After spending some time to weigh her options, Ling Chuxia had decided to rouse him from his slumber.
Ling Chuxia bent down gently and moved her cheeks gradually closer, her hand slowly stretched out with the intention to give a light pat on Shi Che’s shoulder. Before her hand could reach his shoulders, Shi Che raised one hand abruptly and in a split second, that hand had grabbed onto Ling Chuxia’s wrist.
His grip was strong such that his five fingers could hold tightly onto Ling Chuxia’s tiny and delicate wrist. It almost crushed her wrist bones.
Ling Chuxia felt a tremendous pain from her wrist. As she took in a severe gasp, her dainty eyebrows were contorted into a furrow.
No one knew when Shi Che had opened his eyes. His dark brown eyes were like an unfathomable abysmal pond.
It was as if his brows were knitted for a moment, and the next moment they were relaxed. He let go of his grip on her wrist slowly.
Ling Chuxia’s delicate skin and soft flesh, notably after Shi Che’s forceful grip, became reddened at the wrist. Ling Chuxia could not care for the pain, she stammered, “You… you’re awake? Have I woken you up?”
Since his angry departure a few months ago, Ling Chuxia had sensed that her fear for him had deepened.
Ling Chuxia’s eyes had shown a hint of panic, and she blinked her eyes slightly as she avoided his stare. Her cherry lips were pursed as she felt like she was sitting on thorns.
Shi Che did not pay attention to her words. As his eyes glanced at her reddened wrist, a strange look flashed by and was swiftly concealed.
Shi Che was reticent and did not pay her any attention. The quality of the noise insulation of the house was impeccable. The roars of thunder and lightning from outside was cut off. There was an air of bizarre silence in the room.
Perhaps the presence of Shi Che had caused Ling Chuxia to start to feel pressurized.
Ling Chuxia dropped her eyelids and stole a glimpse of Shi Che. Even though he was showing no emotion, his brows were furrowed and he seemed uneasy.
Ling Chuxia was adept in observing people’s behavior and she took the initiative to break the utter silence.
“Young… Young Master, are you unwell? How about taking a rest on the bed?”
Ling Chuxia and her sister Ling Yunshu were adopted by Mrs. Shi since they were little girls. On the surface, they were their daughters. In reality, Mrs. Shi’s motivation to adopt and groom them was to train a young mistress for the Shi family. The girl was meant to be the child bride for their son Shi Che. Nonetheless, though they had grown up together, they were far from being childhood sweethearts. After all, Shi Che was the young master and she was just a mere…
Ling Chuxia was at a loss of words to describe her predicament. Moreover, this was the 21st century, no one would have believed in the existence of a child bride. Nevertheless, she was grateful to Mrs. Shi.
If it were not for Mrs. Shi, she and her sister would have grown up in an orphanage, lonely and without roots. They would have been unable to enjoy their life of abundance and luxury.
Since childhood, Ling Chuxia had been addressing Shi Che as the Young Master. Even though she was now married to him, she had not addressed her husband otherwise. She was as respectful to him as ever.
Shi Che sat in reticence, he was motionless, his eyes were profound and lost in thought.
Ling Chuxia bit her lower lip as her anxiety and fear put her on tenterhooks. Each time with Shi Che’s reticence, she would feel afraid, involuntarily because she was unable to either decipher his intentions or read his thoughts. She was scared that her recklessness might result in an error that would incur his wrath.
