Chapter 49: An Expert, A True Expert
“What a pity. You were just two points away from the goal.” Li Zheng smiled as he compared the papers. “But I won’t be putting much effort into Physics these coming days. You’ll be able to get these two points soon enough. Come, let me first explain to you the questions you got wrong.”
“I don’t need your explanation.” Zhang Xiaoke reached out and snatched her paper. “I understood my mistakes when I went through the answers just now.”
“Is that so? Then it looks like you’re more intelligent than me.” Li Zheng nodded a little confidently. “As it seems now, it’s very possible that you’ll meet the target I’ve set for you for the mid-semester exams.”
He pushed two practice booklets toward Zhang Xiaoke after he spoke. “You can focus your efforts on these two books for the next two days. You can challenge me at any time.”
“Just you wait. I’ll pass before the sun sets.” Zhang Xiaoke grabbed the practice booklets, had a look at them, and then glanced at the mountain of books. “You must’ve spent a good amount of money on these, didn’t you?”
“That’s right.”
“I can’t look on anymore…” Zhang Xiaoke scratched her head and whipped out her phone before manically fiddling with it.
Li Zheng’s phone rang. He noticed that Zhang Xiaoke had sent him 150 yuan, which was around what he’d spent today.
“You can count that as a tutoring fee. Save your words. I don’t want to owe you anything.” Zhang Xiaoke stuffed her earpiece in after she spoke and started to check through her wrong answers.
Li Zheng once again learned what it meant to not judge a book by its cover.
She looked like a troublemaker.
Yet she was quite obedient when it came to studying.
He had the urge to officially accept her as his disciple.
At that moment…
“Hm???”
What a familiar sound.
Li Zheng trembled, but he felt a little excited despite his nervousness.
He then turned his head in anticipation.
Lin Yujing froze at the stairway with a tray in hand.
She was wearing the same kitty apron and sleeves, and was even wearing a cat print bandana on her head.
What was going on?
Without waiting for Li Zheng to question her, Lin Yujing rushed over with her head hung low, placed the cake down, and turned to flee.
But at that moment, the lady’s voice came from the first floor.
“Jingjing, while you’re there, you can give the naughty cats on the second floor their medicine.”
“Hng…” Lin Yujing grabbed her head and walked to the small cabinet in the corner of the room. She expertly took out a syringe, then picked up a water bottle and started formulating the medication.
“Ah?” Zhang Xiaoke also removed her earpiece and said in alarm, “Isn’t that Lin Yujing from our class?”
Lin Yujing trembled for a moment and refused to speak.
However, Zhang Xiaoke was excited. She put her practice questions down, tiptoed over, and hugged Lin Yujing, not caring if they knew each other or not. She leaned into Lin Yujing’s face and asked with a naughty smile, “Darling, does your family own this shop?”
“No,” Lin Yujing said, blushing. “It’s a part-time job.”
“Oh? Can people our age work part-time?”
“Sh…” Lin Yujign quickly raised her hand and said, “I come here frequently and am on good terms with the lady, so I come to help her out on the weekends…”
she said as she glanced at an innocent cat who had just come up the stairs. She gave a silly smile. “You can pet them as much as you want.”
“Oh, oh, oh.” Zhang Xiaoke had a wretched smile. “Then, can we have our food for free?”
Lin Yujing rubbed her head. “Let me ask the lady.”
“I was kidding, haha.” Zhang Xiaoke blinked and said, “I’ll go back and study first. We can play together after you’re done with your work~”
She bounced back to her seat without waiting for a response, then leaned forward and whispered, “Lin Yujing… She’s not very well-to-do, is she? She comes to work part-time on the weekends.”
“How would I know?” Li Zheng didn’t have the energy to bother with her. He focused his attention on the ground by the side.
There was an unusually plump Shorthair there. It was eyeing the new piece of cake on their table.
It even licked its lips.
“I’ll give it a try. Relaxing by playing with cats,” he thought.
He slowly got up and glanced at the Shorthair.
However, he had just taken half a step when the plump Shorthair leaped up and jumped far away.
It even turned around to steal a glance at Li Zheng. It then scratched its sides after squinting its eyes. It seemed to be provoking Li Zheng.
“It’s so difficult,” he thought.
Li Zheng left his seat and tried to approach the other cats.
However, these cats were extremely cautious, and they would escape whenever he so much as moved toward them.
He couldn’t catch them.
During the stalemate, Li Zheng glanced at Lin Yujing.
At that moment, Lin Yujing had finished preparing the medicine and was starting to catch the cats.
