Chapter 35: Hiding in His Place

Perhaps he would think of her as a crazy woman. As a lawyer, she shouldn’t be so impulsive.
“President Zanders, bad news. There are reporters outside.” Just as Shannon turned to leave, the driver suddenly ran over with a nervous expression.
Shannon hated facing these reporters the most. Moreover, she was in such a sorry state, it wasn’t suitable for her to meet the reporters at all, and for a moment, she panicked.
“Try to hide first.” Pete saw the elevator door open and pushed Shannon in.
“Who is this brainless person who is stepping into the President’s private elevator? You…”
Jake cursed when he saw someone barging in, but turned speechless when he saw that it was Shannon.
When Shannon saw Max standing beside her, she felt like she had lost all hope in life. This day wasn’t getting any better.
“I lost the lawsuit, and there were reporters outside, so I came at the last minute to try and hide from them.” Shannon didn’t tell Max about Janice.
Max turned to look at her. Her hand was still covering her face, but her blood had already dyed her clothes red.
“Take your hand away.” Max approached Shannon and gently removed her hand.
“Are you stupid? You’re a lawyer, and yet you allowed people to injure you like this!” Max didn’t know why, but he couldn’t help but get angry when he saw the wound on her face.
Shannon was also filled with anger. She was indeed brainless. She had been schemed against, but she had obediently fallen into the trap.
“Call the doctor!” The elevator door opened, and Max pulled Shannon towards his office.
Jake immediately went to get a doctor. This was the first time Shannon had stepped into Max’s office.
She stepped on the soft carpet and surveyed her surroundings. Everything was black, including the sofa, coffee table, desk, and bookcases.
This office was cold and distant like he was.
She walked to the sofa and sat down. Since she wouldn’t be able to leave anytime soon, she might as well rest here.
She took a tissue from off the desk and wet it with the water on the table, wiping the blood off her hands. Suddenly, her gaze landed on the fish tank by the wall.
“Aren’t these two goldfishes very pretty? Put them in your office. That way, you can think of me when you’re working. Also, the green seaweed can soothe your tired eyes.”
Memories of the past came flooding back. The words she had said to him after buying the goldfishes rang in her ears.
Shannon froze, and her nose soured.
“Change your clothes first.” Max suddenly walked in front of Shannon and threw a shirt and a pair of slacks to her.
She held the clothes and looked down at herself. The bloodstains on the white professional suit indeed looked terrifying.
“Have all the fish I bought died?” Shannon suddenly asked.
Max suddenly stiffened. Those fish had indeed died long ago.
“If the fish die, they can be changed.” A cold voice sounded behind Shannon.
Shannon smirked coldly. She was being ridiculous.
“That’s right. I forgot that you were the one who taught me that people from the past are better, but for everything else, new replacements are better.” Shannon walked towards his lounge.
Max’s cold eyes flashed sharply. She was mocking him.
When Shannon entered the room, she suddenly realized that it was difficult to remove her clothes, as her zipper on her top was broken in the earlier scuffle.
She couldn’t reach the zipper no matter how hard she tried, and the waves of pain on her face were unbearable.
“My clothes are ruined. Do you have a pair of scissors here?” She had no choice but to walk out of the room.
Max got up and walked forward. Her hair was already tangled with her clothes.
“What are you doing?” Shannon became nervous when she saw Max reaching out his hand.
Max glanced at Shannon coldly and pulled her into the lounge.
“Which part of your body haven’t I seen before?” Max said coldly as he tore the zip’s seam.
Her perfect back was exposed to Max.
The image of the two of them together in the past suddenly appeared in his mind, and his body suddenly felt hot.
“Go out first.” Shannon felt the zipper was already opened, so she pushed him out of the door.
Max stood outside the door with a frown. Why was his body reacting to her?
It had been a few years and none of the women around him could trigger a physiological reaction in him.
Shannon changed into his clothes in the lounge and opened the door to look for her phone. She was anxious to get out, not wanting to be in the same room as Max.
But before she could get to her phone and answer Pete’s incoming call, Max got up, snatched her phone, and threw it aside.
“Your business partner is still surrounded by reporters. The doctor will be here soon. You’d better stay here obediently.” Max pulled Shannon to sit down and threw her a medical kit.
Shannon turned around and walked towards the French windows. There was indeed a group of people gathered downstairs, and Pete stood out among the reporters.
Pete meant well when he asked her to hide, and it was useless even if she went out there now.
She had to calm herself down and deal with the matter at hand, including kickstarting the appeal.
Shannon turned around and walked to the sofa, holding her phone as she prepared to apply the medicine on her face.
When Max saw the pain in her expression, he took the medicine from her hands, and then applied iodine to her wound.
Shannon didn’t refuse. She was already mentally and physically exhausted.
She could only hide here for the time being and wait for things to calm down before leaving.
Max’s actions were extremely gentle. All these years, she had never felt him treat her so considerately.
He slowly cleaned the blood off of her face, revealing her fair skin.
When the long cut appeared, Max instantly felt extremely irritated.
“Shannon, as a lawyer, how can you protect your client when you can’t even protect yourself?” He couldn’t help but raise his voice.
Shannon was already very anxious and upset, yet he still scolded her like this.
“The cup was thrown from the jury’s seat! How could I have known it was coming? I can’t predict the future!” Shannon met Max’s gaze and retorted.
Looking at her pink lips opening and closing, Max suddenly felt the urge to press his lips against hers.
He pinched her chin and approached her lips. Shannon’s eyes were filled with shock. What was he going to do?
“President, the doctor is here.” The door suddenly opened.
Shannon suddenly pushed Max away, a trace of panic flashing across her eyes.
“I’m sorry, President. I’ll definitely remember to knock next time. I…”
“No matter how much it costs, don’t leave a scar on her face.” Max interrupted Jake’s words and ordered the doctor.
The doctor went to clean Shannon’s wound. The wound was quite deep and it was actually a little troublesome to treat.
Shannon was in so much pain that tears kept forming in her eyes. She once again felt that she was in a sorry state.
She thought that she could handle everything, but when she returned to the city and met Max and Janice again, her thoughts were in a mess.
If it weren’t for the fact that she had lost control, she wouldn’t have lost so easily..
