“Fine, I won’t go. Do something for me.” Janice took out a card and handed it to the driver.
Shannon sat limply in the law firm for the entire day, crying till there were almost no more tears left.
“Casey, I know you need some peace and quiet, but it’s already nine o’clock at night. Shall we grab some food together?” Pete knocked on Shannon’s door, his voice full of worry.
Shannon got up dizzily, opened the door and followed him out.
“Someone introduced me to a new Russian restaurant on Peaks Street. I—”
“Pete, send me home please. I don’t feel like eating. I just want to sleep.” Shannon didn’t have an appetite. She just wanted to go home and have a good night’s sleep.
She felt like she was about to collapse. All she wanted was to sleep; she would only be able to clear her mind temporarily by sleeping.
“Have a good rest. I’ll make you something to eat when you wake up.” Pete smiled and sent Shannon home.
Shannon threw her bag aside and pulled out a bottle of red wine from her wine cabinet.
After drinking, Shannon fell asleep on the sofa in a daze. Her painful memories disappeared for a moment under the influence of alcohol.
Max’s car slowly drove into Janice’s estate.
Hearing the sound of the car, Janice smiled.
She walked back to the bedroom to put on the white lacy dress that she had just bought. She remembered Max’s gaze when he saw Shannon.
She knew she had to replace Shannon in Max’s heart, so she didn’t mind if she had to dress like Shannon.
As long as Max was hers, as long as they could get married.
“Max, you’re back. I noticed that you haven’t been resting well recently, so I’ve asked the chef to cook a more nutritious meal for you. I’ll bring it out for you.” Janice came down, looking as gentle as ever.
Max nodded coldly, took off his suit, and walked towards the dining room.
Janice looked at Max, and her eyes were filled with love. However, she was also extremely nervous, as she had added other ingredients into his food.
“Does the food taste strange? There are some herbs inside that are beneficial for sleep.” Janice explained in advance in order to dispel Max’s doubts.
Max was caught off guard. After eating the food, he went upstairs with Janice.
Janice deliberately stayed by Max’s side, and she leaned closer to him in a seductive pose.
“Max, can you stay here tonight?” Janice approached Max after taking a shower.
He suddenly felt hot all over and the woman beside him pressed her lips against his.
He suddenly felt his desire overtake him, and he carried Janice to the big bed.
Max hadn’t touched a woman in three years. He tore her clothes without any hesitation.
His large hands roamed around her body. Janice wrapped her arms around Max’s neck and kissed him passionately. It seemed that the medicine was effective.
Max suddenly smelled something, and Shannon’s face suddenly appeared in his mind.
He frowned and stopped what he was doing.
“Max, what’s wrong? You’re not…”
“Go to sleep first. I still have something on.” Max suddenly stood up.
Before Janice could react, she heard a loud door closing. She had drugged him, but he still managed to leave.
She hated this to the core, but there was nothing she could do.
Max sped away in his car. His mind was only filled with Shannon, and his body felt like it was about to explode.
He couldn’t help but drive to Shannon’s neighborhood and ring her doorbell.
Shannon was in a daze from her sleep, and hasn’t recovered from the alcohol.
She was instantly irritated when she heard the doorbell ring. “Pete, can you—”
Before she could finish speaking, Max entered the room and slammed the door shut.
“You? What are you doing here?” Shannon was in disbelief when she saw Max’s face.
She took a step back and shook her head. She must be drunk. She must be dreaming.
Max approached Shannon step by step. The wine bottles scattered in the living room told him that she had drank too much.
Shannon patted her head lightly, her body swaying slightly. She felt that everything in front of her was a dream.
He reached out to hug her, as she was about to fall, and his thin lips slowly approached her pink lips.
“Don’t… Don’t touch me…” Shannon struggled.
Even though she was drunk, her mind was still clear. She was afraid of Max.
“Where’s the bathroom?” Max suppressed his desire, his deep and cold voice carrying a hint of hoarseness.
Shannon raised her hand slowly. He let go of her and strode towards the bathroom, turning on the cold water to remain sober.
Janice had only added a small dose because she didn’t want to make Max suspicious.
Thus, Max could still maintain his consciousness. However, he didn’t know why he came here.
Shannon stood downstairs and suddenly felt that it was all very dramatic. Was she really not dreaming?
She staggered upstairs. The sound of running water in the bathroom really made her feel like she wasn’t dreaming.
Shannon leaned towards the bed. He was really here. What was he doing here?
She couldn’t figure it out, and her eyelids gradually became heavy. She fell asleep on the bed.
When Max came out of the bathroom, he found her lying crookedly on the bed. Her delicate cheeks were flushed, and her slender legs were resting on the bed. From her posture, he could tell that she was exhausted.
He positioned her properly, then covered her with the blanket.
The wall clock showed that it was already two in the morning. Max’s clothes were soaked, so he removed them and prepared to walk downstairs, but he suddenly turned around.
After standing by the bed for a while, he lifted the blanket and went to sleep with her.
The next day, a ray of sunlight shone through the window.
Shannon habitually turned around to avoid the glaring light and suddenly felt some warmth behind her.
She jumped out of bed abruptly, her eyes filled with surprise. Max? How did he fall asleep on her bed?
Seeing him completely naked, Shannon’s heart was beating even faster. She lowered her head and checked her clothes.
“Do you think you can reject me if I really wanted you?” A cold voice suddenly sounded from the bed.
Shannon looked at the person in front of her and was suddenly speechless. Why was he so shameless?
She remembered that she had been drinking at home yesterday. Then, why was Max here? She couldn’t remember anything after she got drunk.
“Max, you know that I can sue you for trespassing!” Shannon got down from the bed, a trace of anger in her beautiful eyes.
Max opened his cold eyes and looked at her. The way she looked when she just woke up was the same as she did back in the past.
“You were the one who wanted me to stay.” He sat up slowly and propped himself up with a pillow behind his back.
Shannon frowned and took two steps back. Why would she let him stay? Was this a joke?
“You don’t have to lie to me like this. I was definitely drunk, but no matter if I’m sober or not, I won’t keep a murderer in my home. Please leave!” Shannon gripped her clothes tightly, her tone sounding extremely distant..
