Ling Chuxia unconsciously held her hands tightly, as she fixated her attention on the box of pills lying on the floor. She moved her lips as if to articulate her thoughts. As she lifted up her head inadvertently, she caught a glimpse of Shi Che’s expression.
Shi Che was wrapped in a baggy bathrobe after a shower, his hair was rather wet and hung loosely. Several strands of hair on his forehead partly obscured his vision. In spite of that, she was able to feel his glance towards her direction.
It was unaffectionate, it was piercing, it was as if he knew it all.
All her focus and thoughts were vitrified by him… all her struggles were futile.
Ling Chuxia clenched and relaxed her fists repeatedly. After a long pause, she stretched out her hands slowly and inched toward the box of ECP..
She was feeble in defying Mrs. Shi, how could she disobey Shi Che?
Ling Chuxia took a deep breath as she grabbed the box of ECP, with trembling hands, and swiftly opened the box, pushed out a pill, and was about to put it into her mouth.
However, her wrist was suddenly locked and prohibited any movement. She was initially taken aback and she raised her bewildered eyes. Before she was able to decipher what was happening, a mighty force hauled her up. In the next second, she was thrown onto the soft cozy bed while the man’s tall and stout body shrouded her once more.
There was a sudden clap of thunder by the time Ling Chuxia woke up from her nightmare. The passing lightning lit up half of the sky to give an illusion of a bright day. It was as if a shiny knife had cut open the vast dark veil into two halves.
Ling Chuxia sprang up from the bed and peered out of the window subconsciously.
She was still dazed and her eyes were listless, her heart was palpitating as if she was reeling from the trepidation of the earlier bad dream.
The sky was pitch black, the dark clouds rolled by. As the distant dull roar of thunder drifted to her ears, she slowly regained her consciousness.
The full-length curtain’s continuous overturning movements created numerous parabolas in the air. The infiltration of the cool breeze sent Ling Chuxia an involuntary chill.
The city of Liangcheng was located on low latitude and with its proximity to the equator, the air was torrid. Ling Chuxia had always enjoyed the cool climate and hence she only wore a thin tulle nightdress to sleep. The sudden cool wind had given her goosebumps.
The morning was bright and sunny, thus the torrents of heavy downpour in the middle of the night were least expected.
She crossed her hands to cover her arms and rubbed them slightly to suppress the goosebumps, before she draped on a thin quilt, got out of bed, put on her slippers and shuffled slowly towards the windows.
The city of Liangcheng was situated by the sea, its rainy summer seasons saw mostly thundershowers and quite unlike these annoying drizzles. Such showers came and went in a flash, and made people restless.
This phenomenon resembled someone’s temper, whose ferocious momentum came rattling over in full fury.
However, he was unlike the thundershowers which would go off quickly. He resembled those annoying drizzles which kept on tormenting you, torturing you…
Whenever she thought of him, Ling Chuxia would feel a shivering chill down her spine and gave her goosebumps.
Ling Chuxia pulled up the thin quilt to wrap it more tightly around her body and hastened her steps towards the window. The drizzle was getting heavier and some drizzle splattered into the room diagonally. As Ling Chuxia drew close, she could smell the freshness in the rain. A few rain droplets splashed onto her arms and brought a tinge of coldness.
