The Body Swap Game - Chapter 52
Chapter 52: Likeability
After eight hours of game-playing, Xia Yu returned to his own body. It was already 11 p.m.
He slept in the bed, and at eight o’clock the next morning, he logged onto Xu Youxiang’s body.
When he opened his eyes, he could see the ceiling of Xu Youxiang’s house.
“What, you finally remembered that you had a slave girl put aside?” Xu Youxiang sounded as unpleasant as usual.
“I didn’t make you sell yourself.” Xia Yu complained.
Xu Youxiang didn’t say anything else.
Xia Yu sat up and yawned, feeling a bit tired.
“You didn’t sleep well last night?” Xia Yu asked.
“Hm.” Xu Youxiang answered simply. Not only did she not explain, but she also changed the topic. “Learn more programming?”
“No. It’s not interesting.” Xia Yu didn’t mention that he had other things at the moment so as to prevent Xu Youxiang from speculating.
While Xu Youxiang couldn’t guess much right now, she might be able to when she got enough information later on.
Picking up Xu Youxiang’s notebook computer, Xia Yu decided to spend all of his time playing computer games during this game time.
Too bad Xu Youxiang only had free games here. It’d have been fantastic if there were paid games here.
Feeling regretful, Xia Yu turned on the computer and noticed more than 10 new game icons.
“???”
“You didn’t get enough sleep because you were playing games?” Xia Yu tried to guess.
“Why, can’t disabled people not entertain themselves with games?” Xu Youxiang said with a bit of anger.
“It’s not that. Last time I was here, you didn’t even have a game platform on your computer. Now you have so many games, it really surprised me.” Xia Yu picked one game and launched it.
This game was about grave-robbing. One had to control the ultra-fierce female character in fighting as well as looking for treasure in a terrorist-occupied graveyard.
He used a bow and arrow to shoot a whole group of soldiers at the start of the game.
“There’s not much over there. It’s a waste of time if you went there.” Xu Youxiang stopped being rude and started to guide Xia Yu.
Xia Yu listened to Xu Youxiang’s advice and switched to a new route.
“Wait, there’s a lot of people ahead. We have to assassinate them!” Xu Youxiang directed.
Xia Yu said, “Assassinate? I understand.”
He controlled the game character and jumped into the middle of the group. First, he shot a bunch of arrows, killing seven people. Then, he used mountain picks in both hands and killed the other eight.
“Done with the assassination. Where do we go next?” Xia Yu asked Xu Youxiang.
“You call this assassination?” Xu Youxiang asked incredulously.
“Isn’t assassination killing someone without a witness?” Xia Yu said.
“Right. I didn’t think you’d handle it this well.”
Xia Yu wasn’t that great in handling. If Xu Youxiang was a professional gamer, she’d have noticed the many useless portions in Xia Yu’s operation. He was only able to show off his handling with the powerful reaction ability given by Cleverness Lv 2.
After he carried on with the assassinations, he had successfully made it past the terrorists’ camp and reached a grave.
What followed was a nervous yet exciting time for grave-robbing.
The grave-robbing process was actually a process of decoding. It was watching the character climb up and down, hopping here and there, finding a way to get to the treasure chest.
Xia Yu didn’t think anything of it, but Xu Youxiang suddenly felt disappointed as she watched the extremely agile character in the game.
She would never be able to jump or run like this again.
She thought of her father and mother again. After that car accident, her parents treated her so carefully. The two of them used to fight all the time, but now, they hardly spoke in a loud voice.
Their gazes as they watched her were filled with pain.
As she pondered, knocking sounds on the door could be heard.
“Xiangxiang, I’m coming in.” It was Xu’s mom.
“Go back to the desktop!” Xu Youxiang anxiously told Xia Yu.
Yet, Xia Yu ignored her and continued to play the game.
Three seconds later, Xu’s mom opened the door. She held a bowl filled with apple chunks, along with a small plastic fork stuck among the apples.
Xu’s mom put the apple by the bed and turned to see the computer screen.
Her eyes lit up. “Playing games?”
“Hm,” Xia Yu answered.
“Playing games is great. Play whenever you want. Do you need to charge money? Charging a grand or two every month is fine,” Xu’s mom asked with concern.
“No. I’m playing on my own,” Xia Yu said.
“Take your time playing. I’m going to leave.” After saying this, Xu’s mom happily left the room.
Xu Youxiang was very confused. She didn’t understand how her mom, who had never liked her playing computer games, was so happy today, seeing her doing the same.
During her confusion, Xia Yu pressed pause and picked up the apple near the bed, then started eating.
Three minutes later, there was more knocking on the door.
“I’m coming in.” This time, it was Xu’s dad.
Xu’s dad held a bowl of pear chunks and came into the bedroom. He put the pear on the nightstand by the bed and glanced at the game on the computer.
“Playing games to relax when you have time is great. Do not forget to rest too.”
Compared to Xu’s mom, Xu’s dad was a lot calmer. But Xu Youxiang could tell he was in a great mood too, judging by the smile on his lips.
“Tell him ‘Don’t cut the fruit for me, I can do it myself.’” Xu Youxiang instructed.
Xia Yu ignored her and instead said, “Are there peaches?”
“Peaches? Yes, yes, yes, I’ll buy some right now.” Xu’s dad couldn’t keep his composure anymore. He walked quickly out of the bedroom, smiling brightly. He went downstairs to buy peaches for Xu Youxiang.
Three minutes after that, he came into the room holding a bowl of peaches.
Xu Youxiang could clearly see the smile on her dad’s face. It was not a fake smile meant to comfort her, it was a real smile. It was the kind of real smile she’d only seen before the car accident.
“Get mom for me,” Xia Yu said.
“Youxiang’s mom!” Xu’s dad instantly went out of the door to call her.
Xu’s mom arrived right away.
Xia Yu reached out his hand toward Xu’s mom. “I want to use the restroom.”
Xu’s mom was stunned. After the car accident, her daughter had always been headstrong. She had wanted to help, but could only stand by, watch, and suffer together, so as to protect her daughter’s self-esteem.
Now, this proud daughter of hers had actually reached out her hand toward her.
After Xu’s mom had time to react, enormous joy appeared in her heart. Her eyes became wet too.
When she saw her daughter being painfully headstrong, she felt the same pain. She had felt so useless.
Now, she could finally help her daughter and share her strength.
She walked up quickly and reached Xia Yu, almost in a state of elation. Then, she helped him to the bathroom.
When Xia Yu returned to the bed, Xu’s dad and mom talked to him a bit with smiles on their faces. Then, not wanting to bother him during game-playing, they left his room.
“Why?” Xu Youxiang asked.
In order to not cause her parents pain, she’d tried hard to be independent, like she was before the car accident. Yet, her actions had just made her parents feel more pain. She had thought her existence was the original sin.
“You’re injured. There is no need to be headstrong. Just quietly enjoy your parents’ care. Don’t look like you’re suffering. Play games whenever. They’d be happy.” Xia Yu ate the peach.
“Hmph, it’s none of your business!” Xu Youxiang’s tone wasn’t kind.
A line of words appeared in front of Xia Yu: [Your addition had reached Lv 2]
Ah, women.
Indeed, the requirement for an addition was being liked by the target.
Earning extra points in the game probably worked the same.
