What was that?
After the prehistoric pterosaur-like creature left, Murphy could feel his heart beating like a drum.
The disdain he had felt earlier toward the gnolls when he thought he could easily defeat them had disappeared in an instant!
What a fearsome creature!
Murphy had no doubts that this prehistoric-like monstrous creature could easily tear everyone apart and that it would even be able to destroy a small to medium-sized city, not to mention his own town!
Was it a dragon?
It didn’t look like one. This creature looked more like a Quetzalcoatlus, which was a type of dragon from the Cretaceous Period that was as large as a pterosaur. The dragons from the West had four claws, and they could use magic as well as breathe fire. However, the huge creature that had just flown past them had two hind feet, and its upper body had wings that spanned 25 meters. It grabbed its prey with its hind claws like an eagle. On top of that, the creature had a long neck. If Murphy had to make a conservative guess, it was more than three meters long. It looked a bit like a flying wyvern, which was a sub-dragon creature from Western mythology.
When Murphy stood up, he realized the battlefield wasn’t the same as it was before.
Enemies and allies were mixed together. The exhausted and frightened gnolls were all lying on the ground, and some of the more cowardly ones had pretty much fainted and were unconscious.
Apart from Murphy, the captain of the Spartan infantry was one of the first ones to recover. He was the first strong warrior who had followed Murphy since Murphy had come to this world.
Living up to their title as “perfect warriors,” the Spartan infantry was also able to quickly recover. They captured the gnolls and proceeded to wake up their unconscious comrades.
By comparison, the Greek infantry was much weaker mentally.
Although these newly-trained warriors were calm and collected when confronting the gnolls, they cowered in fear like ordinary civilians when they encountered the prehistoric beast.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Because of the appearance of this unknown creature, Murphy’s heart was heavy when he returned home after the victory.
He had no idea how many creatures like that were out there, nor did he know how strong they were!
However, according to his calculations, there most likely weren’t that many creatures like that out there. Otherwise, humans and gnolls wouldn’t have been able to reproduce in the southern plains. A general rule of thumb was that the stronger the species, the harder it was for them to reproduce, so there shouldn’t be that many creatures like that one out there.
Besides, there was something to rejoice over.
Such creatures still had animal instincts!
They would only hunt enough food to fill their stomachs and wouldn’t kill too many creatures simply out of greed!
Just like a well-fed tiger, if you didn’t provoke it, it generally wouldn’t attack you. In contrast, the killing that humans did out of greed was far more terrifying
That creature was a very terrifying creature if killing was its hobby.
Then maybe there weren’t that many creatures living in the southern plains?
Fortunately, that creature still had animal instincts and would only kill enough to fill its own belly.
“Even if a fighter jet from World War II went up against it, the fight would be instantly OVER because of the creature’s huge body coupled with its rapid flight speed!” Murphy thought, and just thinking about this made his heart feel heavy.
The huge creature would even be able to take down a fighter jet with just a fraction of its strength.
And this incredible strength was just the tip of the iceberg. Who knew what other hidden abilities the creature had?
“This other world is dangerous! A low profile! A low profile is key!”
That creature, which resembled a flying wyvern, had flown toward the Karazan Mountain. Murphy estimated that its nest was probably around there. He had never encountered this sort of creature before and had never heard the aborigines mention it either. This area most likely wasn’t in its usual hunting range. Maybe this prehistoric creature had flown out here on a whim for a change of appetite.
This was only Murphy’s guess.
Thanks to extensive calculations, Murphy’s final encirclement around the gnolls resulted in less than twenty injured personnel, and the only casualty was one of the guards from the General Guards. He had taken Murphy’s place as the wyvern’s food…
The smell of blood had attracted the prehistoric creature to come and forage for food.
This was the only reasonable explanation that Murphy could come up with at the moment.
Animals are very sensitive to the smell of blood, and many creatures could smell the stench of blood from miles or even tens of miles away.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
When they returned to Athens, they were greeted by the cheerful Greek townspeople.
The soldiers held their heads high and didn’t mind showing the townspeople the blood and wounds on their bodies because it represented their bravery. It was proof that they’d fought hard to defend their hometown.
In the era of warfare, it was much easier for a warrior to win a girl’s heart than a poet.
The more than one hundred gnolls tied up with ropes behind the troops aroused the curiosity of the townspeople and caused a stir. Many of the townspeople had never seen such weird creatures before, and the children looked at them with fear in their eyes, since the gnolls didn’t look human.
Letting the new General Hamilton handle the gnolls, an exhausted Murphy prepared to head back to the Governor’s Mansion to rest.
Along the way, he met Lady Elizabeth.
Murphy was stunned when he saw her without her veil on. But that’s all she was. Just stunning.
First impressions are the most important. No matter how pretty the woman in front of Murphy was, she had made a bad first impression on him. From her air of noble arrogance right down to the dumb questions she had asked after failing to resolve the situation. All of this had greatly lowered Murphy’s estimation of her! His opinion of the woman standing right in front of him had been negatively impacted by all of the things she had done!
These days, even a vase needed to know a vase’s place.
He wouldn’t mind collecting beautiful vases, because they would add to the beauty of his room. However, he disliked vases that didn’t know their place, and he wouldn’t mind breaking the ones that were unaware of their position.
Women are generally somewhat smart, but just because a woman’s smart, it doesn’t mean she’s wise.
Murphy admired wise women.
Lady Elizabeth seemed to be much more well-behaved today. When she saw Murphy, she twirled her skirts in a very ladylike curtsy.
“Your Excellency, why didn’t you kill those gnolls?” Lady Elizabeth asked, bowing her head slightly to pay her due respects to this man who was eight years younger than herself. But it wasn’t like she couldn’t hear the cheers outside. What surprised her was that this Lord, who was just a teenager, seemed to have extraordinary courage and had even dared to take the initiative to surround the gnolls!
He even had the courage to capture them!
In contrast, her own husband was…
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Hmm?
Did she become smarter?
Does she finally know the circumstances that she’s in now?
Murphy couldn’t help but change the opinion he had of this woman in front of him, who had a charming face and eyes that resembled an aquamarine gem.
From the looks of it, this woman wasn’t an ignorant slut.
As a noble, she wasn’t as stubborn as a peasant woman.
In fact, in many novels, many noblewomen behaved more like peasant women, although they didn’t look like them…
Instead of saying that the nobles were cunning and treacherous, it was more accurate to say that those who have power are generally ruthless.
“I’m holding them captive,” Murphy said. He looked at the woman in front of him, who was half a head taller, and who was carefully bending down at that moment to show her respect. He couldn’t help but feel slightly conceited because of this. He raised his hand and said slowly: “I need some slaves to increase the workforce.”
Just as Murphy finished his sentence, an alert sound rang out from the auxiliary system.
‘Ding! Found a large number of refugees. You can choose to accept or cancel.”
What happened?!
Where did these large numbers of refugees come from?
While Murphy was surprised by being prompted with this choice, a bearded Herald with a body covered in sweat from running appeared behind him.
“Your Excellency, we found a group of refugees on the island below Nidoria River. They are all Greeks, and there are about 700 of them. Most of them are from Syracuse, while some of them are Spartans. They said they encountered a shipwreck while sailing, and when they came to, they found that they had arrived on the island somehow.”
The herald’s words shocked Murphy!
