The Elemental Tower - Chapter 51
Chapter 51: The Werewolf King
Badum! Badum!
The heart in its chest started pounding intensely.
Badum! Badum!
The hot, boiling blood was gushing.
Badum! Badum!
The injuries on its back were moving.
Badum! Badum!
The path in front of it was long gone as complex tree branches were blocking its path. The weeds and bushes were filled with life. It would encounter strange-looking snakes and bugs if it were not careful.
However, it had to keep running forward. The injuries on its back was telling it that the enemy that wanted its life was chasing after it.
“Lo! I’ll be waiting for you in hell!”
A sharp cry sounded from the distance. The escapee halted before sprinting forward at an even greater speed.
The rustle kept reverberating in its ears as the Werewolves’ howls crept closer and closer. The same sound came from every direction.
The escapee finally stopped running as it knew that it could not run away from this.
The Werewolves had blocked the paths in every direction. Running away was ineffective.
Hence, it decided to save some of its energy and gave that bastard who dared to betray it a surprise!
The rustling approached and soon, two Werewolves in well-made leather armor appeared in front of the escapee. Furthermore, they were holding onto a sharp metal weapon as they blocked the path at the front.
A sharp cry sounded from afar as a huge number of Werewolves surrounded the area from every direction.
“Kandaro! There’s no place to run!”
The sinister voice sounded from afar as a muscular Werewolf opened its mouth, baring its sharp fangs while its saliva kept dripping down.
Behind this Werewolf was a familiar enemy that the escapee recognized.
“Lo, how dare you betray Sir.”
Kandaro stood as straight as a pole. “If Sir returns and discovers your betrayal, you’ll be punished in a way you can’t even imagine!”
“Oh? What should I do then? Follow your arrangement obediently, be used as bait to delay that sinister squad while you guys leave the place happily?”
Lo scoffed. “We Werewolves’ lives are nothing but weeds while the Beastmen’s lives are gems?”
“Hmpf! Don’t you dare forget who brought civilization to the Werewolves, who brought intelligence to the Werewolves, and even the basics of an ambush to you Werewolves!
Kandaro growled. “Are these not enough for you to delay the Feathered Hawk Knight Squad for a while? All we need is just a few days!”
“That’s enough, Kandaro.” Lo’s tone carried disdain and disgust. “Do you really think I don’t know why you’re so good to us Werewolves? Isn’t it because you needed us to exhaust the human’s energy so that they won’t bother you Beastmen?”
“Other than us Werewolves, aren’t you treating the Murlocs on the shores, the Sethrak in the swamps, the Harpies in the cliffs, and the remaining minority races the same way? You’ve given them something that could increase their strength but only to a certain extent. It’s enough to attract the human’s attention but they aren’t actually that strong… Similarly to us Werewolves, what use are your gifts if we were to leave the forest?”
Kandaro was speechless as this was precisely the Beastmen’s strategy. They gave them something just strong enough to be a threat to humans but they couldn’t truly be independent. They had to rely on the Beastmen’s order to move forward.
However, Kandaro must not show his weak side here. “Think about it. If you were to betray Sir now, how will Sir treat you when he returns? Perhaps you haven’t realized it yet, just what I’ve been doing for the past few days!”
“Oh? What have you done?” Lo mocked as he started grinning. “Are you helping me to snare the Werewolf tribes and turn me into the Werewolf King?”
Lo’s words made Kandaro laugh out loud. “That’s right. You’ll gather the majority of the Werewolf tribes and become the Werewolf King. Then, you’ll surrender to the Beastman Kingdom. However, the first thing you need to do is to obstruct the Feathered Hawk Knight Squad’s pursuit!”
“Is this how you write your script?” Lo did not care upon hearing Kandaro’s words. He was impressed and thankful to the Beastman standing in front of him. “I’m very thankful that you’ve gathered so many Beastmen and wanted to appoint me as the Werewolf King. It’s because of you that I’ve gotten some reputation.”
“However, my dear friend Kandaro, let’s not forget that the Beastmen’s threat will always be greater than us Werewolves. A Beastman General is more important than ten Werewolf Kings.”
“Two days ago when your army was leaving this forest, I told someone to inform the Feathered Hawk Knight Squad and they have already gone after you guys. That Beastmen army of yours will definitely not be able to return to the Beastman Kingdom safely.”
“Is there anything I should be afraid of when the threat is gone?”
“The worst would be that the Feathered Hawk Knight Squad begins clearing up the Werewolf Forest afterward. However the weak, old, crippled, and sick would be the only ones left. We’ll still be the top dogs in Werewolf Forest when they leave!”
Kandaro stared angrily upon hearing Lo’s words. The latter did not expect that the reckless, cruel, and bloodthirsty Werewolf Lo could be this cunning and cold. It was able to turn a dire situation around in an instant!
Furthermore, he was able to render all invisible threats ineffective. Once this bastard rose to the throne, everyone, be it the humans or Beastmen, would certainly see him as a big threat!
However, it could not resist happily revealing its plans and finally got to see the terrified horrified expression that came from the Beastman that once looked down upon it. Lo waved its hand gently as multiple powerful Werewolves charged towards Kandaro, thirsting for blood.
As Kandaro exchanged blows with them, it was beyond astonished. “Rippers! How is this possible!”
The Ripper was one of the Beastmen’s unique Classes. Becoming a Professional Ripper required hundreds of Beastmen to fight to the death in a battle royale. Only those that survived the deathmatch would be known as a Ripper. This was a very important foundation to the Beastman Kingdom.
The Beastmen had never passed on the Ripper’s training module to any race at all!
How did the Werewolves obtain this secret!
However, it no longer had the time to think any further. As a Professional itself, it was a highly ranked being in the Beastman Kingdom. However, its body was held by the Werewolves’ claws and shredded into countless bits of flesh in an instant.
The fog of blood spread everywhere as Lo stood still quietly. It took a deep breath of the air filled with blood particles. “Good. Everyone, please follow the same order and move forward to take cover. We’ll buy some time to make sure the core team is able to fully retreat before the Feathered Hawk Knight Squad returns from killing the Beastman’s army!”
The Werewolves around it gradually spread out as Lo exhaled.
The most crucial catastrophe had come to a pass. Now, it should prepare to meet up with that bunch that killed its brother.
News among the Werewolves was quick in the forest. There was a tower that appeared at the border of the forest recently and they were probably the killers.
“Hmpf, it’s just a Mage Tower. Nobody knows for sure whether the Mage inside has turned Professional yet. It’s best to utterly destroy it before leaving this place.”
Lo had decided its next action as it revealed its sinister smile.
After all, everything should end very quickly, no?
…
