Crash!
Because Bran Cook stopped playing the piano, the lights at the party lit up again.
Following the noise, everyone saw a young man holding a bottle of wine, completely drunk, with a piece of cake in his hand.
The cake had a bite taken out of it, not whole anymore.
Most importantly, this person was an unfamiliar face.
It was well known to people in Gonzalez City that the Radcliffe Family’s son-in-law was a good-for-nothing.
But very few had actually seen what this son-in-law looked like.
Julius Reed spent his days at home doing laundry and cooking, going out only to buy groceries, and since the spread of this story was more of a joke, no one was so idle or so painfully curious as to check out what this son-in-law looked like.
So now, Julius Reed was standing right in front of them, but no one recognized him.
After all, they were not from the same social circle and had no connections.
When everybody’s gaze was fixed on Julius Reed, he slowly stuffed the cake into his mouth, took a bite, and seemed to choke on it, then took a swig of wine.
Not a bit of decorum.
Especially when contrasted with Bran Cook’s gentlemanly manner.
“Who is this?”
Bran Cook looked at the somewhat unfamiliar Julius Reed, asking with confusion.
“Isn’t it? Who is this guy! Such bad manners, eating with his hands, like a drunkard!”
“Is he crashing to freeload food and drinks? With that kind of air, he’s definitely not one of us!”
The crowd buzzed with comments, looking at Julius Reed with scorn.
How could such a vulgar person have found his way in here?
Seeing that Bran Cook had asked, Yasser Davenport quickly stepped forward and began to introduce, “This is my friend, he’s called…”
“My name’s Amos Davenport, I’m from the Northeast. I followed Yasser Davenport here from the Northeast because I wanted to see the wealthy Gonzalez City. Is there a problem with that?”
Julius Reed interrupted Yasser Davenport’s words and introduced himself.
Since not many people knew him, why bother revealing his identity?
And as for Bran Cook’s coveting intentions towards his wife, Julius Reed could not stand for that.
“Huh, Yasser Davenport, you’ll bring just anyone in here. What do you think this place is? A vegetable market? Look at this guy, does he deserve to be here?”
“Yasser Davenport, if it weren’t for Bran Cook having a high regard for some of your abilities, just relying on your nearly bankrupt factory, what right would you have to be here, let alone bring someone else?”
“Such a mistake in choosing friends! Really, birds of a feather flock together, just look at your circle, it’s all full of this kind of trash!”
On hearing that Yasser Davenport brought him in, everyone started to attack again.
Although Yasser Davenport was quite capable, his family business was indeed in a bad state, suffering losses for years, and had also accumulated a lot of debt.
The present company spared no effort in speaking this way, which was nothing less than an insult to Yasser Davenport.
In fact, in this circle, Yasser Davenport really didn’t have much status.
“I heard that Rolls-Royce at the entrance is yours? Borrowed from someone, or did you buy it with a loan?” Someone who arrived late happened to see Yasser Davenport stepping out of a Rolls-Royce.
“With your home nearly going bankrupt, what are you trying to pretend? We’re all from Gonzalez City, who doesn’t know whom!”
Another well-dressed young man stood out, scrutinizing Yasser Davenport with obvious contempt.
They were all rich descendants of Gonzalez City, and naturally, they would relentlessly belittle the likes of Yasser Davenport, taking delight in making fun of him.
“That’s right, and there’s his friend, with that pretentious look, even wanting to play the piano? You, can you even play?”
A burst of laughter echoed through the crowd.
“If it weren’t for the piano being out of order, I actually would’ve liked to let this brother show off his talent. It’s just not the right time, huh!”
Bran Cook’s face showed regret. He truly looked down on Yasser Davenport but had heard that Quella Radcliffe was on good terms with Yasser Davenport, so he had reluctantly invited Yasser.
Who knew this fatso would even bring someone along, but since he was invited, he had to show magnanimity.
“No worries, anyone who comes is a friend.”
After a slight smile, he turned and walked towards Quella Radcliffe.
“Clang!”
Unexpectedly, when he had just turned around, Julius Reed, who had been feasting just moments before, swiftly sat at the piano and struck a note.
The air instantly quieted.
“What are you doing! Stand up!”
Bran Cook’s security quickly approached Julius Reed, wanting to pull him up.
“Just now, Bran Cook said that if the piano wasn’t broken, he would allow me to play. What does this mean? Could it be that the piano isn’t broken at all, and it’s just that Bran Cook can’t play?”
Julius Reed turned his head to look at the guards surrounding him.
Seeing this scene, Quella Radcliffe couldn’t help but purse her lips and laugh.
Since Julius Reed was using a pseudonym, it meant he intended to cause trouble here, so she played along, pretending not to know him.
Her previously somber mood was swept away.
“Clang!”
At that moment, Julius Reed pressed another key.
“Wasn’t the piano broken?”
“Yes! No one has touched it, how is it working now? Could it really be Bran Cook who…”
“Shh… don’t talk.”
Everyone whispered among themselves as if they understood something.
Ever since Bran Cook claimed the piano was broken, no one had touched it. How could it be fixed in just a few short minutes?
No one believed there wasn’t a problem with that.
“Silence!” Bran Cook’s face darkened slightly; he hadn’t expected this seemingly boorish man to be so utterly without manners, taking a seat at the piano without the host’s permission.
He had none of the etiquette of the upper class.
He wasn’t following the script.
But on second thought, how could such a person possibly play the piano?
Once everyone laughed at him together, they would forget about Cook’s own pretense of playing.
“Move aside! I said before, as long as the piano is usable, this brother can play if he wants to. What are you doing, get lost!”
With a wave of Bran Cook’s hand, the guards hurriedly backed away, leaving Julius Reed sitting in front of the piano, the center of attention.
“What can this kid play, other than hitting keys at random?”
“These days, there are many people who don’t know their limits. I reckon this might be his first time touching a real piano, huh? Drank a bit, forgotten who he is.”
“Exactly, such a disappointment! Just wait and see how I’m going to humiliate him!”
A group of people, with glee on their faces, waited for Julius Reed to make a fool of himself in public so they could mock him.
After all, kicking someone when they’re down was what they were best at.
“Shall I start, then?”
Julius Reed put the wine bottle on the ground and looked towards Bran Cook.
“Go ahead!”
Bran Cook smiled faintly, waiting inside for Julius Reed to embarrass himself.
“Well then, here’s to making a fool of myself.”
Julius Reed took a deep breath and began to play slowly.
In an instant, everyone was captivated by the music.
The elegant piano sounds seemed to transport them to a sea of flowers, with a waterfall in view.
There were the calls of birds, the chirping of cicadas, and the high song of egrets.
Bran Cook’s expression changed; this wasn’t someone who was unskilled, it was the playing of a master!
