“Ruan Ruan.”
Ah…? Oh, oh. He’s calling me!
Gu Anbao hastily walked over and stopped right in front of him.
From the documents his secretary brought over, Chen Yuheng pulled out a disk and inserted it into the CPU. He then took out a wire and connected one end to the computer and the other end into her ear.
Yep… Not the cat ear on her head, but her real delicate little ear which had a hidden USB port in it.
She didn’t dare move. From the computer screen, she saw a long progress bar pop up, indicating the data input… 1%…
What’s this for?
She was afraid to ask.
Besides, the man had already turned on another laptop and was reading through his mail.
There was only the light tapping sound of the keyboard in the office.
Initially, she was obediently staring at the progress bar, but later… her gaze slowly shifted to the man…
Sneaking a glance at him…
He did not notice… So, she snuck another glance… and caught sight of the long list of unread emails on the screen of his work computer. It left her dumbfounded.
Does he have to read through… everything…? There are so many emails, and they’re all in English…
Reading them seems to be no problem to him at all, though. With just a glance, he seems to have read through ten lines…
How impressive…
He speedily replied to a few emails, and that was when he felt his eyes a little dry and his mood growing increasingly irritable. He rested his head against his seat and closed his eyes for a break. Not long after, he opened his eyes and found that silly robot still staring at him.
In fact, he had noticed the first time she had peeped at him.
Having been caught in the act, the embarrassed robot retracted her gaze and pretended to be focused on staring at her progress bar instead…
Her reaction amused him, and he asked, “Are you not going to continue peeping?”
With unswerving determination, she motionlessly stared at the progress bar, while her face began to flush a little…
He looked at her with a tilted head. “Are you done looking?”
“Yes… Enough… It’s enough…” She hung her head low in defeat like a little student who had just admitted to her mistake.
“Are you still going to look?”
Huh?
C-Can I?
She turned to him blankly, her eyes seemed to be saying: Can I continue to look at you?
A chuckle escaped his lips.
Only then did she realize how foolish… she was acting…
There was another knock on the door.
Holding a bowl of pudding in hand, Lu Lu entered the office with a stiff face as if delivering the pudding was a heroic act.
“Director Chen, your caramel pudding.” She eked out a smile as she bent over and carefully placed the pudding on the table before steadily pushing it in front of her boss.
When she straightened up, she discovered, much to her surprise, that his mood was not as terrible as she thought it to be. Glancing to the side, she saw Gu Anbao’s reddened face and her heart instantly became turbulent!
Did that devil… vent his frustrations on the robot…?
Is teasing the robot… his new interest?!!
She reckoned that was it! She turned around firmly to leave and announce this great discovery to Cheryl and Alan!
And so, the office turned quiet once again. With a small dessert spoon, Chen Yuheng scooped mouthful after mouthful of the pudding. He moved the mouse with the other hand from time to time and continued reading the rest of his mail.
It was as if the man who had teased her had never existed.
Gu Anbao put her hands to her face and realized that it was no longer as hot as before… Seeing that he no longer paid attention to her, she felt more relaxed and, at the same time, a little… disappointed…
That tiny cup of caramel pudding soon got polished off. He looked at the time, stood up, and prepared to head over to the conference room.
Before he left, he took a gander at the progress bar on her side—87%.
He pulled out another disk and placed it in front of her. “When the screen displays 100%, the disk will automatically pop up. After that, you just have to change it to this one. Understand?”
“… Yes, I got it.” She nodded.
He then opened the door and left.
The silly robot watched the frosted glass door close.
Seconds and minutes passed while she obediently waited for the progress bar to slowly change before it was finally completed. She then replaced the popped up disk with a new one, restarting the entire progress from 1% to 100%.
The downloading of information from the new disk eventually completed but the man had yet to return…
Do I continue doing this? She stared at the remaining disks, feeling a little conflicted.
As the sky gradually darkened, it became noisy outside the office. Perhaps it was because it was time to knock off, everyone began to relax and their voices naturally got louder.
She could faintly hear Lu Lu yakking away, though she had no clue what she was talking about. She shifted closer toward the doorway, wanting to listen to the conversation when something fell off right then.
She turned to look… Oh, the USB cable in my ear has fallen out…
Will I get scolded…? It should be fine, right? I’ll just plug it in again…
“What a harrowing day it was…” a young man said, “Sis Cheryl, aren’t you leaving? Haha, Sis Cheryl wants to stay behind to be grounded by the devil king….”
“What can I do? The meeting hasn’t ended; there’s a time difference between here and the overseas companies. Besides, surely one of us secretaries has to be around when he returns.”
“Alan, you’re lucky that you were Director Pei’s accompanying assistant. Now that she has left, you don’t have much work since you’ve just transferred over…”
“Hey, she’s already gone. Why are you still addressing her as ‘Director Pei’? Don’t let the devil hear you… He has been eating pudding for three days straight. It frightens me witless…”
“Haha! Look at your cowardly self!” Lu Lu’s laughter floated by.
“Am I the only coward? Lu Lu, aren’t you scared, too? Your legs were shaking when you delivered the pudding to him, right? Hahahaha…”
“Hey, hey, hey… Alan! You deliver it next time if you dare, then!”
“Sis Lu Lu, I’m wrong…”
“Hmph!”
“Quit bickering, you two, and watch out. He may hear you if he returns…”
……
From their conversation, Gu Anbao gradually understood that the devil king… they were referring to… was him…
A feeling of injustice and indignation for the man immediately surged within her…
That’s too much!
How could they give him such a nickname?!
He’s clearly an extraordinarily handsome man-god! He is serious about his work, and he’s beyond exceptional…! Although… his temper… doesn’t seem to be very good…
She recalled how he had smashed the phone.
… It’s probably because of work problems. Still, I haven’t seen him flaring up at any of his subordinates… How sad would he be if he were to know that they had given him such a nickname…
She… began to pity him.
By the time everything ended, it was already nine o’clock in the evening.
Pei Lijun’s sudden departure had caused an uproar in the industry. Many partner companies were worried about whether or not RK could fulfill their previously agreed-upon terms as stated in their contracts. Ferrand Technologies was not the first company to ask, nor would it be the last.
A satisfactory response must be given to them in regards to the various little aftermath issues.
His throat hurt a little and his neck felt very uncomfortable after speaking so much… On top of that, he had only slept for a mere three hours last night.
As he rubbed his temples, he felt the urgent need to return home for a good night’s rest.
Deciding against driving himself home due to his exhaustion, he called his secretary to hail him a cab, instead. And so, just like that, he left the company without returning to his office.
Back home, the man practically dozed off the moment his head hit the pillow. His head felt very heavy and there seemed to be… a little ringing in his ears, too.
In his trance, he heard his phone ringing. He peeled his eyes half open and felt around for his phone.
It was two o’clock in the morning.
“What’s the matter…” A hoarse gloomy male voice rang out… Anyone would be in a bad mood as well, after being suddenly woken up in the middle of the night.
Cheryl’s trembling voice could be heard from the other end. “I’m sorry, Director Chen… I know it’s very late now b-but… I think it’s best if you… come down to the company now…”
The man stiffened slightly. Did something happen?
