldn’t even comprehend.
It was because of the kiss… It was a deep kiss. The kiss was completely different from when they shared their breath with each other when they were very young. It felt like their whole body was melting.
“Ha…”
Moments later, she pulled her lips from him and let out a long sigh. Zachary was now staring blankly at her. Iellie got up and gave her husband a short kiss on the cheek and whispered playfully.
“…What?”
His deep blue eyes trembled slightly, and he locked Iellie inside him. Seeing that, Iellie smiled mischievously and persisted.
“Just say yes.”
“Le, Len. I…”
Zachary was dumbfounded, he couldn’t get his words out. However, she did not listen to him until the end.
“Well then, Zachary. Good night.”
“….”
And so, she turned her body and crossed the long hallway with a trot. It was because she didn’t want to show her flushed face. Zachary, who had been standing there, putting his mind in order, slid into the seat and collapsed.
“…Just now.”
Iellie kissed him….
For him, only that fact struck him clearly. Recalling the touch of her soft lips, Zachary raised his trembling hand and touched his lips.
‘Oh, my God…’
Zachary bowed his head.
“This isn’t a dream, right?”
If it was a dream, he hoped to never wake up… It was an overly perfect dream. He looked like he was about to cry.
9. To Protect You
Most of the schedules they had to attend in the Imperial Capital were over. Now, all that remained was to go down to the Duchy together.
‘Well, anyway, should I put a meaning to the thing that is over?’
It was difficult to say that she had a good relationship with the Emperor, even with empty words. Iellie slightly narrowed her brow.
At that moment—
“Lady, Lady has an invitation.”
“Me?”
Iellie widened her eyes and accepted the invitation. She was planning on going down to the duchy soon, though someone sent out an invitation at this time? Perplexed, she turned the invitation over to verify the sender.
“From the Imperial Household…?”
It was an invitation from the imperial family. A golden seal used by the imperial family is engraved. The sender was the Princess.
‘The Princess is inviting me?’
Feeling suspicious, she opened the invitation.
The content of the invitation itself was simple — The Princess wished to see her face once before she went back to the Duchy.
“….”
However, Iellie bit her lip.
She remembered the last time she met the Princess. She was holding her breath while being suppressed by the Emperor… Why would such a Princess invite someone into the imperial palace without a care?
‘Besides, the Princess… was displeased with the unreasonable favor His Majesty had towards me.’
Of course, the place she got invited to was the Imperial Palace, so it was true that the chance of encountering the Emperor increased.
‘…No. Maybe, I’m just thinking in the wrong direction.’
Iellie shook her head at the thought.
It may be pure favor. It seemed that she had become too sensitive with the Emperor because of what he had done. In other words, it may have been an opportunity to make up for the bad time spent because of the Imperial Family.
“…Hoo.”
With a brief sigh, she pulled out the pen and paper. She couldn’t think of any way to turn it down anyway, and seeing the Princess itself wasn’t bad. The sound of the pen nib scratching the paper resounded moments later.
‘Well, Zachary is also busy meeting the nobles of the Imperial Capital recently.’
Zachary was not particularly interested in making friends with the nobility of the Imperial Capital, but Iellie would send him anyway. If not now, when would he be able to meet the nobles of the capital again?
‘Then, I should do at least this much.’
After roughly contemplating, she finished her reply. The reply mentioned that she would gladly accept the Princess’ invitation.
And the next day, Iellie went to the imperial palace. The handmaid, who greeted her at the Imperial Palace, appeared.
“Greetings Lady Hessenweitz.”
Iellie nodded her head and looked at the handmaid’s outfit, who was guiding her. The imperial coat of arms, in small engravings over her chest, was made in gold. She could not hide her doubts and narrowed her eyes.
‘What…?’
The handmaids of the Imperial Family also have ranks. The golden crest could only be possessed by high-class handmaids serving the royal family in close proximity. In addition, the present Princess was neglected so she could not have a high-class maid.
“….”
Iellie moved along with a suspicious feeling.
After walking for a while, following the handmaid, she saw a small garden in the distance. The world seemed to be made entirely of pink. The pale pink Asha flowers were in full bloom. Among the petals that fluttered and swayed, an unwelcome red hair appeared.
“…Your Majesty?”
Iellie’s expression hardened. The young man, who had been sitting obliquely on the chair, stood up.
“Lady Blanchet.”
“It’s inappropriate for you to call me that way.”
She immediately denied the Emperor’s words. However, he still had a graceful smile.
“It’s just the two of us anyway, so don’t be so harsh.”
“It’s just the two of us, so we need to be more careful with our words.”
Saying that, Iellie strengthened her shoulders tightly. Hearing him clearly state, ‘just the two of us,’ She didn’t know what the Emperor was thinking. Meanwhile, looking at her standing in the seat, he gestured with his fingertips.
“Don’t stand like that, sit down first.”
…I don’t want to.
Iellie barely swallowed the desire to answer like that. She couldn’t stand still staring at the Emperor when her purpose was to improve the relationship with the imperial family, at least a little.
“….”
Eventually, she took a seat. As he watched her tidy up her dress, the Emperor smiled with a happy smile.
“I’m very happy to see Lady like this.”
“I’m sorry I’m not of the same mind, and I don’t know why Your Majesty is here.”
Iellie answered calmly. It was definitely the Princess that invited her to visit. She would not have entered the Imperial Palace if she had known that the Emperor would be present at this place in the first place.
She went on talking.
“It should be so, because I was called by the Princess to come to the palace.”
Having said that, she stared at the Emperor with a searching look. On the other hand, he looked calm.
“To meet Your Majesty… It’s very embarrassing.”
“Does that mean, if I had called the Lady, you wouldn’t have been here?”
“I’m sorry, but that’s right.”
Iellie answered without raising an eyebrow. Hearing that, the Emperor smiled brightly as if he wasn’t offended the slightest bit.
“I thought the Lady would avoid me that way.”
“Your Majesty. That…”
“That’s why I borrowed my sister’s name on purpose.”
The gray eyes rolled as they captured Iellie’s reflection inside it before he opened his mouth in a soft voice.
“Because my sister and Lady seemed pretty close.”
“….”
“Honestly, I am a little sad. You avoided me, though you have a friendly relationship with my sister.”
The Emperor’s flirtatious attitude annoyed her.
Iellie asked the question as she poked out her lips in a cheeky way, “Then, the Princess… does she know that Your Majesty is acting like this?”
When she questioned, the Emperor narrowed his eyes. He shrugged his shoulders and responded calmly.
