Mu Cidian held Xin Zaozao’s hand as they returned home.
Once back, Xin Zaozao sat on the sofa watching some programs.
She hardly ever took the time to pause and rest like this.
Sometimes, she truly felt tired of this hectic life.
She glanced to find Mu Cidian organising all the groceries they had bought today.
He put things away one by one.
After that, he started to clean up around the house.
He was very meticulous in his work.
The house was rather large.
At over 200 square meters, he would clean and dust every corner.
By the time he finished cleaning, it was almost time to start cooking.
He tied on an apron.
He looked perfectly domesticated.
Who could have imagined that a man like Mu Cidian would one day turn out this way?
Xin Zaozao set down the remote and walked towards the open-plan kitchen.
Mu Cidian looked up at her.
“What will we have for lunch?”
“Steamed fish, garlic shrimp, egg foo young, dry-fried string beans, stir-fried bok choy, and duck soup,” explained Mu Cidian.
“Do we really need that much food for the two of us?” asked Xin Zaozao.
“The portions I make are small,” Mu Cidian explained.
Xin Zaozao nodded.
She turned to leave.
“Xin Zaozao,” Mu Cidian suddenly called out to her.
Xin Zaozao turned around.
“Would you like to cook together?”
Xin Zaozao furrowed her brows.
“I can teach you.”
Xin Zaozao thought for a moment, “I can give it a try.”
Mu Cidian gave a small smile.
His lips were quite thin, and the upward curve was very charming.
After washing his hands and wiping them clean with a towel, he took Xin Zaozao’s hand and said, “I’ve prepared the fish, but the shrimps still need to be deveined.”
Xin Zaozao watched and learned from him.
Mu Cidian showed Xin Zaozao, step by step, how to devein the shrimp.
Xin Zaozao followed his instructions conscientiously.
Although her life hadn’t been the happiest from a young age, she truly hadn’t done much housework.
She wasn’t quite sure how to do it.
This must have been a whimsical moment for her.
She was a quick learner.
There were only eight shrimps in total. The task was swiftly completed by the two of them.
After that, Mu Cidian taught Xin Zaozao how to make minced garlic.
“I can’t stir it,” complained Xin Zaozao as she tried to stir the garlic using the blender. No matter what she tried, it simply didn’t work.
Mu Cidian put down what he was doing, scooped his hand around her, and took the blender from her hands. After inspecting the device, he said, “It’s stuck here.”
He cleared the obstruction, added some garlic into the blender, and started stirring successfully.
“Let me do it,” Xin Zaozao took the initiative.
Mu Cidian handed it over to her.
However, even as he handed it over, he didn’t let go of her.
The two of them continued in this position, with him holding her close.
Xin Zaozao shifted her body a little, feeling a bit awkward, “You should go and do your own thing.”
“Alright,” Mu Cidian nodded.
At that moment, he leaned down to kiss her neck gently.
Xin Zaozao’s heart trembled.
A wave of goosebumps erupted from where his lips had brushed her skin, tingling in the aftermath.
Her lips were pursed tightly.
Mu Cidian didn’t linger.
He turned around to pick string beans.
Although the two of them didn’t speak very much, nor did they interact extensively, the moment was extraordinarily warm.
It rather felt like they were a couple enjoying a domestic moment at home…
“Ouch!” Xin Zaozao suddenly shrieked.
Mu Cidian immediately dropped the string beans, “What happened?”
Xin Zaozao held out her hand. There was a cut on her index finger, from which blood was oozing.
Mu Cidian quickly washed the blood off her hand with water.
Xin Zaozao tried to endure the pain.
Mu Cidian asked, “How did you cut yourself?”
“I saw the blender getting stuck again, tried to unclog it with my hand, and accidentally cut myself…” Xin Zaozao explained somewhat ruefully.
Mu Cidian had done the same thing earlier. She was merely following his lead.
Mu Cidian appeared a bit helpless.
After cleaning up her wound, the cut on her index finger continued to seep beads of blood.
Suddenly, Mu Cidian grabbed her finger and put it in his mouth.
Xin Zaozao watched him, “What are you doing?”
It seemed as though he even licked it a little with his tongue.
Xin Zaozao’s face flushed a bit.
She commanded, “Let me go.”
Such an action… was rather provocative.
