Despite the fact that they were intimate as husband and wife, however, Ling Chuxia had never dared to look at Shi Che directly. During those moments, she had mostly closed her eyes to receive what pleased him. Therefore she had never scrutinized his physique. There was too much for her to take visually, Ling Chuxia cleared her throat and stuttered, “The bath…the bathwater is ready…ready for use.”
Her faltering words had nearly caused her to bite her own tongue.
This time, without a glance, Shi Che had ignored her completely and entered the bathroom.
–
With Shi Che’s departure, Ling Chuxia could feel the easing of tension. Earlier on, she had held her breath for the longest time and her heart was hanging by a thread. Alas, she was able to heave a sigh of relief.
She looked at the train of clothes, thrown by Shi Che, lying on the floor. She squatted down slowly and picked them up a piece at a time.
Shi Che, neat and tidy by nature, enjoyed his surroundings to be spick and span. Even when he could be the culprit for messing things up, she was always there to clean up his carnages. Her endeavors ensured that on his next return, the house would be in tip-top state.
While she was tidying up, Ling Chuxia could not help pondering on Shi Che’s last outburst which led to his staying away from home for these past months. Her numerous attempts to contact him were mercilessly rejected. Now…his sudden return…does it mean that his fury had died down?
If he were no longer angry, that would have been the best outcome. If he had yet to simmer down… Ling Chuxia could not help her frowning and sighing.
Since her marriage to Shi Che, she felt that she had almost used up a lifetime’s quota of sighing.
Young Master Shi was a challenge to serve.
She had thought highly of her acumen in observing human behaviors, however, she had been unable to decipher Young Master’s thoughts and intentions. Her speculations and his actions were too far and wide, their thinking was like heaven and earth.
Whenever Shi Che returned home, she had to be all-hands-on-deck. She was vigilant at all times, put her best foot forward, and all that had made her weary and exhausted.
Sometimes, she did not relish his return. When he was away, she would be alone at home, relaxing in the peace and quiet.
However…if he did not come home, she would be unable to accomplish her mission…hence, she would long for his homecoming.
After Ling Chuxia had tidied up the clothes, she went downstairs and brought up a glass of warm milk.
Shi Che had just emerged from the bathroom when she returned to the bedroom. Clad in a loose bathrobe, he sat by the bed and was drying his hair with a towel.
Ling Chuaxia quickened her pace, put down the tray by the bedside table, and offered gently, “Let me help you, Young Master.”
She reached out her hand habitually, preparing to take over Shi Che’s towel.
To be honest, she was behaving more like a competent nanny to Shi Che, than his wife.
Her responsibility and duty were to take good care of Shi Che in daily life, including trivialities such as drying his hair.
Her actions were natural, habitual, and logical.
However, in this instance, Shi Che did not pass the towel to her. He paused for a while and cast her a glance that sneered.
Ling Chuxia’s hand froze. She could not comprehend the meaning in his look.
Finally, Shi Che spoke.
Perhaps he was under the influence of alcohol, his voice was slightly hoarse, throaty, and enigmatic. However, his tone was icy cold and unpleasing to her. It made her shudder.
