Chapter 36: I Hate Being Rejected

“You have to take the medicine on time. The treatment has been delayed for some time, so in order to prevent tetanus, it’s best to give you an IV drip, but it seems a little inconvenient now.” The doctor looked around, a trace of doubt in his expression.
However, Shannon waved her hand to reject him. She had been through so many terrifying things, this injury was just a minor one.
“Then do the IV here. Go and tidy up the lounge.” Max ordered Jake in an authoritative tone.
Shannon suddenly got up from the sofa. Having an IV drip would take up too much time, and she really didn’t want to remain here.
“I…”
“Shut up and go lie down in the room now!” Max pointed at the lounge door, his gaze incomparably sharp.
Faced with his overbearing attitude, Shannon couldn’t reject him even if she wanted to.
“I still…”
She’d made up her mind to leave, but Max grabbed her hand and pulled her to the lounge.
The door was slammed shut and Shannon was pressed against the door.
“You know that I hate being rejected the most. If you dare to be disobedient again, I can’t guarantee that I won’t do anything overboard!” Max lowered his voice and warned her coldly.
Shannon struggled. Who was he to her? Why should she listen to him?
Seeing that she didn’t intend to listen to him, Max’s large hand wandered around her waist.
Shannon widened her eyes and her body stiffened.
What was he trying to do? And in here? There were people outside! He wouldn’t be that emboldened, would he?
Just as she thought that he wouldn’t dare, his hand had already slid around her bra. If he released it gently, her bra would drop.
“I concede. I’ll take the drip now.” Shannon immediately changed her stance.
She had no choice but to give in since she was in his territory. Anyway, it was for the sake of her health, so it was good that she got the IV too.
Max let go of her and opened the door to walk out. Shannon hurriedly tidied her clothes and sat on the bed.
The doctor immediately went to prepare the things needed for the IV drip. Jake was shocked to see Max like this.
Usually, no one was allowed to enter Max’s office. Today, not only did he let Shannon stay, but he even put her on an IV in the lounge. If this got out, it would be a huge piece of news!
“What are you waiting for? Go and prepare some food for her.” Max’s cold gaze landed on Jake.
“President, you have an appointment with President Anders of Anders Corporation…”
“Then postpone it for tomorrow.” Max’s voice was extremely cold.
Jake immediately turned around and walked out the door with a devious look on his face. It seemed like his President was going to start a new relationship.
“Wait. Go to our restaurant and order something light.” Just as Jake’s hand touched the door frame, Max’s cold voice sounded.
Jake immediately agreed and walked out, his smile deepening.
Shannon sat in the room. The doctor gave her an IV and left.
Only Shannon and Max were left in the huge office. She sat on the bed, worrying about Pete and whether he could handle the press.
Ring ring!
Shannon’s phone on the sofa suddenly rang and she immediately got up from the bed.
However, just as she stood up, Max immediately glared at her. She watched as he got up and walked towards the sofa.
“I’m Max. Shannon is receiving an IV here. Go back after you’re done. She’s fine here with me.” Max picked up Shannon’s phone and replied to Pete coldly.
Hearing Max say this, Pete was a little worried, but Max had already hung up, so he could only go home first.
Shannon knew that it was probably a call from Pete. Since she couldn’t leave now, she would just rest here for a while.
She laid on the bed and covered herself under the blanket.
Strangely enough, even though she had been plagued by insomnia all these years, despite facing such a bad situation and being in a strange place, she actually fell asleep in no time.
When she woke up again, it was already nighttime. The neon lights outside were increasing and the dazzling lights shone on her face.
She opened her eyes and was surprised to find herself in an unfamiliar environment. It was only after she got up that she remembered everything that had happened today.
The IV drip was gone. She should be able to leave now.
She walked out to look for Max. The light beside the desk was on, and he was bent over his desk, busy at work.
Shannon walked towards him barefooted.
She opened her mouth to say thank you, but suddenly remembered that her predicament was caused by him.
“Jake, go and heat up the dishes.” Max looked up to see Shannon standing at the side and immediately ordered Jake.
Shannon looked at him in front of her and suddenly felt a little unfamiliar. Did he ask Jake to heat up food for her?
But in the past, he would never treat her like this. This was because she was the one who did all these things for him.
“Why aren’t you wearing shoes? Did you injure your brain too?” Max stood up to find her barefooted and frowned.
Shannon turned around to put on her shoes and went to pack her bag. She had to leave now.
“You’d better finish your meal here and take my car back obediently. That group of reporters is still downstairs. If you go out like this now, it’ll definitely be shocking news.” Max’s deep and cold voice slowly came from behind her.
Shannon frowned. She was just a small lawyer, why would there be such a big commotion?
“Are you lying to me? It’s just a divorce case. How did it attract so much attention?” Shannon didn’t believe Max.
Max slowly approached her. He thought that she had become more streetsmart after starting afresh elsewhere, but in the end, she was still so innocent.
“The divorce case isn’t big, but losing the lawsuit that could have been won will attract attention. Most importantly, you came to the Wenley Corporation after losing the lawsuit. Do you understand the situation now?” Max sneered as he looked down at the woman in front of him.
Shannon reached out to pat her head. It was really stupid of her to run into Max’s company under the eyes of those reporters. Those reporters must be waiting for her downstairs.
She was even wearing his clothes now. If she was really photographed, the consequences would be terrible.
“President, the dishes are ready. Miss Zanders, please come over and eat.” Jake opened the door and came in with the food.
Max smirked when he saw that Shannon had listened to him. She wasn’t that hopelesly stupid after all.
“You didn’t knock again!” Shannon could only vent her anger on Jake.
Max’s cold eyes softened when he saw Shannon behaving like a little hedgehog. She seemed to be a little cuter than before.
“What are you still standing here for?” Max leaned on the sofa and looked at Jake, but there was a hint of joy in his voice.
Shannon looked angry, but she was really hungry.
She walked over and started eating. However, she was puzzled by the dishes in front of her. All of them were her favorite dishes in the past. Could it be that he remembered them?
She avoided Max’s gaze. All she wanted to do was to quickly finish her meal and leave this place.
“I’m full. Can you send me back now?” Shannon looked at Max anxiously after dinner..