Mu Cidian let go of Xin Zaozao.
He defended himself, “Saliva can disinfect. It’s the truth.”
Xin Zaozao ignored him.
Mu Cidian led her to the sofa.
He found the first-aid kit from their home, and using iodine, he cleaned her wound. Fortunately, the wound wasn’t too deep, so tetanus shots were not required.
The wound was disinfected and then bandaged neatly.
Throughout all this, Xin Zaozao observed Mu Cidian’s every move.
Mu Cidian seemed proficient in anything he did. His fingers were long and slender, with noticeable joints. They were not as skinny as they were when she first met him. His fingernails were neatly trimmed and his hands appeared clean. When he was dressing her wound, his fingers moved deftly. Everything was properly done and appeared very clean and orderly.
After he finished bandaging, he tidied up the first-aid kit neatly again.
He told her, “Please wait here for lunch. It’ll be ready soon.”
Xin Zaozao nodded.
Mu Cidian turned around and went back to the kitchen.
Xin Zaozao sat on the sofa, watching Mu Cidian cook with his head bowed.
She turned her gaze.
She thought that everyone has different facets.
In different environments, they show the most appropriate side of themselves.
Regarding this, Mu Cidian was simply the best.
After a while,
Mu Cidian finished preparing lunch.
He set the dishes on the dining table.
Perhaps Mu Cidian had obsessive-compulsive disorder. He would place the dishes at specific positions on the table, making sure no traces of food were anywhere else other than the designated areas. He liked to arrange the dishes inside the plates neatly in a particular manner.
A meal by Mu Cidian could turn out to be a work of art.
At this point, Xin Zaozao wondered how she should begin eating without ruining Mu Cidian’s sculpture.
At this moment, Mu Cidian took the initiative to serve her some food.
He picked a piece of boneless fish and put it on her plate.
Xin Zaozao ate a bite with her chopsticks.
“Is it good?” Mu Cidian asked.
“Yes.”
Mu Cidian served her a piece of garlic shrimp.
Xin Zaozao ate it too.
Next, he served her a variety of dishes.
Xin Zaozao asked, “Aren’t you going to eat?”
“I like watching you eat,” Mu Cidian’s mouth curved into a small smile.
Xin Zaozao felt a little embarrassed.
All right.
As expected, she was not comfortable with Mu Cidian being so attentive to her.
“You go ahead and eat, stop bothering about me, I know how to eat.”
“Okay.” Mu Cidian nodded his head.
And began serving himself food.
The two of them ate at a leisurely pace.
Indeed, Mu Cidian had made only a small portion of each dish, so the table was hardly left with any leftovers after they finished eating.
Xin Zaozao was full as well.
It had been a long while since she had eaten this much.
She watched as Mu Cidian began to clear the table.
Mu Cidian was meticulous in everything he did, and that included washing the dishes.
He made sure to wipe the countertop dry thoroughly.
Once he finished washing the dishes, Mu Cidian went to clean his hands.
At this moment, Xin Zaozao was lounging on the sofa watching TV.
Mu Cidian took out the anti-inflammatory medication he had gotten from the community hospital that morning, he turned to Xin Zaozao and asked, “Can you help me apply the medication?”
Xin Zaozao glanced at him.
Perhaps her threats from yesterday had done some good.
Today, it seemed like Mu Cidian was trying hard to get closer to her in every possible way.
Whether he volunteered to help her with something, or asked her to help him with something.
Mu Cidian had already prepared everything.
All she needed to do was use a cotton swab to apply the medication to his wounds.
Mu Cidian was seated properly on the sofa.
“Lower your head a bit.” Xin Zaozao instructed.
With his tall stature, it was tricky for her to apply the medication when he sat up so straight.
Hearing her instructions, Mu Cidian bent down obediently, bringing his face closer to Xin Zaozao.
Xin Zaozao gently dabbed at his wound with the cotton swab.
The two of them were very close to each other.
She realized that it had been a long time since she had looked at Mu Cidian with such close proximity.
Usually, when they got into bed, they hardly looked at each other.
At this moment.
Mu Cidian’s face was right in front of hers.
Mu Cidian was actually quite attractive.
Since his release from prison, his hair had grown longer, his skin was fairer, he had gained some weight, and it looked as though he had recaptured his original handsome looks.
