Ling Chuxia hurriedly shut the window and put the window screen displaced by the winds back in its place, ensuring that it stretched to the floor neatly.
After that was done, Ling Chuxia turned and prepared to go back to sleep. She had only taken a few steps towards the bed when another lightning flashed, lighting up the bedroom momentarily, as well as the man who was sitting on the sofa.
Her whole body froze on the spot as if she had been struck by that flash of lightning.
Why had he come back? She started to think, You really can’t talk behind someone’s back, else that person would suddenly appear behind you. No wonder she felt a cold breeze behind her just then…
–
Only the wall lamp by the bedside table was turned on. Its light was dim orange and Ling Chuxia had gone straight to close the window earlier after waking up; she had not taken notice of the sofa area.
Besides, she never thought that he would come back.
Since the last time he flew into a big rage and left the place with a broken door, he had not been back for a few months…
Ling Chuxia was still in the midst of her thoughts when Shi Che suddenly made a groan with a twang. He did not seem too well.
Ling Chuxia quickly regained her senses and restrained her facial expressions. Quickly but carefully, she moved towards him.
As she got closer, Ling Chuxia caught the rich scent of alcohol. It was not overly strong, but rather a light, pleasant smell.
Shi Che’s body opened up slightly as he shifted backward to lean on the sofa. His head too was propped up by the sofa, and as his eyes were closed, his slender eyebrows formed a pretty shadow around his eye sockets.
Despite the dim lighting, she could still see his well-defined facial features: dashing eyebrows, slender eyes, tall nose, and soft lips.
Except now, his eyebrows appeared to frown. He rubbed them softly with his long fingers and seemed to be in some kind of pain.
Is he drunk? Ling Chuxia thought to herself as she approached him ever more carefully.
Shi Che was a reserved and introverted man. He carried a strong aura and had an imposing manner. He portrayed a quiet image of a dignified man. Even when seated silently like now, he naturally seemed intimidating, giving off an air that would make others keep their distance to avoid disturbing him.
Ling Chuxia had always been somewhat intimidated by him. If she had her way, she too would keep her distance and stay far away from him, just like how the legendary Monkey King1 could go 34 thousand miles in one somersault.
What a pity then, that Shi Che was the only person she could not keep her distance from, for she was his wife and he was her husband. She had to take care of and serve her man well.
Ling Chuxia observed Shi Che as his eyes were slightly closed and his breath, while a little deep, seemed constant. He had probably fallen asleep.
She did not understand why Shi Che had not slept on the bed upon returning home but had sat on the sofa instead. Surely, the bed would be more comfortable than the sofa.
She did not know whether to wake him up and allow him to rest on the bed. After all, she probably could not carry him to the bed given her petite stature.
Shi Che had always had a bit of a temper after waking up and not been very patient with her. Thus, she tended to avoid upsetting him as much as possible.
However, if she were to let him rest on the sofa for the whole night… If he could not rest well and woke up sore, she would have to bear with his temper either way.
