My brother is an Idol - Chapter 104
Chapter 104
After the meeting with President Kim, Hyojun murmured to Hyunsuk in shock, “Wow, Hyunsuk… I had no idea you were…”
Jiwoo added, “Oh my god! I still don’t understand. Just… what happened?”
Kiwook replied, “Well, it’s quite simple, really. Our Hyunsuk is a super-rich dude and now our boss as well. He owns us now, right?”
Hyunsuk shook his head.
“Oh, come on. You don’t have to say it like that… you’re embarrassing me.”
Still in disbelief, Hyunsuk said, “Gosh… I knew you were planning something, Hyunsuk, but still… this is beyond my imagination. I mean, you are… did you know, Kiwook?”
Kiwook shook his head.
“No, not to this extent anyway… I didn’t realize he was this big of a deal. I did ask him about it though because I thought it was strange. I suspected he might have some kind of a connection to Shuineung Group…”
“Wow… so Kiwook, you sort of suspected it, yet you still didn’t tell the rest of us?”
Kiwook waved his hand as he explained, “I only found out very recently…”
“Just wow…”
“And I guess President Kim just won the lottery.”
“So… what will happen to us now?”
“I think Hyunsuk has a plan for us… right?”
Hyunsuk nodded, “Yup. I do.”
“What is it?”
“I can’t tell you right now. I still need to talk to the people at Shuineung Group headquarters before I can confirm things.”
“Hmm… of course, sir. You own us now, so whatever you say.”
Hyunsuk shook his head again.
“Come on, guys! Stop it! Stop making fun of me!”
“Oh, no! We aren’t making fun of you, sir! We are just showing you our respect! Real respect!”
Jiwoo looked truly impressed. He stood next to Kiwook and asked all kinds of questions. It was a huge surprise to Jiwoo to find out that Hyunsuk was the son of the CEO of Shuineung Group. They had spent so much time together when they studied abroad and yet he never knew.
Jiwoo continued to ask many questions to Hyunsuk, who looked resigned. Hyunsuk had been dreading the day when Jiwoo would find out the truth about him.
Hyojun and Kiwook grinned at Hyunsuk and walked ahead of him. Hyojun said to Kiwook, “President Kim looked like he was relieved, right?”
“Yeah, and it makes sense. He wanted to quit this business next year after our contract ends.”
“What do you think? How do you feel?”
“Me?”
“Yeah. How are you doing?”
“… I just miss Hyoyoung.”
“… Crazy jerk. No matter what I ask you, your answer always involves Hyoyoung.”
“I can’t help it. She’s all I think about, all the time.”
Hyojun didn’t reply to him. He just continued to walk, remembering their meeting with President Kim.
President Kim was brief and direct. He informed the four members how he had sold the company to the Shuineung Group. He also revealed that Hyunsuk was the son of the Shuineung Group’s CEO.
Hyunsuk explained the details of the sale, and the conditions the members had to follow.
“Firstly, you guys, including myself, all need to remain members of The M until the end of next year. That’s when our contract ends.”
President Kim looked at each of the guys and added, “This was one of the conditions I requested. I thought… this would be the best way to protect you guys. I feel awful that I am leaving you when you guys are having such a rough time right now…”
President Kim seemed very emotional as he continued, “Umm… I am so sorry that I am abandoning you when you need me the most, and that I haven’t been of much help through all this… But… there was nothing I could do… Things went bad so fast.”
Hyunsuk replied, “Sir, there is no need for you to apologize. We all understand.”
Hyunsuk especially felt a bit guilty because he was the one who made sure President Kim stayed abroad longer than expected. President Kim looked at Hyunsuk so gratefully that the other members, who knew the truth, had to try their best not to laugh.
But President Kim took their expressions as grimaces. He stammered, “I understand why you would be upset about all this… It’s all my fault. I admit it. I mean….”
Kiwook interrupted him, “Sir, you can just forget about the past. Why don’t you continue with the current topic…”
“Oh, alright. Umm… where was I, Hyunsuk?”
“You haven’t really said anything yet, sir. You just said that this sale will be good for us.”
“Oh, did I? Yes, that’s right. This will be the only way to stop my stupid ex-friend, President Shim. Having a giant corporation as headquarters will deter him for sure. Shuineung Group will be very helpful to your career as well. So I will be selling all of my shares to the group. As this agency’s worth grows, your shares will be worth more too. They told me that you have the option of keeping your shares or selling them. Since I was the major shareholder, Shuineung Group only needs my portion to take over the company…”
Jiwoo suddenly raised his hand and asked, “Boss, I don’t understand what you are saying. Share? What is that? We have shares too?”
“Oh, Jiwoo… Umm…”
President Kim seemed awkward. He wasn’t sure how to explain the sales process to Jiwoo.
Just then, Kiwook offered to help.
“Here is a simplified version. President Kim is selling his 70% share of this agency to the Shuineung Group, which means that the Chinese group will now have control over this company. The rest of the shares, 30%, belong to us and Hyojun’s father. It is a good thing since if this company becomes worth more, that means our shares will be worth more too. Good for us. But since the Chinese company will own 70%, it is essentially the new owner of this agency… and that means that President Shim won’t be able to threaten us easily. That must be what Hyunsuk hoped for.”
Jiwoo nodded, “Oh, I got it now! So we will now have a powerful company to back us up, right?”
“Exactly.”
“Wow, you are a scary guy, Hyunsuk.”
Kiwook nodded, “I know. Now I understand why he was on his phone all the time. I thought he was a spy or something. Like a corporate spy who sells agency secrets.”
President Kim looked confused. He looked at the members and asked, “Huh? Did you guys figure something out already?”
The four guys shook their heads, and Hyojun assured President Kim, “No, sir. Nothing like that… It’s just that Hyunsuk would often go into his room and talk to people on the cellphone every time something happened… and when he got out of his room, he would offer us a solution to the problem… We thought Hyunsuk was just a very smart guy with a wide network or something. Well, I guess we were sort of right.”
“Oh, I see… anyway, back to our original topic…”
“Yes, sir. Go on.”
“We had to make this sale happen fast so… Tomorrow afternoon, someone from Shuineung Group will be here to sign the contract.”
“What? That fast? Is that even possible?”
“Well, this is the first time I am selling a company, so I don’t know… but Hyunsuk told me it’s all good. Hyunsuk prepared everything and the Chinese headquarters had the contract ready… All I was told was to say yes or no.”
“Wow, that’s crazy. You are selling a company, yet it feels like you are just selling a chair or something…”
“I know…”
“It’s unbelievable.”
While the members looked impressed, President Kim continued with an uncomfortable expression, “And…”
After a big gulp, he said to the guys, “As soon as we sign the contract tomorrow, we will be releasing the news to the media.”
