The door was locked from the inside. Xia Yu couldn’t open it. He kicked it twice, and there was no answer.
If Youxue got the cell phone, she’d have mentioned it. There was no doubt that the phone was taken by someone else, and Xia Dongyang was the only person who could have done it.
He called the man’s name a couple of times. Still, there was no reply.
Xia Dongyang was definitely in the room. His shoes were outside. He couldn’t afford to sleep in a hotel.
Xia Yu went toward the balcony connected to the living room. He then looked at the balcony connected to the master bedroom.
There was a half-meter distance between the two balconies. The window was open in the humid weather.
Crawling onto the window, Xia Yu grabbed the master bedroom’s windowsill and got inside the room.
He saw Xia Dongyang right away. The man clutched a rolling pin and peered out from a crack in the doorway.
Walking up behind him, Xia Yu kicked the older man.
“Ouch!” Xia Dongyang yelped and turned around quickly.
Seeing Xia Yu, Xia Dongyang looked dazed and a little panicked. When he remembered the rolling pin he had, he stopped acting scared and raised the rolling pin.
If Xia Yu didn’t earn Cleverness from the black cat, he would have been a little clumsy and taken some time to subdue Xia Dongyang, but he wasn’t the same anymore.
Xia Yu dodged the rolling pin and grabbed Xia Dongyang’s wrist. He twisted it and pushed the older man to the floor.
“Wait, wait, wait, I made a mistake! I made a mistake!”
Ignoring the man’s pleas, Xia Yu punched him in the waist.
Xia Yu wanted to hit his father’s face, but considering the man’s ridiculous pride, he made some concessions.
“Where’s the phone?” Xia Yu asked.
Xia Yu was somewhat nervous. He put the phone on Youxue’s desk last night, which meant Xia Dongyang stole it then, and there was plenty of time for the man to sell it.
Xia Yu could beat him up, but he couldn’t make his father pay for the phone.
Good thing Xia Dongyang hadn’t had time to get rid of the phone.
“It’s in the drawer!” The older man confessed.
Opening the drawer on the TV cabinet, Xia Yu saw the cell phone box, with the phone and all of its accessories still inside.
Grabbing the cell phone box, Xia Yu went toward Xia Dongyang.
“Never go into Youxue’s room again.” He warned his father.
“You go in there!” Xia Dongyang protested.
“I can, but you can’t!”
Seeing Xia Yu’s raised fist, Xia Dongyang shut up.
Xia Yu stared at him, and when the older man’s gaze flickered away, he opened the door and left the master bedroom.
Crawling up from the floor, Xia Dongyang clutched his waist and screeched in pain.
He had one question in his mind: How the hell did the kid come in?
He looked toward where Xia Yu ambushed him and saw the open window, as well as the balcony connected to the living room.
They were on the fourth floor!
He may have beeen powerful, but he was still his son.
Xia Dongyang rationalized the fight in his mind. Walking toward the bed, he took out some medicinal salve and expertly applied it to his waist.
After he finished putting on the salve, he could hear the door opening in the living room.
It was Youxue coming home.
“Brother, here’s your eraser.” The girl put the eraser in Xia Yu’s hand, also adding the leftover money. “And the change.”
“The money is yours to keep.” Xia Yu accepted the eraser.
“Thank you, Brother.” Youxue smiled with her eyes crinkling. All of her pocket money came from Xia Yu.
“And this.” Xia Yu gave her the cell phone too.
Youxue looked in disbelief at the cell phone box. Opening it, she saw the white cellphone inside.
“You’re the best!” The girl hugged Xia Yu.
Patting Youxue’s head, Xia Yu’s bad mood from his father improved.
Youxue ran to her bedroom to play with her new phone.
In a while, she ran back out.
“Brother, can you teach me?” The girl looked puzzled.
After adjusting the settings for Youxue, he downloaded Penguin Chat, signed up, and added his own number to the Family group. Then, he downloaded some other apps and taught the girl how to use them.
Youxue’s excitement didn’t end until four in the afternoon.
Xia Yu relaxed in his room. At six p.m., he signed onto the game and entered An Siyao’s world.
After the initial darkness, he saw a black piano.
He was in the piano room.
“You’re back!” An Siyao sounded overjoyed.
“???”
Why did she sound so happy at his return?
After some hesitation, Xia Yu answered.
“Were you busy yesterday?” An Siyao asked why he didn’t show up yesterday.
“Something went wrong with the ritual.” Xia Yu started playing the piano casually, trying to familiarize himself.
“Is everything alright?” The girl seemed worried.
“It was fine. I just accidentally blew up the moon.” Xia Yu made up a story.
“Don’t try to lie to me. The moon was there last night!” An Siyao sounded happy at having seen through Xia Yu’s lies.
“It was the moon in my time.” Xia Yu added another lie.
An Siyao became quiet. She couldn’t tell if Xia Yu was lying or not.
“C’mon, teach me piano.” Xia Yu reminded the girl.
Five hours later, he stretched.
It was 11 p.m., he was a little hungry.
He also felt hungry the last two times in the game at this hour, but he was so excited about playing the game that he ignored the sensation.
“How do we call the maid?” Xia Yu asked An Siyao.
“There’s an app. Just tap.” The girl told him.
A minute later, Xia Yu saw the same maid, whom he saw before, come inside the piano room.
“Fix me some food,” Xia Yu said.
“Miss, the nutritionist’s menu doesn’t include night time snacks.” The maid seemed standoffish.
Xia Yu slowly stopped playing the piano.
There was silence in the piano room.
Dong!
Xia Yu slammed down the piano lid. The sudden noise startled the maid; she shook from Xia Yu’s cold gaze.
“I… I’ll let the kitchen cook do it now.” The maid ran out of the room.
Xia Yu chuckled and opened the piano lid to continue practicing.
His father, Xia Dongyang, was a thug, so he had no shortage of experience in dealing with thugs. He knew how to use facial expressions and tension to pressure someone.
From stopping his hands slowly, to slamming closed the piano lid, and then staring silently… all of which were part of a psychological game. It wouldn’t have worked with any link missing.
The flaws in this method were the long process and its dependence on an unequal relationship between the two parties; it wasn’t as convenient as the black cat’s scaring technique.
After some time, the maid presented a bowl of porridge, then sheepishly left.
“You’re incredible.” An Siyao envied Xia Yu’s power of scaring the maid.
“You’re too weak.” Xia Yu ate the porridge.
The girl switched topics. “You improved really fast today.”
She wasn’t flattering him. Xia Yu could feel the dexterity in his fingers.
He could play Gulda’s ‘Play Piano Play’ already, albeit not too expertly.
After he finished eating, the maid came and took away the utensils.
Before leaving the room, the maid glanced at Xia Yu’s back and thought: The housekeeping chief would be back soon. We’ll see how you act then!
