Li Qiao’s question silenced everyone in the car for a while.
Shang Yu responded to her question with more silence.
Li Qiao gave a lazy yawn. Her glistening sleepy eyes turned to the outside of the car window.
What kind of a man was he after all?
There were so many rumors about him and labels attached to him, yet Li Qiao felt that none of those captured who he really was.
At that moment, the phone in her pocket rang all of a sudden, breaking her out of her trance. It was only after she saw the caller ID that she remembered Tang Yiting, who she’d left in the pool room.
She darted a glance at Shang Yu and held the phone to her ear. “What’s the matter?”
Tang Yiting’s high-pitched voice immediately echoed inside of the car. “Where did you go? There’s no one in the Accounting Room. Come back quickly. Everyone’s waiting for you to have a drink with us. We don’t want to go home sober tonight.”
Along with Tang Yiting’s blabber, Li Qiao vaguely heard the thumping sound of someone kicking a door.
How should she explain? It was quite awkward…
Because she had accidentally put her phone on speaker when she’d pressed it to her ear.
After a moment of embarrassed silence in the already quiet car, Li Qiao replied in a deadpan tone, “You’ve got the wrong number.”
Then she hung up and turned off her phone altogether.
Tang Yiting was kicking the door of the Accounting Room in the Entertainment Center. Clueless, she was stunned by Li Qiao’s response.
Now, Shang Yu closed the file folder in his hands and put it next to his legs. He asked casually, “Did you come with a friend?”
Li Qiao stuck her phone back into her pocket and solemnly shook her head. “No. I don’t know who she is,” she said.
Shang Yu leaned back in a relaxed way and uncrossed his legs. He looked at her briefly before closing his eyes.
The light inside the car gave her a warm and cozy feeling. Li Qiao caught his glance and tilted her head while cracking an innocent smile.
…
The motorcade stopped outside of the villa of the Li Family in less than twenty minutes.
Before Li Qiao got out of the car, the man who was pretending to be asleep suddenly said in a hoarse voice, “Shang Lu will pay your family a visit tomorrow to apologize. He’s responsible for breaking off the engagement.”
Li Qiao paused and said to Shang Yu, “Ask him to come the day after tomorrow.”
All of her family members needed to be present for something as big as calling off an engagement.
Her big brother, third brother, and mother might not be able to make it back by tomorrow morning.
The man slowly opened his eyes upon hearing her response. Those bloodshot eyes made him seem particularly worn out.
Li Qiao opened the door and got out without giving him a chance to respond. With one hand stuck in her pocket, she held the door with the other hand before closing it and saying, “Thank you for taking me home, Master Yan. We will see each other the day after tomorrow.”
The girl closed the car door and walked briskly into the house.
Her perfume lingered inside of the car.
The driver furtively glanced at the rearview mirror and saw that the man in the back seat was staring vacantly in the direction the girl had just left.
Should he start driving or not?
Moments later, the driver heard a soft sigh after Li Qiao’s figure disappeared into the night. “Clear my schedule for the day after tomorrow.”
The driver replied awkwardly, “Master, the old Master asked you to go back to Pama the day after tomorrow.”
“Clear my schedule!”
“Yes!”
The driver didn’t dare to say anything more. Nevertheless, he was certain that the young girl definitely had something to do with his Master changing the schedule!
Before, the Master had told the Second Master that he had to deal with the engagement matter on his own. Had he changed his mind and decided to visit the Li Family himself because of what the girl had said to him?
The motorcade hit the road again. The driver took the opportunity to say, “Young Master Qiu messaged me just now. He asked us to gather in the Back Room.”
“Okay.”
…
Li Qiao was sitting in the dining room and quietly having breakfast at ten o’clock the next morning.
Her second brother Li Yan sat across from her and fiddled with his phone for a moment and then said, “Mom’s coming home at 3:00 p.m. today. Our big brother just got off the plane, and third brother said he’ll get here by evening.”
After that, Li Yan stared at Li Qiao and asked, “Did Shang Lu tell you when he’ll come here to formally call off the engagement?”
