Chapter 12: Open Recognition
When he heard Gu Feiyan’s description of his height, clothes, eyes, hair, and even his sword, Jun Jiuchen’s cold and lonely face became even colder.
He was still wearing the silver mask, but he had already changed into a set of mysterious tight clothes. His tall and straight body was concealed within the dense tree branches, yet it did not lose its grace and nobility.
He looked at her as he listened to her babble. His cold gaze followed her little face down, studying it bit by bit as if he were examining his prey.
Yesterday night, he wasn’t in the mood to seriously look at her. But today, he bumped into her again. He was finally able to clearly see what the woman who poisoned him looked like.
She could be considered a woman with soft and pink skin, but she was too thin, just like a young girl.
Not only did she have the ability to escape from him, she even dared to use Cheng Yifei’s life as a wager to threaten Madam Lin with a personal examination of her medicine. It was truly surprising. The most surprising thing was that Cheng Yifei actually did not die after drinking the medicine she made and instead recovered.
Not long later, a guard in his early twenties arrived. This man was none other than Mang Zhong, the man who had saved Jun Jiuchen that night. Mang Zhong nimbly avoided Gu Feiyan and the others as he quietly landed beside Jun Jiuchen.
“Your Highness, we’ve already analyzed the dregs. There is no Xia Su Zi, but star anise was added. The star anise was the first medicine Imperial Physician Su used. There is absolutely something wrong with this medicine woman!”
Jun Jiuchen said softly, “Name? Origin?”
Mang Zhong not only stole the dregs as fast as he could, he also investigated Gu Feiyan with the fastest speed. “Your Highness, by coincidence, she’s Young General Qi’s fiancée, Gu Feiyan.”
Jun Jiuchen’s usually calm eyes flashed with surprise. “Qi Yu’s fiancée?”
Mang Zhong quickly explained, “They were engaged since they were young, fifteen years ago. The Gu and Qi families hadn’t had any contact for seven or eight years, so people rarely talked about this anymore. Judging from the attitude of the Qi family, they probably wouldn’t accept it. ”
Jun Jiuchen pondered for a moment, then asked, “Could the culprit be from the Qi Family?”
This time, the reason why he did not publicly obstruct was that he was unsure who the real culprit was. He did not want to alert the enemy.
Imperial Father was very ill and the crown prince was young. He had another heavy responsibility and his ambition did not rest on the throne. The balance of power between the Cheng and Qi armies was the greatest guarantee for the stability of Sky Flame Nation’s military and political system. He would not allow any trouble to befall them.
Who was it that had the guts to act so brazenly?
Jun Jiuchen pondered, then asked, “What about the fake prescription?”
Mang Zhong then reported everything that had happened during his surveillance in the military camp. Jun Jiuchen seemed surprised once again. He nodded. “That’s great.”
Mang Zhong also felt that Gu Feiyan’s way of doing things was excellent, extremely clever. But, seeing His Highness nod of approval, he was still surprised. He had served His Highness for so long, this was the first time he saw His Highness acknowledge a woman.
At this moment, Gu Feiyan had already explained everything she could and was in the midst of telling the people in the justice courts that she had ruined the assassin’s plans and was in danger. She only felt relieved when the justice courts promised to send people to protect her secretly for a few days.
Seeing his master staring at Gu Feiyan, Mang Zhong hesitated for a long time before reminding him, “Your Highness, Imperial Physician Luo has been waiting for a long time. The poison in your body must be removed as soon as possible. Please return to the palace immediately. ”
Jun Jiuchen was keenly aware of his own body, so he spoke in a low voice, “Keep an eye on the justice courts. If there is any progress, report to me immediately.”
In order to trace the assassin, the justice courts had to first find out how the information regarding the medicine had been leaked from the palace. From this, they would naturally find out who had come in contact with the prescription.
Not long after Jun Jiuchen left, Gu Feiyan also returned to the city. As her carriage passed through the bustling streets, she breathed in the lively smell of the fireworks in the new world and felt much better. The Ice Sea Spiritual Realm was a lonely and sparsely populated place, but she was a lively person.
Gu Feiyan got off at the palace gate and walked to the imperial pharmacy, humming a little tune all the way. However, she soon discovered that something was amiss. The surrounding palace maids and eunuchs were all looking at her, pointing and whispering amongst themselves.
Did something happen?