Unlike Li Zheng, she didn’t walk directly toward the cats. Instead, she pretended to be passing by and didn’t look directly at them.
The cats merely looked at her with caution. Some of them wanted to move but were too lazy to do so.
Just as Lin Yujing was at a short distance away from one of the cats, she suddenly crouched down and reached toward it.
It was as if her body had grown longer.
The cat just kicked with its legs, wanting to run, but Lin Yujing had already grabbed it by the back of its neck.
“Hehe~” Lin Yujing gently lifted the cat.
As if it had been injected with an anesthetic, the cat had a peaceful expression on its face and didn’t struggle.
“What a devilish technique,” Li Zheng thought.
Li Zheng’s shock was indescribable.
Lin Yujing wasn’t finished. She flicked her wrists and moved the cat into her arms, then smiled as she scratched the cat’s chin.
The cat finally came to its senses. It turned its body and kicked wildly in an attempt to escape.
However, Lin Yujing didn’t grab onto the cat, or trap it. Instead, she grabbed onto the flailing cat from the top and the bottom. Then, as if she were doing taichi, she took advantage of the cat’s struggle to form a cycle of restraints, allowing the cat to twist around in the air.
Under Lin Yujing’s control, the cat could only move around in place. It always seemed to land in Lin Yujing’s embrace, no matter how it twisted.
After a few rounds of combat, the cat’s movements became slower.
Lin Yujing then flicked her right wrist, opened her palm, and stroked the cat’s head. She scratched the cat’s chin with her thumb and the back of the cat’s ears with her index finger.
The cat rolled its eyes and instantly gave up struggling.
Lin Yujing took advantage of the opportunity to hug it more tightly and unleash an even stronger barrage of scratches.
Sometime later, the cat had lain down completely in Lin Yujing’s embrace. It squinted its eyes, stretched its front legs, and purred as if it were asleep.
“Oh God!” Li Zheng thought.
Li Zheng had nothing but praise.
“An expert.”
“A true expert.”
“This cat restraining technique can’t be mastered without having practiced on hundreds of cats.”
“Not only that, but Lin Yujing is also extremely intelligent.”
“To save money on playing with cats, she decided to work here. Not only can she play with cats, but she also makes some money while doing it.”
With an awed expression on his face, Li Zheng walked over to Lin Yujing, who was feeding the cat its medicine, and said, “This…”
“Sh.” Lin Yujing carefully picked up the syringe and dripped its contents into the cat’s mouth. She then smiled and placed the cat on the table before patting its butt.
The cat flipped over and got on its feet. It stared at Lin Yujing, a little reluctant to go.
Li Zheng reached out, wanting to seize the opportunity to stroke the cat.
But the cat kicked with its legs and ran away immediately.
Li Zheng swallowed, then looked at Lin Yujing. His gaze was exceptionally sincere. “Can you teach me?”
Lin Yujing laughed, then took two steps forward before turning around and signaling for him to follow.
Li Zheng quickly followed.
Lin Yujing passed Li Zheng the syringe, then set her sights on a Russian Blue lying on the table a few meters away.
She then walked over while humming a small tune, pretending to be looking in the opposite direction.
This Russian Blue was much more intelligent than the previous cat. Just as Lin Yujing closed in on its warning radius, it immediately flipped over and tried to run.
Lin Yujing reacted quickly and rushed after it.
Just as the Russian Blue jumped off the table and leaped into the air, Lin Yujing grabbed it under its armpits and pulled it back.
“Meow…” The Russian Blue let out a pathetic cry and kicked with its legs as it struggled.
Li Zheng admitted that he couldn’t learn her dexterity and flexibility.
On the other hand, Lin Yujing did her taichi once again. She allowed the cat to struggle, but made use of its momentum and guided its body around.
Li Zheng noticed that Lin Yujing’s Cat-playing Taichi had no concrete style. Instead, she moved according to the situation and adapted to whatever the cat threw at her. The technique seemed to be ingrained into her body.
“It might be an ability she’s had since birth. I can’t learn it,” Li Zheng thought.
After a series of mysterious movements, the Russian Blue lay helplessly in Lin Yujing’s embrace.
She started to rub its chin.
What could the cat do?
The Russain Blue could only close its eyes and start to purr.
“QiQi~” Lin Yujing touched its nose to hers, then smiled as she reached out for the syringe in Li Zheng’s hand, and started feeding the cat its medicine.
Li Zheng had already been overcome with awe.
It was as if a brute had encountered the Master of Taichi, Zhang Sanfeng.
It was too eye-opening.
