Grandpa Michael was all buttered up by Jay’s sweet talk. They talked and talked until Jay had to leave due to work.
Grandpa Michael kept reminding Maisy to be good to Jay as it wasn’t easy to find someone she had feelings for and decent. The April showers had finally brought May flowers, he thought, relieved.
Gone were the wretched days when Maisy had to suffer with him because he couldn’t provide her with a better quality of life. She had been through so much more compared to kids her age, and it was unfair for her. It was why he had always felt blameworthy all those years, but seeing that she was now in
a happy place had brought closure to him. He was finally able to put down the stone that he had been carrying around for years.
It was until dusk that Maisy had parted with Grandpa Michael unwillingly. When she returned home, the only faint light illuminating the pitch-black house was the ceiling light at the dining table. Jay wasn’t home yet. Still, the housekeeper was sweet enough to have prepared dinner and reheated them
before she left as she saw how steam was still rising off of the dishes.
In the middle of winter, big snowflakes were falling everywhere. She shook off the snow from her jacket, cupped her hands together, and blew on her fingers. After she had poured herself a bowl of hot soup, the hot liquid warmed her insides instantly as it traveled down her throat. A corner of her mouth
twitched up.
When Jay came home, Maisy welcomed him with unusual warmth by patting his coat to remove the snow remnants on his shoulders. Then, she helped him hang his coat on the rack before giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek at the entrance.
The first snow of the season came too unexpectedly that Jay couldn’t experience it with Maisy when it occurred. Yet, he felt the warmth that the first snow had brought along. “What’s the occasion?” he joked.
Imitating what Jay would do, Maisy’s lost hands found aim. She began tugging the hem of his dress shirt, which he had securely tucked into his pants. When she had finally had it pulled out slightly, he caught her wrist to stop her impatient little hand.
“Stop it. You’re testing my limits. Stay still,” Jay gritted through his teeth.
Stunned, she took her hand back and pursed her lips. “So, what should I do to make you pleased?” She was confused as hell because he was blowing hot and cold, so unpredictable and leaving her helpless in situations like this.
He took her hand, leading her to the couch. Gently, he caressed his fingers over her abdomen. If it weren’t for that little thing inside, damn it! He wouldn’t have to restraint himself.
The doctor’s report had come back with bad news, telling him that he should avoid further sexual intercourse with her. So he was forced to lock up his monstrous desire in a cage and let her have the rest she needed.
“How about something for a change? Like making me dinner?”
The heating system in the house was already on. Steam was still rising from the food prepared by the housekeeper. Her gaze lingered at the table full of dishes, and she hesitated. Her cooking skills were poles apart compared to the housekeeper. Why did he ask her to cook for him?