Mu Cidian’s eyelashes were also surprisingly long.
His eyes were half-closed.
Not particularly large, but not small either.
His eyes were perfectly proportioned with his facial features.
His eyes were pitch black.
They appeared very deep, perhaps due to his maturity over the years.
His intense gaze was always focused on her.
Xin Zaozao felt somewhat uncomfortable under Mu Cidian’s gaze.
“Stop looking at me.” Xin Zaozao instructed.
It appeared as if Mu Cidian had chuckled slightly.
He lowered his gaze.
And his gaze fell on Xin Zaozao’s fair neck, as well as the hint of her feminine curves that could be seen underneath her loose loungewear.
Xin Zaozao hadn’t noticed where Mu Cidian’s gaze had wandered off to.
She applied the medication to Mu Cidian’s wounds with great seriousness.
At that moment, she truly admired how ruthless Wan Quan could be. How could she have been so cruel to her own son!
The vicious scratches on his face… If they were to leave a scar on Mu Cidian’s handsome face… She would feel it’s a real waste.
She carefully applied the medication to all of Mu Cidian’s wounds, including those on his neck and chest.
After finishing applying the medication.
Xin Zaozao got up to leave.
At that moment however, she was abruptly stopped in her tracks as Mu Cidian gripped her hand tightly.
Xin Zaozao frowned.
The next second, she felt Mu Cidian’s vast body pressing her down onto the sofa.
“What are you doing?” Xin Zaozao furrowed her brows.
In broad daylight? She was not in the mood.
Mu Cidian didn’t answer, he just continued to press down on her, leaning in to get closer to Xin Zaozao. His face approached hers, and their staring eyes met at a close distance.
Just as Xin Zaozao was about to say something.
Mu Cidian suddenly kissed her lips.
“…” Xin Zaozao felt his slightly cold lips on hers.
Didn’t he say that he wouldn’t kiss her on the lips?
Did Mu Cidian forget?
But at that moment, to her surprise, she allowed it.
She allowed Mu Cidian to gently stroke her lips, she allowed him to pry her lips open…
The very next second.
Mu Cidian abruptly pulled away.
Xin Zaozao looked at Mu Cidian, startled.
For a moment, she felt a sense of loss in her heart.
It was as if she had wanted something, but failed to get it…
Mu Cidian straightened up. He said, “I had garlic at lunch.”
Xin Zaozao hurriedly covered her mouth.
So, Mu Cidian was expressing his distaste for her.
“I’ll go rinse my mouth.” Mu Cidian stood up quickly.
Xin Zaozao watched as Mu Cidian rushed off.
Xin Zaozao bit her lip.
She got up and walked into the bedroom.
Mu Cidian came out after rinsing his mouth and even decided to take a shower.
When it came to cleanliness, Mu Cidian was absolutely serious!
When he came out, Xin Zaozao had already changed into her outdoor clothes.
“Are you going out?” Mu Cidian asked.
“I’m going to work.”
“I thought you didn’t have to work today?”
“Something came up.”
“Alright.” Mu Cidian smiled faintly.
Just like that, he was always accepting of anything, without any conditions.
Xin Zaozao didn’t say anything further, she took her bag and walked towards the doorway.
Mu Cidian walked her to the door.
Xin Zaozao changed into her shoes.
Mu Cidian watched her from the doorway.
As she was leaving the apartment, Xin Zaozao suddenly turned around and sealed a kiss on Mu Cidian’s lips.
Mu Cidian was taken aback.
Clearly, he was stunned at that moment.
Xin Zaozao told him, “Good behavior will be rewarded.”
Mu Cidian slightly pursed his lips.
After uttering those words, Xin Zaozao turned around and left.
Mu Cidian, however, continued to stand at the doorway.
It seemed as though all his senses were still focused on the kiss that Xin Zaozao had placed on his lips.
Despite the brief contact, his heart was throbbing. Every thought of it made his heart race uncontrollably.
He held back.
A long while later, it seemed as though he heard the buzz of a text message on his phone.
He returned to his room to retrieve his phone.
There was a text message notification on his phone screen, indicating a deposit of 50,000 yuan in his bank account.
Mu Cidian looked at the message, then suddenly smiled.
Was this the reward Xin Zaozao was talking about?
Indeed, it was very fitting for their current relationship.
