Chapter 18: Doing Good Deeds

Shen Zhe hesitated for a moment but didn’t do it in the end.
Doing a good thing meant helping those in need. Breaking someone’s legs was certainly inappropriate.
Shen Zhe thought of Lu Zihan, who had been terribly beaten and probably couldn’t walk anymore. Shen Zhe could carry the guy to his dormitory.
Lu Zihan asked for trouble first, but he held no grudges at all and even helped him… That was certainly a good deed!
“I’ll go to him after school…”
Shen Zhe was moved after he came up with the plan.
He was indeed much more positive after he got the notebook.
Ding-dong! Ding-dong!
After a morning of meditation, the school was finally over. Geng Xing left as quickly as he had arrived.
Such teachers were the students’ favorites because they had few demands… But of course, they didn’t really care if the students were learning, either.
“Shen Zhe, where are you going after school?”
Wang Qing was worried for a whole class. He was finally reassured after realizing that his friend was not going to harm him.
It was a miracle that his friend had walked out of Mr. Xin Qi’s office alive after getting three points in the class quiz…
They had been classmates for years, but Wang Qing didn’t know that Shen Zhe had such an ability.
“To do good things!”
Shen Zhe waved his hand and stood up.
He had to hurry, or there would be no good things to do if Lu Zihan had left on his own.
Wang Qing was stunned. “Good things?”
“Good things!” Shen Zhe nodded and asked, “Are you coming with me?”
“I suppose…”
Wang Qing was rather curious.
His friend had played polo, football or fished after school, but never did he do good things…
It was rather weird.
Ling Xueru, who was packing up her books, frowned when she overheard their conversation.
What was Shen Zhe up to?
After only one day, he had driven a teacher out of the school, made another teacher angry, and brutalized a fellow student… “What is he doing now?”
“I must follow him. He can’t cause any more trouble…”
Ling Xueru gritted her teeth and followed them out of the classroom.
Shen Zhe was in Class Three, and Lu Zihan was in Class Two. Their classrooms were next to each other, so Shen Zhe soon arrived at his destination.
“I’m looking for Lu Zihan in your class,” said Shen Zhe to one of the students present.
“He asked for a leave and didn’t come today…”
It was a girl who obviously liked Lu Zihan. She was disappointed that Lu Zihan was not present.
“He asked for a leave?”
Shen Zhe was at a loss for words. “Are we allowed to do that?”
He had been meaning to ask for a leave. But was asking for one allowed?
“He’s a top ten student and has illuminated seven stars. It’s totally fine even if he asks for a half-month leave…” said the girl.
“Chen Feng, don’t talk to him. He’s… Shen Zhe from Class Three…”
Another girl approached her and said to her in a low voice.
“You’re talking about the tailender?” The girl was rather stunned.
It was obvious that Shen Zhe was quite infamous in the school.
“Of course!”
The second girl lowered her head.
“You’re the last place… Why are you looking for Lu Zihan?” the girl said, “You’re not in the same world at all. Stop interrupting him, or I’ll show you no mercy…”
Seeing that the girl was defending Lu Zihan, even though she was too ugly for him, Shen Zhe shook his head and said, “I only want to do good deeds. I don’t intend to make friends with him…”
Since Lu Zihan was not there, it was impossible for the good deed to take place.
It did make sense. Lu Zihan was clearly a proud man who valued his appearance. He certainly wouldn’t return to the classroom after he had been deformed.
It was too humiliating for him.
“Are you really going to do good deeds?”
Wang Qing thought that Shen Zhe was joking, but he seemed to be serious.
“Of course!” Shen Zhe said solemnly, “Every man of honor and integrity should do good things!”
“Then… Why are you looking for Lu Zihan? He’s handsome and rich. What else would he need?” asked Wang Qing.
Shen Zhe paused for a moment but did not divulge that the guy had been deformed by him.
It wasn’t a good thing to expose someone’s secret.
“Doing good things means helping those in need. If you really want to do good things, there are a lot of beggars outside. You can help them!”
Although he didn’t know what his friend was up to, Wang Qing still proposed solemnly.
There were a lot of people in need of help.
Lu Zihan was rich, handsome and had good grades. Did he need any help?
Shen Zhe nodded.
He had neglected the beggars. Helping them was certainly a good thing!
While the elderly walking across the street were rare, miserable beggars were everywhere.
He wondered why he didn’t think about it earlier.
“Take me to see the beggars!”
Wang Qing and Shen Zhe left the campus.
“The beggars? Are they going to take advantage of them?”
Ling Xueru only caught the last part of their conversation because she was too far. She frowned.
What was Shen Zhe up to?
No, she had to follow them and check.
The Green Abyss Academy was located in the most prosperous part of the city. There was an enormous mall right outside the campus. It wasn’t nearly as quiet and comfortable as the school.
The peddling and bickering all over the place were most refreshing.
They searched the street but found no beggars. Wang Qing said in embarrassment, “They probably don’t dare to show up because of the administration rules…”
Shen Zhe agreed with him.
According to the administration rules, no solicitors or beggars were allowed to appear on the street.
“Gu! Gu! Gu!”
Shen Zhe’s belly made fulminating sounds.
“Should we have lunch first?” Wang Qing scratched his head.
“Okay!” Shen Zhe nodded and said, “We’ve got griddled food!”
The food he had yesterday was delicious. Also, since his griddle had been broken by Mr. Xin Qi, he needed to buy another one. Lu Zihan promised that the herbs would be delivered in the afternoon. He needed the griddle to make herb liquid for Zhao Chen and the rest of them.
“Alright!” Wang Qing was not picky about food.
They soon found a restaurant and ordered a gridded spicy lobster. However, its price was fifty wen.
In the school, it was thirty wen, with complimentary salt, oil, soy sauce, pepper powder, etc.
It was truly expensive!
This business must be very profitable.
However, fifty wen was not a lot for the young master of the Shen family. Besides, he had just swindled Lu Zihan out of two taels of silver the day before.
They were enjoying the food, when a wretched beggar approached them, as if he knew that Shen Zhe was looking for a beggar.
“Please give me some money. I haven’t had any food for days…” said the beggar earnestly with a ragged bowl.
“Is that so? Let’s have this together. Boss, give me another pair of chopsticks…”
His eyes glowing, Shen Zhe accepted him in a hurry.
He was trying to do a good thing, and a beggar had finally appeared. He couldn’t let the guy go easily.
“Sir, chopsticks are unnecessary… I only need two wen…”
The beggar waved his hand, and the coins in the bowl bounced, reminding Shen Zhe that he only accepted cash.
“I thought you had not eaten for days,” Shen Zhe frowned and said, “Let’s have this food together. Your dirt is not a problem for me!”
“I do appreciate your kindness, sir, but I only need two wen to buy something for myself…” The beggar smiled.
“Something to eat?” Shen Zhe frowned and said, “Griddled food, too?”
“If you’re generous enough, sir…” nodded the beggar.
“In that case…”
Shen Zhe hesitated for a moment and then gave the beggar a few coins. “Here are four wen. You will buy your food with two wen and and bring a serving for me. I don’t want it to be too spicy. Ask them to put more potatoes. Also, I want their griddle, too!”
“…” The beggar was speechless.
“Bro, can I refuse your money? Are you suggesting that I need to give 48 wen to you when I beg money from you?”
“You even want more potatoes and even their griddle… Are you trying to get me killed?”
“This is so unfair…”
